Summary
"It's worse than nothing... It's worse than anything in the world."
The year is 1853, and George Crozier has died. James travels out to keep his friend company after the fact, wanting to support him during what has to be a difficult time for the man. To his surprise, he finds Francis just fine, living out in the countryside as far away from the Admiralty as he can possibly get, and seemingly unwilling to discuss his brother's death. Being out there makes him happy, and he feels his spirit lighten the longer he gets to say out there, alone with only Francis, (and the groundskeeper's Newfoundland dog,) but he's starting to feel that something tugs at his old friend's attention... Something might be wrong. He only wishes Francis would tell him just what.

Summary
By all accounts, Brighton was a pleasant and healthful seaside resort. James’s doctor had recommended he summer there, as the clean sea air and cool saltwater would do wonders for the joints that occasionally pained him still. And in addition to the restorative properties of the sea, the city boasted frequent social opportunities and creature comforts. The monarchy, of course, had had its residence there, but the sale of the Royal Pavilion to the city that very year seemed not to have abated the enthusiasm of many notable persons, as well as their gawkers and hangers-on, for the city in general and the Pavilion in particular.

Summary
It all becomes real when he takes his first steady steps into Edward’s cabin. Stupidly he feels more intimidated than he’d imagined in his fantasies- fantasies which he should already know are implausible at best. But they’re the exact reason he’s here, to put them to rest for as long as he possibly can. And with that in mind, he waits with his eyes demurely averted for Edward to make the first move.
