Summary
Just when Buck thinks he has his feet on steady ground, he starts getting worsening migraines and a host of other concerning symptoms. This time, he’s not afraid to go to his family for help. Getting answers is a different story.
Having documentation of his addiction provides hurdles Buck has never encountered before, and limits treatment options. Buck finds out the hard way that recovery isn’t linear.
Eddie meets him every step of the way, even when unpacking the past few months gets ugly and painful. He wants whatever’s on the other side, no matter how much it scares him.
Or, Buck deals with a mysterious illness that begs him to relapse, and Eddie isn’t making the same mistake a second time.

Summary
Weeks of tip-toeing around the obvious are only fueling the uneasiness that’s taken residence behind Eddie’s ribs. Buck repeats the same phrases over and over, tells everyone he’s fine, he’s always fine, he’s never not been fine. Eddie wants to understand, wants to let himself pass it off as the same old Buck, his stubborn, willful Buck, but the brush-off stings. Buck is not fine. Eddie knows this.

Eddie shakes his head, letting go of the glass and reaching out to tuck the edges of the blanket in around Buck’s hips. Something for him to do. If his hands are busy he doesn’t have to think about how he failed him. He’s here. They both are. That’s what matters.
“You don’t need to thank me,” he says, quietly. “Not for this. Never for this.”

Summary
Eddie ignores Buck’s protests. He finally finds a position that is somewhat comfortable in the armchair and closes his eyes. “Go to sleep, Buck,” he mumbles.
Giving up the fight, Buck huffs. He turns around in the bed and faces his back to Eddie. Eddie can’t help but peek an eye open to watch how Buck’s shoulders move with every uneasy breath he takes. He’s still shaking slightly, despite the mountains of blankets upon him. Eddie’s stare is unwavering, fearing that if he looks away, Buck could disappear.
The room settles into silence, only broken by the muffled sounds of their friends down the hallway and the harshness of Buck writhing in the bed. After what must be only a couple of minutes, Buck speaks again.
“Can you…” he begins, but trails off. “Never mind.”
“Buck, you can ask me for anything. You know that.”
Buck hesitates, but eventually he turns over his shoulder to ask in a faint voice, “Can you hold me?”
OR: Three times Eddie sat by Buck’s bedside, and the one time it was their bed.

Dr. Copeland gives Buck homework: say the thing he's been carrying since Bobby died out loud, to someone whose face he has to watch while he does. There are hotlines. There's a peer-led option through the union. Buck picks the only option that counts.
Or:
The whole truth about New Mexico, a box of feelings Eddie was saving just for Frank, and one more direction for Bobby to point Buck in.

"I can feel that when this whole thing is over I shall be as bland and uninspired as a turnip. You wouldn't bother traveling with a turnip, would you? I'd start wearing drab little outfits and commenting on the weather and you'd leave me by the roadside in disgust. I probably wouldn't even notice at that point, my sense of adventure would be atrophied so atrociously that I'd be all but blind to your face. His body wanted to give up, and his mind was in no condition to fight it, so he had no other choice. He had to accept the one thing he had been fighting for so long; sometimes it’s okay to ask for help, and you don’t have to feel like a burden when the people that love you want to offer it.
