Work Text:

It was a simple day in Gear Station.

Ingo and Emmet arrived at 5:25 A.M. They unlocked the doors, and turned on the lights. They ordered donuts for themselves and the employees, and got to work. They activated the rail lines, turned on the automatic trains for the regular lines, and got to preparing their teams for the battle lines.

The day went by pretty fast, everything going as planned, until…

“Bravo! You fought with such power, Hilbert!” Ingo cheers, clapping his hands lightly. “You have gotten a lot stronger, that’s for sure!” He turns to the PC, and walks over to it, scanning each Pokeball to heal his Pokemon.

“Thank you so much, Mr. Ingo!” Hilbert grins, giving his Galvantula a scritch under its chin. Then, he pauses. “Hey, Mr. Ingo?”

“Yes?” Ingo asks. He turns away from the PC, and faces Hilbert.

“Who’s the better brother?” Hilbert asks. “You or Emmet?”

“What? Are you sure?” Elesa asks, with her phone held between her ear and her shoulder. She leans forward, and lightly brushes another layer of nail polish on her nail. “You want to use the Gym’s stage for that?”

“Yes, Elesa.” Ingo replies. “I told Emmet about the question, and he wanted to prove that he is better than I am. Of course, I cannot let that happen, so I publicly challenged him to a battle. Now people wish to see our battle.”

“Alright, I guess that’s fine.” Elesa replies absently. She places the polish brush in the bottle, and twists it shut. “It’s tomorrow, right?”

“Yes, that is correct.” Ingo replies affirmatively. “Thank you, Elesa.” He adds before ending the call.

“Didn’t even say goodbye…” Elesa scoffs. “He must really want to beat Emmet, huh?”

The stage lights turn on, shining bright on the battlefield.

The audience cheers as the curtains move aside, revealing a man in white and a man in black behind them.

Ingo and Emmet step forward, taking their places on the battlefield. They turn, and face each other. Ingo, as stern as always, and Emmet, with a bigger grin than ever before on his face.

They both bow, and the crowd goes wild.

“I am Emmet. I am a Subway Boss.” Emmet explains. “I like Double Battles. I like combinations of two Pokemon. And I like winning more than anything else. Today I will win in a Single Battle. I will prove my sibling superiority. I am Emmet, and I am the better Subway Boss.”

“I am the Subway Boss Ingo. I will choose the next destination in our lives based on your talent. Can you hold on to your principle, and prove your words in battle? Will you go on to victory, or defeat?” Ingo begins. “I am ready for battle. Let’s get this on track, and give a wonderful show for our passengers.”

“Are you ready, brother?” Emmet asks, pulling a Pokeball out of his coat pocket.

“I am always ready.” Ingo replies, also grabbing a Pokeball.

They both nod, and shout, “All aboard!”

“Crustle, it’s time to leave the station!” Ingo shouts.

“Durant, tickets please!” Emmet exclaims.

Both Pokemon land on the battlefield, ready to fight. “Cruuuus!” “Dududududraaaan!”

“Crustle, use a controlled Earthquake!” Ingo orders, just as Emmet shouts, “Go for an Iron Head!”

Durant charges forth, and Crustle slams its pincers into the ground and the stage starts shaking. Durant leaps into the air, and rams into Crustle’s shell.

“Now then, go for an X-Scissor! Aim for Crustle’s engine!” Emmet shouts.

“Use Stone Edge, mach speed!” Ingo shouts.

Crustle slams its pincers into the ground, sending up rock after rock, in Durant’s direction. Durant charges forward, before being jabbed in the stomach by a rock, and sent flying down to the ground near Emmet’s feet.

“Durant, can you continue?!” Emmet exclaims. Durant struggles to get up before ultimately collapsing to the ground. “I see. Thank you for your help, friend.” Emmet sighs. He recalls it to its Pokeball, and grabs another one. “Archeops, it’s time for departure!”

“Aaaaaarcheeeoooop!” Archeops cries out, flapping its wings to stay afloat.

“I see you are going for a risky strategy, brother.” Ingo laughs. “We shall finish this quickly, and get back to the Battle Subway at once!”

“As if we could lose, Ingo! We are the verrrrrry best, after all!” Emmet grins.

“Stone Edge, quickly!” Ingo shouts, and Emmet shouts, “Earthquake!” Emmet orders.

Crustle slams its pincers into the ground, sending up rock after rock, in Archeops’ direction. Archeops drops to the ground, slamming its talons on the stage, before flying back up. The ground shakes, and Crustle is lifted into the air, before falling back down, landing underneath its own shell.

“Crustle!!” Ingo gasps.

Crustle haphazardly rolls over, cries out with an angry war cry, and collapses onto its stomach.

Ingo recalls it to its Pokeball, and laughs. “You have trained well, Emmet. But this battle is mine to win!” He takes out another Pokeball, and sends out Excadrill. “Excadrill, it’s time to lay the tracks to victory!”

“Archeops, use Earthquake!” Emmet shouts, and Ingo counters with “Rock Slide!”.

Excadrill grabs debris from the stage and throws them in the air, causing them to fall onto Archeops as it slams its talons on the ground. Archeops falls from the sky, and Excadrill staggers on the shaking stage as it collapses.

“Excadrill?!” Ingo exclaims. “Fine, we can win this on the final Pokemon!”

“Likewise, Ingo. This will be verrrrrry interesting!” Emmet grins.

They both throw another Pokeball, both shouting, “Haxorus, all aboard!!” and “Galvantula, it’s time to depart!”

Haxorus lands on the stage with a roar, accompanied by Galvantula chittering fiercely, sending sparks of electricity all around it.

“Galvantula, use Protect!” Emmet shouts. Ingo laughs, and orders, “Dragon Dance!”

Galvantula guards its face, and Emmet pales even further as Haxorus spins around, visibly becoming even stronger.

“Galvantula, strike it with Cross Poison!” Emmet orders.

“Haxorus, use Dragon Dance again!” Ingo shouts.

Haxorus starts trying to spin around, but Galvantula charges forward, its mandibles drenched a dark purple. It rams into Haxorus, knocking it down before it can use Dragon Dance, leaving a poisoned effect on Haxorus.

“Now, Galvantula, let’s do this!” Emmet shouts. “All or nothing- Wild Charge!”

“Use Dragon Claw!” Ingo shouts.

Haxorus slashes at Galvantula, but the EleSpider lunges aside, dodging all damage, and then charges at Haxorus, dealing damage to both Pokemon. Haxorus growls, and then winces as the purple hue appears on its face again for a few brief seconds.

“Dragon Claw!” Ingo shouts again.

“Wild Charge!” Emmet shouts.

Galvantula charges at Haxorus, lunges into its leg before narrowly dodging the Dragon Claw. Haxorus growls angrily, and winces again, the purple hue appearing even darker this time.

“That’s it, Emmet, this ends now!” Ingo exclaims. “Earthquake!!!”

“Galvantula, let’s finish this!” Emmet shouts. “Wild Charge!!!”

Haxorus kicks at the ground rapidly, causing it to start trembling. Galvantula charges at Haxorus, jumps up, and… rams into Haxorus.

Haxorus roars. Its face turns a deep purple, and it collapses to the ground. Galvantula lands, and collapses from recoil, causing both Pokemon to faint.

Everyone is silent.

Then, Ingo starts clapping. Emmet grins, and starts clapping along. Everyone starts cheering, not at the tie, but at the battle itself.

“Bravo!! Excellent!!!” Ingo exclaims, tears streaming down his face.

“I am Emmet. I am a Subway boss, but I tied against my brother. But I feel good. Because it was serious, which means it was verrrrry fun!” Emmet exclaims.

“I am so glad that we fought, Emmet! Because this allowed us to see that we are equally as strong!” Ingo cries out. “We are the same, yet different. We are both incredible trainers, and are both incredibly powerful in battle, along with the Pokemon we command!!” he sobs.

Emmet runs across the stage, and rams into Ingo, wrapping his twin in his arms, causing the crowd to erupt into even louder cheers.
