Good morning and good day my poor readers so this fic will absolutely not have a single lick of proper Writing im literally doing the most wordvomit you have ever seen and that is because this concept has been in my head for MANY FUCKING MONTHS and I need it OUTTTT.
I have been STUCK on a constant LOOP of thinking about this AU EVERY SINGLE NIGHT and ngl its kinda fun I do enjoy it (twinduo hbhdb sobbing noises) but also I’m Mentally ill probably and I think i will actually explode if I don’t lay out this entire apparent novel series I made
Anyway though buckle in buckle up get a drink or something lord knows I need one, several, but so lets start off this off with…
Backstory jazz/the world building!! (*faint sounds of a trumpet*)
Okay so this entire AU takes place in a sorta medieval fantasy genre world. There is like subtle magic, and gods, and politics (derogatory) and also Vampires. Yeah its a vampire au.
Basically before the story even begins, vampires live really scattered around the realm with their own independent covens, trying to hide from humans which vastly outnumber them. (Making a vampire takes a lot of time and attention and it’s hard to grow your population when humans are literally hunting down your entire kind.)
So the vampires are dwindling. The covens are shrinking, and at some point, the leaders of the remaining covens go “we can’t just die out like this” and they decide to put aside their differences for the greater good and make a Vampire Alliance. They call together all the remaining covens in reach and tell them to come out of hiding, to join together into one proper kingdom, one that might be powerful enough to actually fight off the constant swarms of hunters coming after them.
Thus begins the Vampire Kingdom. (which should probably have like a proper Cool Name but I don’t have the braincells for that.)
this kingdom of course needs like a proper ruler to be a king, right? To lead the people and armies and such. So the covens decide to have this entire battle basically, because their MAIN concern at the moment is having a ruler who is strong enough to keep their entire kind safe. So all the leaders of the coven kinda agree to throw hands, no murder, just fucking beat the shit out of each other until one is left standing, and that person will be crowned for their ability to beat the shit out of people.
So the vampire leaders start swinging, and eventually they get this one guy to be the grand winner. This guy? Is techno’s dad. Techno’s dad is good at fighting, will get frighteningly good at war, and ALSO (this is the most important part) he is now KING.
Which makes Technoblade the literal prince of the vampires. Boo yah.
So Techno’s dad secures the new vampire throne for himself and begins leading the kingdom in a war against the humans, and since now that the vampires are like actually joined together and not scattered in small covens, the first few human armies are literally decimated. The king begins a habit of his vampire kingdom going after human kingdoms for both revenge and a supply of blood to feed their people. He gets really good at war. Like really good. He murks several kingdoms and takes a hefty amount of land and the vampire kingdom grows significantly under his reign, turning into an actual recognized threat rather than some rumor of a big vampire coven.
Now, Techno’s family are like mostly “true-born” vampires, by which I mean Techno and his siblings were born from a vampire mother, they weren’t turned from being humans. Which overall isn’t like a totally important fact right now, it just makes them more instinctual and more powerful.
Also Technoblade’s family consists of this:
- His dad, the king - kinda war crazed, definitely needs a chill pill but still a good dad
- His mother, the queen - she’s cool I guess
- His little sister - she’s a Child
- And his twin - Techno was born a minute after, so his twin is the heir to the throne
Years pretty much pass, the Proper backstory begins with Techno being like, lets say about 16 looking. He’s like decades old in actuality but vampires age a lot slower than humans when they’re still growing up, so he’s basically sixteen in vampire years. Him and his twin.
Now, as princes of the vampire kingdom, they of course are taught appropriately how to care for their people and how to do WAR and how to pay attention in court and how to TEAR OUT A MAN’S THROAT and stuff. The royal family are sweet and domestic but they are also vampires and the king is very morally unhinged, so. Kinda rubs off on the rest of them.
The point here though is that Techno learns to fight from a very young age, and he’s got dark habits. He’s a teenager physically but he could take down a hundred men easily, and he’s got a mind for war strategies and a general enjoyance for violence from his father. He’s not too concerned over his duties though and he’s kinda more of a book nerd at heart, because his twin is meant for the crown and he’s like the spare. (Important point here, he is never made to feel any less important than his twin for not being the heir. His parents adore him so very much and he feels very loved. I just like happy family dynamics man they’ve like murderous vampires yeah but also they’re Fambly)
Now you’re probably wondering at this point “Markus why is the twin just “the twin” isn’t it wilbur why are we forgetting to name our characters also-” im taking your hand in mine with slight sympathy bc this twin isn’t Wilbur this twin is unnamed character who Is NOT sticking around for long.
At some point during this time of Techno’s dad’s reign, a few covens secretly plan to overthrow the king and take the throne for themselves, bc they want their coven and their family to have the power and rule the kingdom.
So then begins the coup.
And it’s reasonable to think, hey. How the fuck does the king die in a coup, isn’t he like the most powerful vampire. Well he is! BUT he also grows trust with this coven over time. They’re some of his closest friends and he trusts them so much that he doesn’t expect it at all when they do a surprise attack on his wife and murder her with an enchanted knife through the heart.
And even more terrible! Techno’s dad may be war crazed and kinda evil, but he Loves his wife. Loves loves her. He sees her die, and he freezes, and that freeze is just enough for the bad vampires to get a chance to kill him.
So now the king and queen are dead. But wait, there’s more.
Techno and his twin get caught in the chaos and are somewhat able to fight off their attackers. However, while the bad vampires are murdered and the twins get away, Techno’s twin is gravely injured in the assassination attempt. And with still being a fledgling and all…they can’t heal as fast as an adult vampire.
This is an important scene. Technoblade carries his bleeding twin down the hall, covered in his blood and the attackers blood, screaming for help and screaming for his father. Eventually he finds good vampires that help and protect him, but by that point, it’s too late, and Techno’s twin dies in his arms.
But wait! There’s more.
At this point Techno is traumatized and asking for his dad. He’s told that there was an attempted coup, and while all the vampires responsible for it have been captured, the entire royal family has been killed in the process. Techno is the only one left alive. His mother was killed in a surprise attack, his father died while faltering for her, his twin died in his arms, and his little sister died alone, killed in her own royal chambers.
(“Wow that got dark”) YEAH techno has Issues in this fic ok he has flavor
Anyhow so Techno is the last royal family member surviving, so the throne automatically goes to him. He’s the new king. Thing is, he’s pretty young for a vampire, pretty traumatized from losing his whole family and inner coven in one swoop, so the people of the castle are hesitant to crown him. They give it some time, but the war outside is still going, the people still need their blood supply, and humans are very persistent in trying to keep killing them. They need a king, and Techno knows it.
So Technoblade takes the crown and the throne in a sudden bout of anger, and he becomes an even more lethal king than his father before. He kills off the entire coven who planned the coup, every single man who had the slightest part, then he steers his armies into even more war, taking many kingdoms over the span of a few decades. He gets a reputation for being a ruthless warrior who fights with his own men on the battlefield, who rules the kingdom with an iron fist, who is fiercely protective of his people.
He’s an angry boy, is the point. Technoblade basically has a villain arc. He is pretty much a villain.
Now, at some point during his conquest fueled by anger and intense grief, a prince in a far off kingdom is born. THIS is where Wilbur comes in.
This is also where the story finally starts.
ARC ONE: yoinking the brother
Wilbur is a human prince of a peaceful kingdom ruled by Phil and Kristin. He’s the heir to the throne and he also has a little brother named Tommy. (crimeboys sobs sobs) The entire family is loved dearly by the people. Phil is a stern but good king, Kristin is a kind and clever queen, Tommy is a hyperactive child and Wilbur is a young adult who’s leaning more and more into his responsibilities.
He’s like. 19 years old. He likes music and knowledge and admires Phil for his ability to rule. He is also however known to be kinda naive. Wilbur is a well-rounded person but he’s also Very stubborn on the idea of peace. Think l’manburg Wilbur with being a pacifist and using his words over violence. Yeah that’s this Wilbur. He’s very optimistic and not hurt by the world yet.
Yet.
Moving on, Technoblade at this point has grown to be Wilbur’s age too, in vampire years. He’s a young adult and he’s also Still declaring war against human kingdoms and taking them for blood. The vampire kingdom is growing and getting very dangerous and it is at this point that they finally come for Wilbur’s kingdom.
Thing is, Phil and Kristin knew this was a possibility. They heard about the rumors and they took them seriously, so they’ve been preparing for the inevitable with war coming to them and armies of vampires coming to tear their walls down. As the vampires come towards their lands and the kingdom prepares for Massive War, Wilbur gets upset over the kneejerk decision to choose violence. He doesn’t want his kingdom to be thrown into bloody war, and he doesn’t want Tommy to grow up in a time of fighting and danger.
He thinks that surely even if vampires are “monsters”, they have to have some reason in their heads and there’s a peaceful solution to this. He is stupid okay. He’s a very optimistic stupid boy and he wants to try bargaining with the vampire king.
Obviously Phil is like “no way” and Kristin is like “double no way” and they insist for war. Wilbur is convinced that all they need is a chance to talk with the king to smooth their troubles out, but it’s just not happening under the king and queen’s watch.
So as the vampire armies set up camp outside their kingdom, Wilbur goes “fine I’ll do it myself” and he manages to sneak out and get ONTO vampire territory. At this point it should be expected for him to just fucking Die but Wilbur is a prince, yknow, (with dramatic flair) so he goes in there and pulls his dramatic hood down and is like “I am the prince of this kingdom you plan to attack, I ask for an audience with your king.”
The vampires are like my god this boy is insane and also dumb he just waltzed in here??? But sure you wanna see our king? :) go ahead >:)
(They take Wilbur to Techno assuming that at best he’ll be a very useful ransom to get the kingdom walls open and at worst he’ll just be killed off and the return of his body to his people will be used to begin the usual fighting against human armies)
Finally, twinduo meet. Wilbur is put in front of Technoblade, who is not at all taking Wilbur seriously. Wilbur has his hood back up at this point and is kinda hiding in it because hey this seemed like a good idea but now he’s surrounded by vampires and this king looks ANGRY okay it’s scary
He’s nothing if not stubborn though so Wilbur jumps into his bargaining plan and begins pleading to Techno for an agreement of sorts, to spare his people and to stop the fighting. He offers like a trade of his kingdoms blood (without death) every year to feed the vampire population, he offers for them to form alliance with the first human kingdom ever.
He’s very earnest about this like he gets really worked up about it, there’s supposed to be banger lines like “You can’t fight humanity forever, what will you do when we are all dead? How will you feed your people then?” He’s got an idea of coexistence in mind with peace and prosperity, but that’s way too hopeful and Techno is a little too evil for that.
Now, Techno does give a response, pretty much dismisses Wilbur and his offers for peace, because he just wants to kill another kingdom and get to the battle. But Wilbur pulls his hood, showing his face, and now, here is where the Grand Dilemma starts. This is where it gets good. This is where Techno starts having Feelings.
Through a sheer fucking coincidence, (or maybe fate wink wonk) Wilbur was born with the same face as Techno. The same nose, same eyes (except they’re brown rather than red), same lips, he literally looks like his twin.
And as we know from the backstory. Techno has some Trauma around his twin.
So he sees Wilbur, sees this spitting image of his own face as if his brother somehow survived and also turned human somehow, and he’s like “Oh shit I need to not let him go”
So he offers this; he will not attack Wilbur’s kingdom, he will keep his armies where they are, on the condition that Wilbur goes with him. Wilbur thinks this is like a powermove to intimidate him so he’s like “fine bitch guess I’m a hostage now” and Technoblade internally is like “I’m feeling feelings other than anger for the first time in several decades i think I’m having a stroke”
Wilbur gets taken into vampire custody with VERY stern orders from Techno to absolutely not let him out of sight or anywhere off of their territory. A letter gets sent to Wil’s kingdom that they have the prince, and that he was so persuasive with his bargaining that they’re going to spare this kingdom, take a pause, and head back home. With Wilbur.
(This is like so big bc One. the vampires have been on a nonstop conquering war for like YEARS and wilbur is the man who manages to make them take a little break and also Wilbur is getting TAKEN by vampires and Phil and Kristin can’t do anything about it but pray he’ll be safe and beg for mercy to the king.
Also angst: Tommy doesn’t understand why his brother isn’t home. He doesn’t understand why he can’t just come back. It’s going to be a while until Wil comes back, and when he does, Tommy will be old enough to understand.
Also more angst: when Phil and Kristin get the letter, Phil collapses to the ground after reading it. He thinks Wilbur is a goner but Kristin is stubborn enough for the two of them to have some semblance of hope)
The vampires pretty much pack up, ready to head on back home to the vampire kingdom, and then comes the moment of Techno confronting Wilbur and telling him Why exactly he’s been taken as a hostage.
Wilbur is like ah this is a battle strategy, you want to use me against my father, you evil man, and Techno is like well that WAS the plan but here’s the new plan; you’re my brother now.
(Wilbur: WHAT .)
Technoblade then goes on a rant over his little journey of murdering several kingdoms and wanting to have humanity burn bc of his grief of losing his coven, and then he asks Wil, after making a GREAT first impression, “don’t you notice anything similar between us?”
And of course Wil is like ??? how am I anything like you, and Techno is like you literally Look just like me you stupid skrunkle and Wilbur is like. Oh God. Oh No. That means something and it’s not good.
Technoblade goes on to explain how he is convinced this is a matter of fate, and that Wilbur was sent by the gods as a sort of gift for all the suffering he’s had to go through. “The gods have reunited us again, brother” pretty much. He’s saying this like it’s a good thing and Wilbur is like “what the fucking fuck”
Wilbur INSISTS he’s not Techno’s brother and he just wants to go home but Technoblade is totally not budging over this, Wilbur is his reborn twin and that’s that, congrats Wil you’re adopted, Techno would literally rather burn the world than let you go.
(he lost his brother once, he’s not losing him again.)
They have a little argument??? Sorta, but basically Technoblade explains that Wil is to be taken into his coven, to secure their bond as family, and Wilbur has a freak out moment bc he does NOT want to be turned into a vampire he wants to stay human, and Techno sees him being terrified and backs off like “ok we’ll circle back to this at a better time” but now Wilbur just has that problem sitting in the back of his head so that’s fun
Now begins the trek of going back to the main vampire kingdom. With Wilbur in tow. Nothing much happens in the months of travel, honestly this is mostly timeskips but there IS some slight character development.
You see during the travel Wilbur makes several attempts to escape, all unsuccessful, and he makes several attempts to convince Techno that he is Not his brother and that he’s just being blinded by past grief. At some point though, Technoblade gets sorta intense about how he’s not giving Wilbur back and Wil realizes he needs to play along because that’s a much better idea than going “YOUR FAMILY IS DEAD AND YOU’RE DELUSIONAL” to the unhinged vampire king.
By the time twinduo gets to the vampire kingdom, Wilbur’s sorta settled with the fact he can’t yet leave and he’s decided to try playing the role of being this “reborn twin brother” so he can win Techno’s favor and trust and maybe eventually figure out a way to either escape or kill the man.
Thing is, Wilbur’s arrival to the kingdom is kinda mixed. The common people are happy about it, they welcome Wilbur with open arms because his presence is a gift from the gods and it means their king will finally find some sort of joy rather than be wrapped up in constant war (the people care for their ruler ok they knew Techno was having a emo arc but they couldn’t really do anything to stop it) however the Nobles, some of the people in the castle and stuff, they don’t really like Wilbur, nor trust him. They accept the fact he’s named as the reborn prince, and he’s apparently from the gods, but he’s still Human, and he’s NOT Techno’s actual twin from before.
Of course no one says this out loud though because Techno is very much still in his “i’m going to shank literally anyone who makes Wil upset” phase and Wilbur is just nodding and smiling and like “please not approach me with harmful intent”
So now twinduo are home. They’re in the castle, they settle in. Technoblade readjusts to ruling while within the kingdom, and Wilbur adjusts to being in a castle filled with vampires who don’t entirely trust him and are always kinda mean. However, the servants and soldiers of the castle are kind to Wilbur, bc they’re a part of the common people, and they just want the best for Techno and they also truly believe Wilbur is their prince from before being returned to them.
There’s some scattered scenes here I have with Wilbur coming into the kingdom, im just gonna drop them in in rapid fire
- The cheering of the crowds when they ride in makes Wilbur think of his people, and for a moment he tries to wave at them and respond kindly, but then he sees all the red eyes staring at him and he ignores the people with a heavy feeling in his throat
- There is a royal portrait hung up of Technoblade somewhere on the castle walls. Wilbur finds it and stares up at it and has a moment of “oh we really do look the same” while also having a fear of one day also having pointed ears and red eyes like him. He wants to stay human but he’s not so sure that’s going to happen. He’s scared of the future and he wants out.
- Niki is a servant who becomes good friends with Wilbur. Most of the servants are friendly but distant bc of Techno’s overprotective habits but Niki is fearless so he’s like “hello your highness I think you need a friend to lean on” and Wilbur, who is very stressed is like “YES I DO ACTUALLY” (it’s a bit of a learning curve for Wil to get used to being friends with a vampire, but he’s in such desperate need for someone to trust that Niki wins him over with like. Cake.)
- Technoblade brings Wilbur in front of his court and declares him as the reborn prince of the vampire kingdom, his brother, and Wilbur looks at the entire crowd of vampires and all he can think about is how much he wants to go home
Wilbur isn’t really vibing with being in the castle and it’s kinda obvious. He wants to give his effort in that plan about trying to be Techno’s Brother, the Prince, but he’s just really scared overall and wants to stay in his room all the time. Techno, not quite knowing how to brother, indulges Wilbur and lets him do whatever he wants so Wilbur avoids everyone and pretty much hides away all the time. Niki is like his only ‘human’ interaction for like two weeks
At some point religion kinda gets brought into this. (“Markus what” I MEAN LIKE PRAYING TO MAGICAL MEDIEVAL GODS AND STUFF) Niki sees Wilbur having a whole depression arc and she suggests for Wilbur to try going to the sacred temples or whatever and to pray to the gods for peace of mind and Wil is like yknow what yeah sure that’s the only thing that’s familiar to me, thanks friend
So he goes. To wherever vampires pray, and when he goes in, he ignores everyone again and just kinda prays for his family, wishing for his parents to not worry too much, wishing for Tommy to be growing up well and to be happy. (it’s been a few months since he’s left home by now.) He’s so wrapped up in thinking about his family he doesn’t even notice the fact the temple has become empty and he’s got new company.
Technoblade heard about the fact Wilbur left his room for once and he immediately zoomed over to be with him. They have like. A moment, bc Techno confesses he stopped praying to the gods when his family died and Wilbur is like if you sit with me I could teach you what you forgot.
So they’re kneeling there, in this quiet fancy room dedicated to magic gods of this world, and Techno asks Wilbur what he was praying for. Wilbur decides to be honest and tells Techno he’s worried for his family. Techno tries to be reassuring and is like they’re fine, and you’re fine, and I’m also fine because you’re here. With me.
Technoblade kinda gets vulnerable here. He tells wilbur that he doesn’t really know what to pray for because the gods have given plenty with just returning his brother to him. And Wilbur…realizes then,
Techno honestly cares for him. Like honestly, deeply cares about him. Maybe he’s kinda delusional and maybe this is just a grief thing but Technoblade truly believes Wilbur is his brother returned and he is trying his hardest to treat Wilbur as such. Wilbur has a moment of “im at least safe around him because he won’t do a thing to me” and he gives Techno like a smidge of brotherly love. Just a little bit. Techno takes it and hoards that little brotherly moment like a bloodthirsty dragon he’s like “I HAVE MY TWIN AGAIN THIS IS SO GOOD” but externally he’s just kinda sorta smiling a little while praying at the altar next to Wil.
Wilbur also realizes then that since Techno cares this much about him, he’s also technically giving Wilbur power. Wilbur has influence with the king, and technically has influence as himself, being named as the reborn prince and all.
He goes back into his room and has a character arc of like “I’m taking advantage of this and I’m going to carve a spot for myself so that I’ll get enough power to send myself back home without a single complaint from anyone” He’s taking advantage of the situation here. He’s going to manipulate mansplain manslaughter
So a bit of time passes. There comes a party. Think like a royal ball. I’m not sure what the occasion would even be, we just need a party for plot reasons. Technoblade and All the nobles are attending and Wilbur is assumed to stay in his room for the night but instead he’s like “hey niki help me out here I’m going to a Party and I need All the dramatic flair”
This party is going. It’s kinda lack luster ngl there’s music and rich people and people drinking blood from their fancy cups but it’s overall a quiet party bc Technoblade isn’t a very Lively party maker. He’s been emotionally stuck in rage for like decades in his defense. He’s now somewhat content but out of practice for basic social events so the party mood is meh.
In comes Wilbur through the doors, dramatic entrance and everything, some dude announcing his presence like “HERE IS THE PRINCE!!!” He’s dressed very fancily as a proper prince and he’s wearing a crown . (this is a big thing bc for the entire time he’s been in the vampire castle, he wouldn’t wear the crown Techno gave him when he was named as Techno’s reborn brother. On top of that, he also wouldn’t let himself be dressed in kingdom colors bc he was being stubborn and didn’t want to accept the role) but now he’s leaned ENTIRELY into the role of this “reborn prince twin” and the nobles are like NOT really happy with this.
Technoblade is absolutely floored at his appearance though and Wilbur comes up to his throne and takes his spot next to him and Techno is like “hm i appreciate your presence” but internally he’s like “this is the best fucking day of my life I have my brother i have MY BROTHER”
(i need u to all understand Techno is so happy to have Wilbur as his twin. He’s like a damn kid all over again he’s like experiencing joy for the first time in years and he’s smiling for the first time in years and all his people are like “oh my god this is amazing our king is happy” and Techno is just so so glad to have his Family back. The entire time his basic internal monologue around Wilbur is always “this is what I was missing this is what I needed” bc lets face it a vampire king Not having the support of a inner coven kinda fucks up a dude.)
Wilbur’s come to this party with the intention of winning over Techno’s favor. He’s succeeding very well. He also however came to the party for the sake of just enjoying a party. He wants a bit of normalcy.
He talks with Techno for a bit, making light conversation (Techno is so internally happy at the fact Wilbur is just Talking to him he’s like “I am making progress with my brother hehe”) and at one point he’s like “why isn’t anyone dancing we have music where is the dancing”
You see no one’s been dancing at the royal parties for a WHILE because before it was tradition for the king to start off the dance with his wife, or for the prince to start it off with his mother, or just any of the royal family rly, that’s the thing, it was the royal family who started dancing and then the people would join in.
But now there’s no royal family, Techno was on his emo arc, dancing just stopped.
But now Wilbur wants a dance. He wants a little bit of fun, so he leaves Techno’s side, goes and finds Niki, and asks her to dance with him. Niki is like :O bc she definitely knows the weight behind doing that but she agrees bc Wilbur is like PLSSSSS and this is the first time he’s not being sad and scared and you have to indulge the skrunkle yknow
So Wilbur begins a dance with Niki. he calls for the music to play a song he knows from home, and he starts dancing with Niki in the middle of the room. All the vampires around them are like Wide eyed and staring but Wilbur is doing what he does best and IGNORING that and he just keeps dancing with Niki while pretending that he’s actually sharing a dance with Kristin back at a party at home.
At some point during this dance, one of the nobles are like “hey yknow this is the first time the prince is outside I need to make a move to become an acquaintance and gain favor with the prince” and so they offer Wilbur a dance. And Wilbur is like uhh yeah sure I guess and he agrees but on the condition someone come replace his spot with Niki.
Now there’s four people dancing to a song from Wilbur’s kingdom. Then comes another, asking Wilbur for a dance as soon as the song ends, and Wilbur is like okay!! I am trying to be the prince here and back home I would accept any dance from my people so I’m going to treat these vampires like my people and gladly keep accepting dance offers while awkwardly having conversation
He keeps doing this. People keep swapping out and keep trying to dance with him and at some point the music speeds up and Wilbur’s having fun but also he’s stressed and tired. He’s dancing and dancing and more people are dancing with him and then!! Dancing stops. Everyone stops. Another person comes to offer him a dance and Wilbur turns and-
It’s Technoblade.
Everyone is like “OH BOY!!!” bc their king is actually gonna dance again like how he was when he was younger and happier and Wilbur is like “oh boy i did not expect him to come over here I didn’t think I’d get this far but alright!!” and he accepts Techno’s offer and they begin to play another fast song.
Wilbur gets caught up in the rush of it, and by this point it’s only him and Techno dancing, bc everyone moved off to watch bc they wanna see Techno dance with his brother again, just like the old times. So they’re dancing and spinning around and Wilbur’s stumbling and badly dancing by now bc he’s tired, but he’s also laughing and kinda enjoying it bc he just really likes dancing and this is the first good moment he’s had in a while. And Techno is laughing with him and Niki is proud and it’s just a warm moment okay they’re two brothers having a dance and all the people are watching with admiration (and hate, for some. oohohoo)
The song ends, Wilbur is exhausted bc he’s the only human here and he doesn’t have inhuman stamina yknow and so Technoblade lets Wilbur sit down and rest and the people begin dancing again on their own, enjoying the music. Wil gets food and water, he tells Techno he’s had fun and he goes off to his room to pass out and sleep.
(Technoblade watches him leave like “i was doing so good at being brother there. An A plus in being brother, for sure”)
That night is like the start of Wilbur cranking up the brother act, so now Wilbur leaves his room and goes around the castle trying to fit into this role of being Techno’s brother and the prince of the vampire kingdom. He gets to explore and he attends court with eyes on him a lot and he wears the crown Techno gave him often.
As he’s doing this, some of the nobles are getting pretty unhappy. They don’t believe Wilbur is valid as Techno’s brother and see him as an intruder just trying to use Techno’s grief as a way to secure power. (which. Okay they aren’t ENTIRELY wrong, honestly)
This tension kinda grows for a while and it comes to blow up when Wilbur tries to attend a meeting with Techno’s advisors and such, to talk about war plans or something i dunno it’s important tho and usually reserved only for important people. Wilbur goes in like “im the prince I’m meant to be here” and the vampires are like that’s it intervention time
They go full mean girls mode at Wilbur and tell him to his face that he is not worthy of his crown and he is not Techno’s actual brother. They point out the fact he’s human they say he’s weak, all the hurtful things yknow. Then they also insult his family and where he came from and Wilbur just runs out, giving up on the meeting. By the time Techno arrives, Wilbur’s gone and the mean vampires are like ah your majesty. Nothing happened here haha
Wilbur goes to have a sad moment and prays alone in the temple again for his family but then he goes from sad to MAD!! He begins to get upset bc of course he has a right to be in that meeting, he is the prince here, and he is seen as Techno’s brother (or at least he’s acting the part, and he needs to be taken seriously) this is his spot he is meant to be at Techno’s side and he’s angry at the fact he let himself get intimidated and chased off
(this is also the slight start of Wilbur getting in too deep on “playing the part” as Techno’s brother, he wants to be taken seriously but he’s also like “this is My crown, my spot, and they WILL see it as such”)
So he goes to attend a meeting again. The same people try to shoo him off and he stands his ground and takes his seat. When Techno comes, his advisors suggest for him to send Wilbur off but he’s like “Wil do u want to be here” “Yup” “welp guess he’s staying”
Wilbur keeps doing things like this, he keeps attending meetings and speaking up during them he begins attending court while standing beside Techno’s throne he begins to sorta fit in place yknow, and Techno is proud of him he’s really thinking Wilbur’s settling in now
And then comes the Moment where one of the nobles can’t take it and they speak up during court, telling Technoblade that Wilbur maybe shouldn’t be given such a position. Technoblade is just like “oh you’re insulting him? You’re insulting my twin brother, who I hold very dearly, and who I think is perfect right where he is? Death.”
He doesn’t actually kill the guy but this is where the dark tendencies come trickling back in and Techno has the guy’s tongue cut out right there and then. And Wilbur watches like “oh god okay” being Reminded exactly of the sort of role he’s playing here. He’s the brother to a vampire. A very experienced in war violent tendecies emotionally stunted vampire. It’s a scary spot but he’s like “I’m stickin with it”
Overall tho Wilbur takes this experience and is like “to be prince of the vampires, one must be violent to stand ground. Ok. I’m a scary vampire prince now.” and he begins developing some slightly dark thoughts towards the nobles that don’t accept him.
He doesn’t like how they keep giving him dirty looks and whispering around him so one night he decides to test the waters of what he can get Techno to do and he makes up an excuse to Techno about how he’s bothered by them. The next day nobles are just Gone and Wilbur is like “woah. I just basically killed them….Should I be guilty?”
He’s having a sorta corruption arc and truly realizing again that he’s got a lot of sway over techno but also another party time woo lets go!!
(also I should say that at this point, over a year have passed, Wilbur is like very settled into the castle, playing his role as prince but still kinda keeping a distance with Techno and the nobles are just kinda bitter bc he’s still Human and he’s an outsider)
So there’s another party. It’s more lively, Wilbur is there right from the start, everyone’s having a good time. Wilbur goes to start up the dancing again, and as he does, he begins dancing with a noble who has a conversation with him about how he’s not worthy for his crown, bc he’s human. It’s the same bullshit, but then this noble goes on to say while Wilbur is human, there’s rumors that soon he’ll probably soon be turned into a vampire, and then after that they will give Wilbur their full respect and he’ll have nothing to worry about.
This is like a good attempt to scare Wil and it works so good bc Wilbur doesn’t want to be turned at ALL and he gets panicked during the dance. But then that anger turns into like a sudden anger, and he’s really angry at the fact this noble is trying to scare him with this so he stops the dancing and he steps away in a way that catches Attention. The noble tries to pull him back to not piss off Technoblade but Wilbur is like in full revenge mode now and he wants this guy Gone so he yells at him and makes a Scene.
Banger line idea: “Lay another hand on me and I’ll have it severed from your wrist .” Wilbur is getting more violent here ahhh you see, you see? He stomps away from dancing to go join Techno and Techno sees all of this and sends guards to go grab the noble (he’s just dead he gets killed off screen)
Wilbur comes to sit by Techno and Techno tries to comfort him but Wil won’t really say what’s upset him so he just gives Wil his food and wine and lets the party keep going.
Sorta time skip here, over the span of like a month Wilbur starts to retreat again into hiding in his room and avoiding Techno bc he’s worried that Technoblade is planning to turn him into a vampire soon. Techno of course notices this and corners and confronts him, to which Wilbur then confesses how he doesn’t want to be a vampire. He spins this into a “i don’t want to be a vampire YET” though, to keep the illusion that he’s like accepting being Techno’s brother, and Techno is like “ok ok it’s ok we can wait I’ll wait”
So Wilbur bought time, got Techno a bit closer, but time is ticking and he needs a way out soon. He tries to figure out escape attempts but he also keeps getting distracted and carried away with “playing the part” of the prince and Techno’s brother
Eventually Wilbur manages to convince Techno to be let him be out of the castle, to go see the people or whatever. He’s gotta go be a prince!!! Let’s go let me be a prince!! ha ha I totally wont try to make a run for it
Technoblade goes with him and they have a little brotherly adventure to go see the people, all of which are so warm to Wilbur, a vast difference from the atmosphere in the castle. They regard Wil as their prince, even if he’s still human, and he’s so swarmed by the love that he truly treats them like his people and gets caught up in being Their prince.
While they’re out in the kingdom they come across a memorial sorta thing by a church area and Wilbur gets drawn to it out of curiosity. Techno is like “hm don’t like this” and there’s a reason for that its bc this memorial is made in honor of his little sister, who was killed in the coup so many years ago.
Techno and Wil have a private not so private moment (all the people are still kinda watching from a distance) and Technoblade explains to Wilbur like “it’s for our little sister. She died scared and alone.” and Wilbur gets his heartstrings tugged here bc he’s thinking about Tommy and he’s like I can’t imagine losing Tommy, let alone my whole family.
(Also Wilbur didn’t really know the entire circumstances of Techno’s family dying like he knew they were dead but he glossed over that in the start bc he was kinda distracted with the fact he was being named the vampire king’s brother and he was getting yoinked yknow)
So Wilbur shares some sympathy with Techno by the memorial and flowers for “their” little sister, and he holds Techno’s hand for a minute too and all the people see this this is in full view of the civilians so Wilbur just accidently fucked himself over and played even HARDER into the brotherly role
And on top of that he’s so distracted by Techno’s little moment of vulnerability that he FORGETS TO MAKE AN ESCAPE ATTEMPT. He gets back to the castle like “FUCK.” and then begins having a crisis about how he’s getting a littleeee too far into this and he’s getting too close to Techno here when it’s supposed to all be an act
More bonding moments happen over the course of some weeks here they are in rapid fire
- Techno wrangles Wilbur into a training session to get him to work with a sword. Wilbur takes this as a chance and actively tries to murder Techno but Techno is like “haha good swing this is so fun such brotherly bonding we’re having”
- Wilbur confronts the nobles again on his own and tells him something along the lines of “respect me or I will tell my brother of your behavior” and when he walks away he’s like “FUCK I DIDN’T MEAN TO SAY MY BROTHER” (he hasn’t been calling Techno brother for this whole time he’s been kinda dancing around the word bc that’s a step tooo far for him)
- Wilbur starts getting little gifts from Techno like earrings and bracelets and he wears them with dread but he’s also like “aw this is pretty” bc lets face it the boy is a prince he likes shiny stuff just in general (and Techno likes giving him fancy stuff bc vampire instincts)
- Wilbur has dreams about the coup and Technoblade carrying him through a hall while he’s bleeding out and this could either be seen as foreshadowing or as an implication that Wilbur is actually a reincarnation of Techno’s twin. Honestly could be either, I can’t ever decide but i like the funky hidden meanings
So Wilbur is starting to fall a little too deep into this whole “act like the vampire’s brother, get power” thing, yeah? And he’s sorta quietly panicking about it.
Another party time!! More dancing more small talk but it’s all kinda filler build up for the bigger scene.
(There is however a bit where Wilbur sees Techno drinking blood and he’s like “how does that taste” and Techno offers him a sip and Wilbur being the stupid skrunkle is like “yeah I’ll take a teeny sip” and then he immediately regrets it and is like BLARGH i’m sticking to WINE” it’s a funny little moment)
So the party is going well, Wilbur eats and drinks, wondering when he stopped trying so hard to get home and got so wrapped up in just securing his place here, and as he thinks, he begins coughing.
And coughing.
And choking.
Technoblade gets worried by now so he stands up from his throne to try and help Wil, and Wilbur spits out blood, which makes everyone come to a pause. There’s like a split second of silence, with Wilbur taking a single deep breath in, then he chokes blood again, and there is panic.
Techno calls for medic and demands for everyone involved in making Wilbur’s food to be apprehended and as he supports Wilbur, Wil keeps getting worse and falls to the ground. Technoblade is trying really hard to be a good leader here he’s trying to order his men and get the party to stay where they are but Wilbur starts trying to say Techno’s name out of panic and he clings to Techno and Techno gets sent right back into his trauma with his twin.
So in his fear, he just picks up Wilbur and starts running to meet the medic faster. He leaves behind the party and the guards and runs through the hall again, just like when he was a kid, with his brother dying in his arms, himself screaming for help.
(He can’t lose his brother again. He can’t lose him again.)
Techno makes it to the medic and they start to use potions and medicines on him, forcing it down Wil’s throat while Wilbur is still throwing up blood. Technoblade watches from the corner of the room, and he’s just frozen with horror as Wilbur keeps screaming and choking on healing potions. Eventually he gets healed, he settles and sleeps and the situation calms down but Techno is still kinda Off and Quiet from the whole experience.
He sits at Wilbur’s side and watches him sleep and part of the reason he’s so caught off is that he’s never felt so scared like that in a WHILE. He’s the king, he’s feared and powerful and all that so there’s no reason for HIM to be scared, but Wilbur almost got killed, Wil was vulnerable and weak and got poisoned, and he couldn’t do anything about it and it SCARES him. It scares him that he’s so scared.
He then becomes dead set on not losing Wilbur bc he is Not letting his brother die on him again. There’s some time skips in Wilbur’s pov now, he keeps waking up and falling back to sleep.
He wakes up, there’s doctors telling him to drink this and drink that and Techno’s holding his hand as he passes out again.
He wakes up, doctors are checking him over once more, Techno’s not there but Niki is and she brings him soft food. He sleeps again.
He wakes up, sorta, and he asks for Techno, only to be told the king is busy preparing for something. He sleeps again, wakes up to Techno at his side, and then he sleeps once more.
He wakes up to Niki bringing him food, and Niki has a sorta weird conversation with him. She’s like telling him about frail humans are and how he could’ve died so easily to the poison and how it’s just not convenient for him to be so. Mortal. And Wil is like yeah but it’s just how I am and Niki is like yeah yeah. I was just worried. (lie she’s trying to WARN HIM)
He sleeps. He wakes up, and he’s not in the room he was in before. He’s in a pitch black room, he can’t see a thing, and he’s also smack center in a vampire nest.
Ya see the entire time he was conking out and healing up, Technoblade went after those responsible for the poison, then he immediately began preparations to have Wilbur turned into a vampire. The turning process takes like a few months at least, so he puts people in charge, gets his kingdom situated, gets the nest ready and he waits for Wil to fully heal.
And so Wilbur’s like locked in this room he’s got no way out, he’s going to be turned, and as Technoblade sits with him he fully realizes what’s going on and he just. Breaks down crying.
He then confesses to Techno that he was playing an act the whole time and he was hoping to figure out a way to trick Technoblade and get back home and Techno is like I know Wil its alright how about this I’ll take you back to your kingdom for a visit, after everything’s settled
And Wilbur is like yeah I’ll take what I can get, I’ve lost, and he gets turned into a vampire. He goes through the whole turning process, which takes literal months, and by the time he’s out of the nest, he has a mental link to Techno and he’s just fully accepted Technoblade as family now (that fledgling bonding instinct is STRONG)
Wilbur takes his role as the reborn prince with full certainty now and when he calls Techno his brother he’s not acting, he’s saying it and believing it, bc he’s part of the coven now, he is his brother.
Kinda a bleak ending for Wil but he’s kinda content with Techno’s company bc Techno really cares for him AND this is Not the end.
That’s just arc one.
This shit however is getting long so I’m gonna cut it here, next arc is going to be ARC TWO: using adopting as a revenge tactic. Such fun.
(btw there are three arcs I have in my head this shit is so fucking long you dont even know AND THIS IS THE SUMMARY VERSION IMAGINE ME ACTUALLY WRITING THIS HAHAHA i need a nap or like a drug or something)
