Chapter Text
Chapter I
The Hero and The Princess
the Narrator:
You're on a path in the woods. And at the end of that path, is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin, is a Princess. You're here to slay her. If you don't, it'll be the end of the world.
You make your way up the short path to the cabin. You'll find the Princess within.
Voice of the Hero:
We're not going to go through with this, right? She's a princess. We're supposed to save princesses, not slay them.
the Narrator:
Ignore him. He doesn't know what he's talking about.
The interior of the cabin is almost entirely bare. The air is stale and musty and the floor and walls are painted in a fine layer of dust. The only furniture of note is a plain wooden table. Perched on that table is a pristine blade.
The blade is your implement, you'll need it if you want to do this right.
(Explore) [Look out the window to the view outside the cabin.]
the Narrator:
You walk up to the window beside the blade seated table. The thin layer of dust makes the view of outside seem musty and unclear. It's better to pursue your quest now rather than dawdle staring where you came from.
(Explore) But I wanna see if the view is nice.
the Narrator:
You do not need to stall on simple things right now. All that matters is you getting down to that basement and slaying the princess. You've already been outside.
(Explore) [Wipe window clean.]
the Narrator:
You expend your Limited time cleaning the windows with your hand. Note this will not result in any reward, so do with that what you will.
Regardless of this time wasted, the only noteworthy thing visible from outside is a single white lily in the green palette of the forest.
(Explore) [Take the blade.]
the Narrator:
You take the blade from the table. It'd be rather difficult to slay the Princess and save the world without it.
[Enter the basement.]
the Narrator:
The door to the basement creaks open, revealing a staircase faintly illuminated by an unseen light in the room below. This is an oppressive place. The air feels heavy and damp, a hint ofWhy did you fall down the stairs, you weren't supposed to do that Why did you fall down the stairs? As you. Pathetically fumble down the stairs, your blade slips from your hand and flies out to the basement before you. The Princess looks at you with widened eyes from across the room.
Well. You certainly know how to make an entrance. I didn't even get to say anything before you came down here.
the Narrator:
As you stand back up awkwardly the Princess glances to the blade that clattered away from you.
…what did you plan to do with that?
(Explore) “Let's say, Hypothetically, I came here to slay you.”
…and?
(Explore) “And, For the sake of debate. Let's say I'm not gonna do that.”
Voice of the Hero:
Ha! I knew it! We weren't gonna slay her!
the Narrator:
No, you're supposed to slay her. If you don't it'll be the end of the world. Didn't we already go over this?
Voice of the Hero:
Well what are you doing that's stopping us from hearing her out?
the Narrator:
Advising against it.
…right. Then why did you bring a knife in the first place?
(Explore) “I thought i needed it at first but i don't anymore.”
Well if you Did need it you'd probably be picking it back up. So I trust you for now.
the Narrator:
No this isn't what you're supposed to do you need to slay her! You need to pick the knife back up.
Voice of the Hero:
I don't think we should do that honestly. She seems approachable enough. We should try and talk.
“I think we should get out of here together." [Free the Princess.]
the Narrator:
No no no! Cut that out you can't let her leave the basement! Sigh. The Princesses eyes light up subtly in hope.
Oh? Really? That'd be great! I've been down here for a really long time. I just want to go home.
the Narrator:
She's down here for a Reason. You need to reconsider your choices and do what you came here to do.
Voice of the Hero:
I feel like this is the right thing to do. She seems harmless enough, maybe if we get on her good side she won't end the world?
the Narrator:
There is no side to get on it's the end of everything and everyone. Everyone includes you as well. I'm heavily suggesting you reconsider your previous actions. Before you regret it.
[Help the princess out of the cuff.]
the Narrator:
You kneel by the Princess's side, carefully assisting her in sliding her hand out of the cuff without breaking her wrist in the process. I hope you realize the immense amount of damage this will do to the universe.
She looks up to you with a soft smile, eyes glittering lightly with a hidden trust. Your eyes have trouble keeping the balance and you glance to the side. Please snap out of this.
[Turn back and leave.]
the Narrator:
You get up with the Princess, holding her hand as you head back to the stairs.
Before you can begin your ascent however. The click of a door being locked echoes down the stairs into the room holding you both.
You've been trapped.
[Run up the stairs.]
the Narrator:
You abandon the Princess's hand as you rush back up the stairs, determined to make a difference in your state of being locked into the basement.
But it was too late. The door didn't budge and from your lack of care for momentum, you trip back down the stairs and slam your head against the floor to the basement.
Your vision begins to fade as you start losing consciousness, a cold pain stinging the back of your head as you realize it's been cracked open from the back.
The Princess stares in shock.
Voice of the Hero:
Wait, that isn't right. We can't die just yet can we?
the Narrator:
But you do. Everything goes dark.
And you die.
