Chapter Text
Blake woke up slowly and let out a soft groan. Her head was killing her. She debated staying in bed. She turned her head into her pillow to soak up the familiar scents of home...but the smells of sandalwood and smoke were completely foreign to her.
She cracked her eyes open to look around and started to panic when she didn't recognize her surroundings. Suddenly a snore next to her in bed had Blake focused on the stranger sleeping with her inches away.
Blake jumped out of bed. At least she was wearing PJs. Blake stared at the sleeping blonde woman turned away from her.
Blake tried to calm down. Simple. She got super drunk last night and had a one night stand. She'd better leave before the other woman woke up and Blake had to admit she didn't remember any of it. No, she had to go, now.
She slinked down the stairs of the blonde woman's house, but froze when she saw a brunette woman with red tips making something in the kitchen. Maybe a roommate? Blake figured if she was quiet she could probably sneak by her.
Blake quietly inched her way to the front door when suddenly there was something attacking her legs.
"Mom!" a young, cheerful voice yelled.
Blake looked down to see a young Faunus child hugging her legs. They had blonde hair like the strange woman, but two cat ears on the top of their head and amber eyes, much like her own.
The brunette woman in the kitchen turned around and smiled.
"Blake! Sorry if I woke you. Yin wanted to come back early, so I'm making pancakes. I have to uphold my title of best aunt!"
"Mom! Mom! I watched Grimm Tales!"
The brunette winced. "Please don't tell Yang. I know you two are trying to limit screen time."
Yang. Why did that sound vaguely familiar?
The young boy had moved on and was playing with a couple of stuffed toys in the corner.
"Blake? Are you okay? You look terrified. Bad dreams again?" the brunette asked.
A voice came from the stairs. "Ruby, it's early. Why are you being so loud, so early?"
Ruby?
The child rushed to the blonde. "Momma! Come play! "
"In a bit, lil' bit." The blonde woman moved close to her and as she leaned towards Blake's face, Blake instinctively stepped back away from the blonde. "Blake?"
Blake shook off her shock and cleared her throat. "Who are you? Who are any of you?" Blake pointed at the kid. "Who is that!? And why are they calling me Mom!?"
The young child moved next to the blonde woman. "Momma? What's wrong with Mom?"
"Seriously Blake, what's wrong? Did you have a bad dream?"
"That's it. This is just a dream. I'll wake up and everything will be back to normal. I just have to wake up."
The blonde gently guided the child towards the brunette. "Yin, why don’t you go play with Aunt Ruby while I chat with Mom?"
"Okay!" Yin followed Ruby who shot Yang a worried look.
Yang took a look at Blake and pointed to the living room. "Why don't we - '' Yang pointed to the couch and armchair, " - sit down? You...you look like you're close to passing out."
Blake collapsed into the couch and Yang sat near her in the armchair. "I don't understand why I'm not waking up," Blake murmured.
"Because, babe, this isn't a dream. This is our life."
"Who are you?"
Yang smiled. "I don't suppose this is all an elaborate prank because Yin and I scared you yesterday?"
"Who are you?"
Yang's smile dipped and she replaced it with a concerned look. "You're serious. Blake, it's me, Yang, your partner...your wife."
"Wife? No, I don't...how can you say all that? What did you do to me? Did Adam do this?''
Yang winced. "Haven't heard that name in a long time. No, Adam didn't do any of this. Honey, Adam is dead."
"Dead? But...I just left him..."
"Blake, how old do you think you are?"
"Seventeen?"
"Okay...have you started at Beacon yet?"
"No, I'm on my way there. I must have hit my head. This isn't making sense."
Yang nodded. "I'm sure it isn't. My name is Yang Xiao Long-Belladonna, though I usually just go by Yang. You met my sister Ruby Rose earlier and our son, Yin. You and I met at Beacon Academy. We became partners and were on a team with Ruby and her partner, Weiss Schnee."
"Schnee?! Now I know I'm dreaming. There's no way I'd ever be on a team with a Schnee."
"She was a bit rough at first, but she changed. You two are best friends now."
Blake shook her head. It was all too much. "I want my parents. Where are they? Where are we?"
"We're on Menagerie. Your parents are minutes away. Let me call them to come over and you...you try to relax."
As Yang left, Blake muttered, "Fat chance."
Soon after Blake saw a pair of amber eyes peeking at her from the doorway.
The child Yang had called her son, Yin, slowly walked up to her. "Mom? Are you feeling better? Aunt Ruby said you weren't feeling good. I can kiss it better. That's what Momma does when I hurt my knees when I fall down."
Blake couldn't help the small smile on her face at this adorable child's attempt to make her feel better.
"How old are you, Yin?" she asked.
He held up five fingers. "3!"
"Wow, so old," Blake teased gently.
Yin crawled up onto the couch and rested against Blake, snuggling into her side. "Love you," he murmured.
Blake wrapped her arm around him and brought him in closer to her. She may not know him, but he seemed to know her and it would be cruel to reject his affection. Or at least that's what she told herself.
What in the whole of Remnant was going on?!
