Chapter Text
For Naruto OC Ship Week
Prompt: Secrets
He fucked up.
He knew he did when she stormed off.
Standing there speechless, he blinked where she vanished and then hit his forehead with the palm of his hand. Fuck. Fuck!
Now she was pissed.
“Um, everything okay, Mr. Sukea sir?” Kakashi heard behind him, and he turned to see Naruto take a step forward, hands in his pockets.
Ten minutes earlier, he had found the girl he had a crush on spying on his shadow clone. Kakashi was currently in his Sukea getup, so he knew she wouldn’t recognize him. Having just helped the kids earlier from trying to unmask “himself,” he thought it would be fun to tease his pebbles, the nickname he coined for her a couple years ago. Kakashi had offered to help her with whatever plan she had, but this had been proven a bad idea since she left to chase after his clone after quickly dismissing him.
When he had found her again, she was talking to his genin team. When the disguised Kakashi came up, he noticed she wasn’t too happy to see him. This only made him want to annoy her even more. So he teased her about not letting him in on her scheme. “Well, it seems like there might be a better story in the works. If only someone would let me in on it,” he had said since earlier he had claimed he could help her with Kakashi if it meant he could get a story out of it.
This had opened a can of worms, and Naruto eagerly wanted to join in on her plan with Sakura and Sasuke watching with curious looks—the latter pretending to be disinterested. That had seemed to piss her off even more as she pulled him to the side to reprimand him for opening his mouth, worried that Kakashi would find out something from his team.
Curious, Kakashi had asked, “Why would you be worried if their sensei knows something’s up?”
With a scowl on her face, she had tightened her fists at her sides. “Because it’s none of your business! Now just leave me alone!” she had snapped at him before vanishing on him once again. Shit.
Back in the present, Kakashi smiled at his students and nodded. “Yeah, she just had to leave.”
“Hm, she looked pretty mad to me,” Sakura sung out quietly, twirling a piece of her hair around her finger and giving him the side eye.
Sasuke scoffed and crossed his arms, but he didn’t say anything.
Kakashi sighed and rubbed the back of his neck before laughing nervously. “Don’t worry about it, kids. I’ll talk to her tomorrow.”
That is, if she was willing to.

All right, hopefully today will go better than last night.
He had a clone out there somewhere as his usual self while he walked around as Sukea again.
He had to find his pebbles so he could figure out what she was going to do to him. Also, maybe he should apologize for pissing her off.
He looked around, camera in his hands. Maybe she would be around that dango shop she likes so much. Empty. He took a lap around the village to see if he could catch a glance of her. He had even found his students and asked if they’ve seen her. Nope.
With Kurenai or Anko? No.
Ichiraku Ramen? Guess not.
Training grounds? Not today.
He scowled. He was just thinking what a waste of makeup he used today and about gave up when he saw a familiar figure in the park.
His face brightened. There! There she was.
He started to walk towards her when he heard Iruka’s yelling. Kakashi looked up to see Iruka chasing after his shadow clone. He rose an eyebrow as Iruka barked out, “Kakashi Hatake! I know you can hear me!” He chuckled to himself as his clone rolled his eyes.
Kakashi’s focus went back onto his pebbles, who was watching the ordeal with a worried expression, biting her lip. Then he saw her stand up, wringing her hands together before squaring her shoulders. He grinned as he approached her, her back to him.
“Trying again with your little scheme that you won’t let me in on?” he asked.
She turned to face him, her big eyes looking up at him. Then they narrowed and he couldn’t help but think how cute she looked angry. Her tiny fists were at her sides again. “What are you doing here?”
Kakashi shrugged, picking up his camera now and focusing it on her. “Just trying to find the next big scoop. Would that be you?”
Her scowl deepened.
He grinned ruefully. Click.
He pulled back to look at the picture he had taken. “Got it. Beautiful. One more for safety?” She was about to take a step closer to him when Iruka’s yelling cut through the air.
She turned her head to look at them. He watched her face fall, as if something had happened while she looked over at Iruka and his clone. He quickly flicked his eyes to his clone, but him and Iruka were already walking away.
“You still trying to do something with Hatake?” he asked her. “I can still help y…” She suddenly breezed past him, blinking back some tears that gathered at the corner of her eyes. His eyes widened. He thought he fucked up before? She’s crying now! He quickly caught up to her, gently grabbing her wrist. “Hey. Hey, hey, hey. Whoa, why are you crying?”
His pebbles yanked her hand out of his grasp and threw up her hands exasperatingly. “Because apparently the universe never wants me to confess my feelings to my crush! And I thought I was resolute in my decision, but after today, I give up!” Wiping away her tears, she walked past him again as he stood there frozen.
She what? Did she say what he thought she said? No way. No fucking way.
Kakashi was at her side and stopped her. He couldn’t even wrap his head around what she fucking said. It echoed in his fucking head.
… confess my feelings to my crush!
… to my crush!
My crush!
Crush!
Kakashi looked down at her, blinking. “That’s what this has been about? You … You have feelings for Hatake?”
Was he dreaming? Was this even real? Pebbles, the girl he had been crushing on for the past few years had a crush on him? How was that even possible? She was too good for him. Too good for anyone! He was completely enamored by everything that she did—to her personality, her laugh, her voice, her beauty. How can someone like her like someone like him? Impossible.
She shot him a glare. “It’s none of your fucking business!”
This snapped him out of his stupor, now an incredulous look overtaking his features. “But … But look at you,” he said without thinking.
The look on her face was something he would never forget. The way she looked absolutely crushed and defeated. Her cheeks got red and she bit her lip hard. Her voice shook while she tried to bite out her words, and he knew he fucked up again. “Oh, wow. Gee, thanks, my confidence is skyrocketing now.” She breezed past him, finally getting distance between her and him.
Kakashi realized too late that she took his words the wrong way. Oh. Oh, shit. No!
“No, wait! I didn’t—! That’s not what I—”
She disappeared in a cloud of smoke, and Kakashi slumped his shoulders.
“—meant,” he finished quietly.
Fuck, he thought, rubbing a hand over the lower half of his face.
