OFA Quirk Says That Sharing is Caring

Summary:

Midoriya has finally told everyone in 2-A about OFA, and he's glad for the secret to be in the open. He's especially glad when Todoroki manages to find a little loophole that opens up a lot of opportunities.

Or: Izuku finds out he can just give OFA to people for a period of time with no repercussions

Or: infinite quirk glitch

Notes:

I wrote the majority of this fic like one, two years ago, and its just been sitting in my google docs. So I've polished it up to post! It's set in year two of UA, in an alternate universe where everything goes pretty well after All Might's last fight.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

By the end of the second year of UA, everyone in 2-A knew about the origins of Izuku's power. At the start, he was nervous about what All Might would think of telling a few friends, but surprisingly, All Might pointedly reminded him it was his power now, and the only thing he had to do was be careful. So one day when he and Shouto were all alone on the grassy fields of the school, they talked at length about his power, what getting it meant for him, and what he'd suffered before then.

It had been nerve wracking, coming clean to Shouto, and even though he was certain that Shouto didn't have any qualms with the quirkless, he couldn't help but think his boyfriend would think differently of him in some, small way.

But Shouto made sure to listen intently, and they discussed it for a long while, until the bell rang. At that, Shouto kissed his cheek and told him that he was still the same Izuku he'd always known.

Next was Uraraka, Iida, and Tsuyu. They were all watching a movie together, some old pre-Quirk era animation, and as the end credits rolled, Izuku quietly said, 'hey, can I tell you guys something?'.

The explanation was a bit awkward, and his words were clumsy, but it was worth it. By the end, Izuku and everyone else were crying happy tears, with Iida promising to him that none of them thought any differently of him because of it.

It was easier to tell people after that, coming more casually each time he said it. Shinsou heard about it during lunch break, and after muttering something suspicious under his breath near Jirou, she asked him about it and he told her. Then it was Kirishima, Mina, and Kaminari. Satou, Hagakure and Tokoyami followed. After that, he couldn't remember the order, just because all the anxiety around his quirk had washed away.

He'd finally stopped needing to hide behind closed doors when talking to All Might, and no one needed to be suspicious of his new powers. (After Aizawa figured out after Kamino, he had just about beat up a senior citizen, when he realized what All Might had kept from him).

Nothing changed. They were just the same old Class A they’d always been.

That was, until, a week after their second sports festival. They were having a board game night in the dorms for no special occasion, just to hang out as a class, and as he and Shouto were playing Uno, Shouto asked a question. "So your quirk can replicate the previous holder's quirk, right? Could you give me your quirk, and then if I gave it back, would you get my fire and ice?"

Izuku laughed, at first, then after a moment of thought, "oh wait."

There was no way it'd work right? There were too many hoops to jump through and mountains to climb. What if he never got it back? What if One For All couldn't be handed back to the previous user? Wait. The Nabu island experience, with Kacchan. The holders, the ghosts inside had insisted he'd be the one to keep it. But maybe that wouldn't work if he gave it willingly, with no threats to his survival.

No, actually, that wouldn't be the case, because he'd been completely ready to never have one for all again, while in this hypothetical scenario, he'd only be willing to give it up for a week at most.

But the transfer would hurt Shouto, right? When he'd gotten it, it'd taken so long to stop breaking all of his bones.

...Though he'd only broken his bones because, despite his intense training, he was still a scrawny child compared to his muscles now. That was nothing compared to Shouto’s physique. Also, Recovery Girl could patch him back up, and then they'd know that it wouldn't work, with no lasting harm caused.

But what if the quirk took Shouto's powers after it was transferred back? Nope, that was also extremely unlikely, since it hadn't happened to Kacchan. Also, the vestige's quirks were transferred because of the DNA being passed down, not because it transferred quirks. Both the vestige and the quirk came from the DNA within the quirk, so if the quirk was taken with one for all, wouldn't the previous users have dropped dead when the quirk was transferred?

But, there had to be something preventing that, right? There had to be a reason he had never thought of the idea after having the quirk for two long years.

"Hey, Midoriya?" Shouto peered at his boyfriend, who had been mumbling for several minutes now. "Are you okay?"

The idea Shouto proposed, he needed to look further into it. And if there was no risk, if they actually had a chance to do this? There was so much potential and applications to the idea. But he needed to gather more information first.

“I need to go see All Might,” He said to Shouto, discarding his Uno cards to the ground as he started to run to the dorm’s door.

“But Uno-!” And with that, he was sprinting to All Might’s on-campus room, full cowl at 6%.

After Kamino, and a few close incidents, Yagi had taken up residence at UA. The chance of getting kidnapped was relatively low there, and also lowered his commute time, which was hard on him without a civilian identity.

His apartment was right next to Aizawa’s and Yamada’s shared one for added security. Yamada was one of the strongest heroes on campus, and he’d wake up anyone on campus if he started to yell at an attacker. Aizawa was an insomniac, perfect for if anyone came in the middle of the night.

It also helped that the three heroes had gotten really close after the months they’d been at UA, which had helped Yagi settle in with more grace. Izuku was glad his mentor was able to feel comfortable around other pro heroes.

He knocked as quickly as he could, rocking back and forth on his feet as he waited for Yagi to open the door.

His mentor opened the door tiredly. "My boy, aren't you supposed to be in bed right now?"

Izuku hurriedly explained the idea Shouto had brought up, and then started to go into the drawbacks he couldn’t prove. At some point while he was talking, Yagi led him to the couch, where he gave his mentee a cup of warm hot chocolate. Izuku took one sip before continuing on.

“-and I don’t even know if it’s feasible, but I think we should try!”

Yagi looked down at the ground, contemplating. “You may have to contact the vestiges for these answers, my boy.”

Of course, the vestiges. He started to have dreams with them every once in a while, back in his first year. At the start of his second, he’d been able to intentionally contact them a few times. Now, he could usually appear in the mindscape the night he wanted to, though he still had to wait several days in between dreams before he’d be let into the mindscape again.

Also, communication was an issue. Most of the vestiges were solid enough to talk, but he himself was almost completely immobile. At the moment, he could speak, but it was painfully slow and started to hurt when forced. His hands were frozen to his sides, half covered in the black mist, and he could slightly nod or shake his head when needed.

Still, they were the only ones who’d have answers about this. “ Okay, I’ll tell you what they say if I can contact them tonight.”

With a pat to Izuku’s head, Yagi smiled. “Thanks, young Midoriya. But remember, I’m only here to brainstorm ideas, not to give you permission to do this. It’s your quirk, of course.”

“What is the problem child doing here?” Before Midoriya could reply, Aizawa stepped out of one of the rooms in Yagi’s apartment.

He had his eyes on Midoriya as he stood in the hallway, fully outfitted in All Might themed pyjamas from the 2216 charity event.

A strangled sound came out of Izuku’s mouth. “Um. sir, what are you wearing?”

Aizawa sighed, and then mumbled something that sounded like ‘Yamada stole my cat ones’.

“Why are you lending your pyjamas to teachers in the school?”

Yagi failed at keeping himself from spitting blood. “...And now it's time for bed! All good heroes need their sleep, my boy, goodnight!”

Izuku went straight to the 1A dorms, opened his door, laid in bed and then closed his eyes. He wouldn’t normally go straight to bed like this, he’d either plan out tomorrow or write in his hero journals, but he was really impatient to get answers. Getting into the vestige’s mindscape needed a focused but blank mind, which wasn’t the easiest state to maintain. Starting as he normally did, Izuku started with a few deep breaths, listening to his heartbeat. He focused on getting to the mindscape, as his breathing calmed down. In, out, in, out.

In. Out.

As always, waking up in the mindscape was like hitting the ground after falling upwards. His eyes snapped open with a jolt, immediately looking around to see which vestige would visit him tonight. In front of him, shadows tainted red, blue, and yellow started to form into a silhouette. Nana Shimura, wispy with coloured smoke, stood before him.

“Hello, Ninth.” She offered him a warm smile, “I hope you’ve been well. From the look you have on your face, I assume you’re here to ask a question that one of the past holders can solve.”

He nodded, as fast as the mindscape would allow, and slowly moved his mouth.

"T...trans...ferrr..?"

"Transfer? You want to transfer One For All? You're too young to think about passing it on, are you once again worried of your worthiness towards it? I assure you, all of us think you're perfect for the role."

"Temmm…porr..arrrr..yy."

"Transferring it temporarily? But you can't- wait." She blinked, her mental wires connecting. "I assume you mean you'd transfer it to someone for a week or so, then transfer it back, so you'd be able to gain their power too, but you're worried about the risks surrounding it."

Once again pausing, she pressed her hands into a temple and looked curiously at Izuku.

"Well, I don't know the exact process of what will happen, but I do know that the sentience of this quirk has grown so much that you wouldn't be able to stop us from transferring back to you, since we all acknowledge you as the true holder. I assume you could delay the transfer back for some time, but it will always come back until you find a suitable successor."

Midoriya nodded, processing. This… could actually work. He could, not just theoretically, transfer his power for a limited time, with only benefits for both parties. As his caution and bewilderedness faded, it was replaced with a new feeling: untamed curiosity.

The whole, new, shiny quirk he'd get. How he'd add this to this training regime. Would it also work on mutant quirks? How would the extra power boost affect quirks like Tokoyami, or Shinsou? Would the power take right away, and how long would he be able to have the quirk transferred before he would start to lose One For All?

He woke up with a start in his bed, already awake because of his time in the mindscape. He turned the desk lamp on his desk on, and started to search for a new notebook solely for the new transfer possibilities. Maybe he'd go through each of his classmate's quirks in order of school ID. Or maybe he'd choose the top three with the most potential and jot down everything he could think of.

With a click of the pen, he started to write.

Todoroki Shouto could safely say he loved his boyfriend. He loved his thick green hair and determination, his scattered freckles and quick, sporadic mind. However, he also knew his boyfriend had a habit of ignoring certain necessities, like food and sleep, in exchange for anything he thought was more interesting.

Shouto was sitting on the school grass, doing his morning stretches, when he heard a familiar voice yell "Shou! Remember what you said yesterday?". Izuku's newly installed eyebags were an indicator that it had been one of those nights.

"I asked if you could transfer your quirk to me and back, didn't I?" It was something that he'd been pondering for a while, but only casually. There were many unanswered questions in this universe, so he usually focused on a few at once. His most pressing question at the moment was the original species of principal Nedzu.

Izuku nodded enthusiastically, and Shouto used the opportunity to ruffle his hair. "How much sleep did you get last night, out of curiosity?"

"Well, I went to sleep at nine, but I contacted the vestiges, so it doesn't really count as sleep? And then I woke up at 2 am to write down some notes about the situation."

"And..?"

"And, I, uh, kept writing til the morning." Izuku sheepishly rubbed his neck.

"Go to bed. We have nothing we need to do until after lunch, and you're not getting any studying done like this."

"I promise I will, but just after this one thing!"

Shouto tilted his head, looking at Izuku curiously. “Go ahead.”

“Okay, got it.” With a large breath, Izuku looked Shouto in the eyes, face serious. "Do you want to borrow One For All, and hopefully increase both our quirk potentials?"

Shouto was too surprised to move for a second.

"Wait, was that too informal? When Toshi gave it to me he was really ceremonious about the process. And I don't know if that was the right tone… can I try again?"

"Izuku, my love, you're overthinking this again. Of course I accept, but please go to bed after. I remember you saying it was transferred through DNA."

"Yeah. All Might gave me a piece of his hair, but it could be anything, really."

"Saliva should work, right?"

"Yeah, but what- oh!"

Izuku took Shouto's hands in his, then leaned up to kiss the taller boy. After a bit, Izuku drew away.

"That was probably several seconds longer than needed."

"You can never be too careful," Shouto said with a straight face. "Now sleep."

"Okay, just don't try to punch anything without All Might supervising! Usually the quirk takes several hours to manifest, but with stress or adrenaline it speeds up the process, and I'm sure some other factors play into it…"

"Sleep."

"Right. Right! Bye, love you!" Izuku started working back to the dorms, hopefully to sleep, and not getting distracted by another new brainstorming session.

Shouto went back to where he had been, stretching to get ready for a few exercises. This routine took around 40 minutes, and he didn't know what he'd do after that. Maybe more studying? Although he was pretty confident in all of his subjects. Maybe he'd just scroll through tumblr and update his followers on his newest theories. The general public had to be warned about just how cyborg-like Cementoss might be...

Before he could start drafting up an analysis ,Mina ran up to him, with as much spunk as she usually had. "Hey, Todoroki! Watcha doing right now?"

"Nothing much. I just finished my workout routine and I'm-"

"Great! Wanna come to train with us at gym Gamma?"

"I thought we weren't allowed to train without supervision after the Uraraka incident." The whole gym had vanished into thin air, and they'd found it a few minutes later when it came down from the sky. The less said about that accident, the better.

"No need to worry, dude! Shinsou managed to get Aizawa out to watch us."

It's not like he had much to do today anyway. And Izuku had said the quirk would manifest later, not in just 40 minutes, so he should be fine. Right?

"Sounds fun. Let me get my training outfit." A lot of his classmates had to get special outfits for other resistance to their quirk or to accompany their mutations. Shouto's training uniform had very high temperature and fire resistance, or else he'd end up with almost no clothes on his body, and he didn't want a repeat of the last time villains attacked. They hadn't posed much of a threat, but when you're wearing only cotton pyjamas with a part fire quirk, there are even more pressing concerns.

After a quick trip to his room, he arrived at ground Gamma, not surprised to see the others already practising. Mina had collected a few people to come with her. Shinsou, of course, was using the parkour section to his advantage. As Shouto walked in, he waved after finishing his rotary vault. Uraraka was hanging around the weights area, lifting several of the larger ones with both her muscles and her quirk, and working on moving them slightly high in the air. Kirishima and Tetsu-Tetsu, as always, were boxing to help improve their durability.

As he looked over all the options, he eventually decided to ask the rock metal duo if they’d like to train with him. He’s been slacking on stamina training all month, it was definitely something to prioritise.

He walked up to the two as they continued their training, waiting a little until they noticed him. After the end of the round, Kirishima turned towards him. “Todoroki! How’s it going?”

"Are you two up available to spar with me? I wanted to practise my fire, but everyone else would be at risk of burns."

"So you want me and Tetsutetsu to be your fire punching bags? Hmmm… I'm up for it? Tetsu?"

"Of course, man! It'll help me build up my resistance, so it's a win-win! Wait, good idea!" Tetsutetsu's eyes lit up. "Me and Kiri play this game sometimes, where one of us has to hold on to a weight, while the other person tries to steal it from them. Maybe we can do that, except for a three person version."

"Sounds fun. Better than another sparring session, definitely."

"Awesome, man! But you can't use your ice, okay? It'll end way too fast if you just pin me and Tetsu to the ground."

"Of course. What's the weight, anyways?"

"Right here," Tetsutetsu shoved a weight into his hands, and he almost fell down with it. "It's fifty pounds. Don't drop it!"

"Okay. when do we start?"

Metal rippled over Tetsutetsu's skin, and he made a grab at the weight in Shouto's hand. "Now!"

Shouto's quick reflexes made him jump back immediately, holding the weight in his right side as his left blasted Tetsutetsu back. Before he could assess his surroundings, he saw Kirishima lunge at him, and he ducked down while swiping his foot so Kirishima fell to the ground.

Despite his initial success, both of them recovered quickly for him to celebrate. He managed to duck and roll from a hit from Tetsutetsu, but he almost went over the boundaries of the ring they were in.

He couldn’t twist and dodge for long, as just a minute in, Kirishima managed to grab the weight from him.

It continued for several minutes, fighting back and forth for the wait, no one managing to hold it longer than 2 or so minutes. He was breathing heavily by the time he got the weight from Tetsu for the third time, clutching it and dodging from them as he started to sweat more and more. He was feeling a little hot and dizzy, if this was where his body was at now, he needed to work out more. He could also feel himself heating up, even though he wasn’t consciously activating his quirk. Actually, it felt like only his lungs and mouth were heating up…

As Tetsu made another grab for the weight, Todoroki had no way to maneuver out of the situation, and something in him jerked.

At first, all he could see was flashbang white and pain in his lungs. He couldn’t register what happened until his eyes adjusted to the light:

Fire.

It was spilling out of his mouth, pouring out of his skin from his muscles and bones, lighting his tissues on fire. It was like everything around him was numb compared to the consumption in his chest.

Vaguely, he heard someone call for Aizawa, and he thought that was probably a good idea.

The flames snapped off, extinguishing to blue then to orange then gone. Coughing, Shouto took a few heavy breaths in. Distantly, he could hear Aizawa’s footsteps coming towards him.

But before the teacher could reach him, his vision started to swim, and he pitched forward, gone.

“So.” Aizawa said, pacing around the infirmary, and staring angrily at Shouto and Izuku. “As soon as you figured out One For All could be passed down temporarily, you immediately decided to give it to the first person who was interested. No supervising the quirk, no making sure nothing goes wrong, no telling even one goddamn teacher. What the hell were you thinking?”

“To be fair to Izuku, sir,” Shouto said as Recovery Girl finished checking him over. “He was extremely sleep-deprived.”

Aizawa just glared more, and Izuku looked away guiltily, not meeting anyone’s gaze, especially All Might’s.

After Shouto had collapsed, he’d woken up in the infirmary with Izuku, Yagi, and Aizawa watching him, and Aizawa had waited until he could see that Shouto was awake and fairly okay to yell at them.

It was nice of him to make sure Shouto would be awake to hear him dole out the punishment.

“Both of you are on trash and clean up duty for the dorms, and you’re working separately. Also, in that time, I expect you to write 5000 words on the importance of preparation and safety precautions. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Aizawa-sensei." Izuku and Shouto said in unison, and Izuku whispered a tiny "sorry" at the end.

"Great. I'll leave you two with Yagi then." He slammed the door as much as a teacher was able.

“Izuku,” Yagi said with authority, “I understand that you sometimes get caught up in your ideas, but as Aizawa said, please do tell us before doing these things.”

“I promise, All Might, this will never happen again! I’m really sorry, I know I shouldn’t have even considered the option!” Izuku looked down at his hands, a miserable expression on his face.

“Thank you. With that out of the way, Todoroki, do you feel good enough to head to gym Alpha?”

“...What?” Shouto and Izuku said in unison.

“This is a really important discovery, my boy. Even if you handled it wrongly at first, I’m sure we all want to explore it, test its upper limits. Aizawa’s heading to gym alpha as we speak.”

Shouto nodded slowly, his curiosity taking over.

“I’m ready.”

“We’re going to test your power, dexterity, agility, and strength compared to your last physical, which was around a month ago.” Aizawa said. Shouto was standing near the equipment they had used on the first day of UA. There was the ball throw, handgrip, sidestep, and everything else. Midoriya, Yagi, and Recovery Girl were also here to watch him do the tests. Midoriya had brought his notebook, of course, eager to observe how One For All would affect his boyfriend.

“Whenever you’re ready, Shouto!” He told his favourite trial run.

“Don’t break your arms.” Aizawa reminded him.

Keeping the advice in mind, Shouto made his way over to the grip test. There wasn’t much to it, it was just a muscle test, no precision required.

“Your score is 68.9 kilograms, up from the 67 you got last time.” Aizawa said, looking at the screen in his hand that was fed the data.

His score in the seated toe-touch didn’t change much either. Nor the pushups, or the chinups. He didn’t try to use his quirk for the long distance run, knowing he needed to conserve stamina, so his score didn’t change for that either. As he continued doing the tests, he could feel Izuku growing bored from having no notes to take.

After completing the side steps, with the same score as usual, Shouto walked to the start of the race track for the 100-metre sprint. He hummed to himself as he got into position. Could he use his fire to propel him from the ground like Bakugou? He could definitely get it to work if he practised with it, but would he be able to stay stable if it was his first try?

“Go!” All Might started the race before he could decide, and before he could think it over, he made a snap decision.

He blasted forward with all the power he could from his hands and feet, determined to not disappoint Izuku in his note taking. The propulsion shoved him forward, high in the air and his brain screamed when he realised he was flying through the sky at what felt like mach 5. After the initial panic, It felt almost exciting, moving through the air. Then he remembered he’d start falling eventually.

Oh shit.

Resigning himself to his bad decisions, he tried to blast fire opposite to his velocity so he could slow down. It worked, slightly. At least, until he started to spin.

As his vision started to become streaks of colours, Shouto appreciated Ochako’s resolve more than ever before. He struggled to not throw up until he had a deficit in his stomach.

He could vaguely tell when the ground was below him, as the colours he could see would flip grey instead of blue every split-second cycle. All he needed to do was wait for the right angle, angle his fire, and end up on his feet. He shakily positioned his hands, promising to hold down the fort of his stomach. Okay. Stick the landing, and don’t throw up. Two very, very simple tasks.

Good news, he did not throw up.

He didn’t remember how he hit the ground. Maybe he blacked out for a second. Maybe his mind was shielding him from reliving this moment in his nightmares. All he knew is that at some point he was stationary, albeit collapsed on the ground, and Aizawa was running towards him, horror on his face.

“What the hell is this?” Aizawa pointed at the charred ground of what had once been the track surface. The synthetic turf looked like it had been char broiled by the devil himself, the layers of the track burned away so you could see the cement underneath. Or, you could have, if it hadn’t been blackened by an immense amount of fire power. The flames had managed to remove a good foot down into the ground, and had a comet streak pattern seven meters in length.

“It’s like you want to drive cementos into early retirement.” His disappointed teacher sighed, “Does anything hurt?”

“Not particularly,” Shouto said, almost surprised how true it was. He didn’t have any scrapes from the ground, it seems he managed to use the propulsion from the flames to soften the landing. His uniform, which he had thought to be fire-resistant, had singed around the edges.

“I’m glad the concrete took the brunt of the damages, but please try and conserve your surroundings.”

“Sorry, sensei.”

“At least there’s only one test left, so you can’t break anything else completely .” Aizawa looked down at his device, searching for what the last test Shouto had to do was. “The last test is the-”

All of the colour drained from Aizawa’s face. “Oh no.”

It was the ball throw. As Aizawa hands him the ball with a death glare, Shouto repeats a mantra in his hands.

Don’t break your bones. Don’t break your bones. You need your bones, don’t break them. Don’t break your bones.

He keeps repeating it as he nods to Izuku, who was probably having the same thought pattern. As he draws his arm back to the throwing position, He knows he’s about to let One For All loose for the first time. Not just using his fire power, but the original, All-Might inspired punches that Izuku used to use so much.

Please don’t break your bones. Do not break them.

Feeling energy start to draw to his muscles, he tried to visualise what Izuku had told him at some point. It’s like katsudon in a microwave… or was it an egg in a pot? Or maybe Candied apples melting? Cold soba in the grocery store? The metaphors were getting more distracting than helpful.

There was a crackle of energy as Shouto swung the ball into the air, faster than humanly possible for most. It went at such a speed that he wasn’t even aware he’d finished throwing it until a moment later, when it was already far in the distance. And then when he moved his  wrist, pain immediately shot through his hand.

"Shit." He brought his other hand up instinctively to cradle it. The teachers and Izuku were already running towards him, probably surprised his whole arm wasn’t shattered to a million tiny fragments.

Recovery girl was the first to him, and held up her hand, gesturing to him to allow her to inspect it.

“How much pain and where?”

“It hurts around my wrist, but also where my thumb and hand connect.”

“Did you hear something in your hand break when you threw it?”

“No.”

“Is there any numbness?”

“Also no.”

“Hmm…” Recovery Girl thought for a few seconds, staring at his hand, before going to kiss it. Shouto sighed in relief as the pain cleared completely.

“That was just a sprain, honey. No breaks here.”

“You mean,” Shouto said, slightly in awe at the idea. “That I have no broken bones? I didn’t shatter anything? Not even a pinky bone?”

“All your bones are perfectly intact,”

“Izuku!” Shouto turned towards his boyfriend in excitement. “No broken bones!”

Izuku whooped. “No broken bones!”

They did a bit more testing after that, discovering the ins and outs of Shouto’s new enhancements. He could use both his fire and ice side more easily, and they were more powerful when he used them, with no drawbacks to his precision. He could raise the temperature even higher, without hurting himself. He could change the colour of the flames, which wasn’t useful for fighting, but sure was fun. He also had fire breath, and surprisingly, frost breath at his disposal.

Everyone in class was fascinated at the new changes.

Uraraka gasped and then cheered the first time she saw Shouto breathe fire.

Kirishima and Tetsutetsu expressed their concern for Shouto’s safety, but after making sure he was okay, they demanded a rematch with his new powerset.

Bakugou yelled loudly about it, but he seemed eager to help Shouto test out his newest abilities, and told him “He better not hold back”.

Almost everyone was excited about it, and furthermore, they all wanted to have a go at it for themself. Izuku was constantly mumbling, trying to accurately guess just how each person might manifest the power, how fast it would manifest, what small, minute details would change from person to person. He carried around his notebook everywhere he went, now.

Just like the vestiges said, Shouto only held the power for a week until it transferred back to Izuku. He felt a little tingle in the back of his head, and suddenly, Todoroki was back to his usual quirk.

Monoma approached Izuku one day, distraught.

“I heard about your new quirk upgrade, again . Did you have to get one so similar to my own?”

Izuku stuttered, “Well, I couldn’t really-”

“How am I expected to market my unique abilities with you pulling this kind of stuff? Unlike some, I am not MADE of excess quirks!”

“I’m really sorry, Monoma, but-”

“I’ve been in a state of decay for the last few days, I’ve barely slept or eaten, I don’t know how much longer you expect me to handle this!!”

“You can be the next to have it, if you want?”

Monoma immediately stopped his spiralling, staring straight at Izuku with such an intense gaze that Izuku just knew that he had just done something irreversible.

“Promise?”

“Do you think I could give One For All to two people at once?” Izuku talked at his normal rabbit fast pace, with his mentor nodding along, “It seems unlikely, but given that I considered Shouto’s idea ridiculous at first, it might hold some weight-”

“Hey, Toshi, don’t you care about your kid’s sleep schedule?” Aizawa said, pouring coffee from Yagi’s coffee maker. Which was weird, since he knew Yagi couldn’t actually drink coffee because of his stomach. Had he bought a coffee maker so Aizawa could have some when he came over? That was sweet.

It was a warm, sunny day for his internship

Izuku was currently paired with Ms. Joke, who was helping him work on civilian reassurance, keeping a positive head, and surprisingly, historical discriminatory quirk laws (which she had a minor in).

It had been a relatively good day for them, just looping around the city, patrolling without much crime in site. At least, until some villain with a speed quirk decided to run past them on patrol, making away with what looked like jewellery from the store they’d passed a while ago.

“Out of the way, heroes!” He screamed as he ran past.

Izuku and Ms. Joke immediately stopped the conversation they were in and lept into action, with Izuku ahead because of full cowl.

The villain was too fast for both of them, and Izuku knew he wouldn’t be able to catch up. Instinctively, he threw out his right hand toward the villain, and flames followed, getting the villain before he could escape.

It was a little too powerful though, with the overwhelming force of the fire, pushing the villain forward to where he rolled on the street several times before stopping in a jumble of limbs.

The force and rapid temperature rise also caused a loud bang, and blew a few shop windows and doors open. Izuku quickly checked for any property or civilian damage. Thankfully, he could see nothing that had broken.

Ms. Joke jogged up to him, distracted from arresting the villain.

“Um, kid. How did you do that?”

“Oh this?” Izuku tried to shake his hand to get rid of the flames still attached. It didn’t work. “New quirk development.”

Ms. Joke didn’t look convinced. “I know I accepted the floating, the black whips, and the enhancement without complaint, but kid. Jeez. You need to tell me what your full quirk is one of these days.”

Izuku chuckled as naturally as he could, hoping the laughing hero wouldn’t be able to tell he was faking his laugh. “Yep! One day…”

Notes:

I find the idea of midoriya being super oblivious to all might dating eraser and mic hilarious. Also, I have no idea if Ms. Joke could get a minor in historical discriminatory quirk laws, this isnt a fic im putting research into lol

this hasn't been checked over as heavily as I usually do, so feel free to point out any mistakes!

Please comment if you enjoyed this! Also, if you're someone who reads my other work 'the investigator', I am currently writing for that, I even have the ending planned out! fun fact: there are helicopters and a bodybag involved :D

Thanks for reading!
