Work Text:
She breathes heavily, tiredly.
Done. Job complete. Body and soul collected.
She can follow the rest of them now.
She can get to Agatha.
Rio looks at the house once more, taking things in. A part of her finds hilarious THIS is Agatha's trial. A ouija board? After everything the witch has done? After everything she and Rio had done together?
Then some board games fall and she rolls her eyes. Yeah, this is it, it does make sense, this godforsaken woman. She hates ghosts, there's nothing she can do with them. Kill them? They already denied their soul to be taken to “the other side” or whatever. They are simply annoying. She hates Evanora's ghost even more.
“At the end of all this I'll wish for you to get stuck in the worst place on this Earth forever.” Rio says, irritated. Already making her way up to the stairs. She knows Evanora can't do anything, the trial is over, and what would she do with Death anyway? Kill her? It takes more than a ghost. Keep her there? No one can keep Death locked up - Maybe Agatha but that's another conversation. “Goodbye… Bitch.”
Something else falls but Rio doesn't bother to look back, she climbs the stairs and hears the door closing behind her.
Rio looks around the Road and can see the rest of the witches… and that boy, a few meters away. Agatha isn't with them.
“Why did you take so long?” Jen asks.
“Got possesed.” She says, her creepy smile coming out; Rio knows they're afraid of her, or maybe at least this one does, cause Lilia simply rolls her eyes.
She turns to Teen, Rio doesn't really care about talking to him but she knows he pays attention to the one she's looking for. “Agatha?” She asks, her voice serious. He points ahead.
“I told her not to go; with all those creepy bitches down here but obviously-” Jen starts.
“Shut up.” Rio cuts, then breathes heavily, worried, Jen did have a point. “I'm going after her, just don't move. They're watching.” Her eyes widen.
She turns and walks away without looking back, even if she can hear murmuring, she doesn't care, she has to find Agatha, before someone else does.
Rio knows she can't have gone that far, Agatha might be upset, but she has never been stupid, the witch knows the Salem Seven are close.
“Agatha?” She calls out once her voice is out of reach from the others. “Agatha!”
“I don't wanna talk.” Rio hears it back, she turns and Agatha is just sitting there, in the dark, hands in her head, dark hair covering her face, sitting with a tree as a resting place.
Rio sighs, and walks over without thinking twice, her own demeanor changing. This is not the time to be cocky or funny. Agatha's mother is… a really hard subject.
“We don't have to talk.” She sits by Agatha's side and a part of her is surprised the woman doesn't flinch. “But those seven bitches are here, you can't be alone.”
Agatha simply hums. Agatha knows, and if she's being honest, there has always been comfort in Rio's presence. Ironically enough.
They stay in silence for a few minutes - until Rio gets impatient and starts whistling.
“Oh yeah, great way of keeping the creepies away.” Agatha almost hisses.
Rio laughs, Agatha sides eye her. Rio puts her hands up, still smiling, then pretends to tie her own mouth shut, getting only a glare and an eye roll in return.
There's silence for a few more minutes.
“She's dead, Agatha. Doomed by her hatred. You're still here.” Rio says bluntly.
Agatha laughs.
“Until when? For all we know I might be her in a few hours.”
Rio turns completely serious.
“I won't let it.” No. Agatha would cross even if Rio herself had to drag her, she wouldn't spend her dead days dreading, not when she's spent most of her life like this already.
“She hates me.”
“She's evil.”
“And I'm what then?”
“Beautiful, Agatha.” Rio says bluntly, she never lies to Agatha.
Agatha turns to face Rio, resting her head on her own knee. Tears, oh my GOD, Rio hates Evanora.
“I couldn't control it.” Agatha says, once more. Rio thinks she says more to herself to believe than actually trying to convince Rio.
Because Rio knows, and Agatha knows Rio knows.
“I know.” She says it anyway, risking contact.
The green witch lets her fingers linger onto Agatha's tears, smiling as the other's eyes close at her touch.
“Did she- was it hard?” Agatha asks, looking into Rio's dark eyes, still letting the woman touch her. She doesn't know why it matters, she doesn't know why she cares. She didn't know almost anything about Alice but still.
Maybe it was the fact that the woman and her mother were the opposite of Agatha and her own mother. Maybe she just felt jealous.
Rio smiles and nods.
“She's alright.”
“Thank you.” She whispers. Rio is confused. “You wouldn't leave me there.”
“Not with her.” She responds serious, her hand cradling the other's face. “Besides… How fun would this be without you?”
Agatha laughs, she looks at Rio.
“Why do you still…” love me? protect me? care?
“Because it's you.” Rio responds without needing Agatha to finish.
It's not weird for them, deep conversations, they've known each other for centuries, not all in them is fun and kinky and a battle for strength. They know each other too well for it to just be it.
“People don't like me this much.”
Rio smirks a little, her eyebrows raising, they might not be all games but she knows what Agatha is doing.
“I'm not people.” She's Death, things are different for her but most importantly, she was Agatha's shadow, lingering and lurking to do her part of the job after Agatha finished hers. And then they'd meet, for centuries; every time. Ever since Agatha's coven was killed by her.
Agatha might not be able to control her power, but she doesn't hate it, no, and Rio knows it. Agatha likes the power. Agatha loves control.
The purple witch steps back just a few centimeters, she needs Rio's closeness right now. She opens one of her hands, palm up, power shinning above it. Agatha smiles, she can't help it, she loves it; then she turns to Rio again, showing it to her.
Rio smirks.
“Guess the Road lead us back to old times sweetheart.”
Agatha is the one smirking now. It's easy to loosen up around the other woman, it always has been. She surges forward, no thinking.
“Agatha…”
The witch huffs.
“The boy isn't mine. What else do you have to tell me?”
Rio's fingers are entangled in disheveled hair.
“You're not okay.”
“Since when did that ever stop us?”
Rio smirks once more. She pulls Agatha's hair, making their faces to be only a few centimeters apart. She rolls her eyes listening to the small moan the light eyed witch lets out.
“No.” She says, her lips touching Agatha's while she speaks.
It takes no more than a second for Agatha to close the distance, pushing Rio against the tree, almost sitting in her lap.
This is better than power; for any of them. Their tongues fighting for power while both of them try to handle the emotions of coming back home after so long. Rio thinks she might be crying, or maybe it's Agatha. It's probably both. There's so many feelings, there's so many unsaid words.
There's also the understanding this is all they can do right now. It's enough for Rio, any part of Agatha is enough for her.
Her hands are tangled into Agatha's messy hair, pulling it, then they go to her face, caressing her cheeks, wet by salty tears.
Rio changes their position in a second, breaking their lips while she pushes Agatha to the tree, one of her hands in the woman's neck. They both smirk. Rio doesn't go for Agatha's lips, she bites her neck, enough to hear Agatha's failed attempt of not moaning loudly. She kisses it, she licks it, and bites again. Agatha's hands hold the woman in place, both of them clutching Rio's legs, her eyes closed, head leaned back so the other witch has more space to do what she wants.
It's a while before Rio makes their mouths meet again, kissing Agatha fiercely, roughly, biting her lips, making it bleed, and the purple witch just moans and moans. Rio loves this, she loves the control she has over the one who loves control. She presses one of her hands by Agatha's pants. Moan.
“Rio… We can't… We can't do that right now.”
“I know.” Rio steps back; only one hand holding Agatha in place; choking the woman slightly. “Promise me we will later.” She says serious.
“I-” the choking gets stronger, Agatha let's out another moan, a smirk. “You're dirty.” She says, quite eagerly.
“I am. Now tell me what I wanna hear.” Their eyes are locked with each other, so many emotions inside their orbits.
“I promise.”
Rio smiles; biting Agatha's lip.
“Agatha Harkness, you just can't stop making deals with Death, can you?”
Agatha lets out a laugh.
“I guess I enjoy the risks.”
Rio simply smirks, letting the woman go.
“Let's go back.”
Agatha groans.
“C'mon, power of friendship, power in numbers.” Rio says ironically, giving Agatha her hand to help her get up.
“Funny.” Agatha adjusts her clothes.
“They are here, Aggie.” Agatha thinks the nickname makes her melt more than their make out. “Let's go, my lady.”
Teen tries to get something out of them when they come back. He's mad at Agatha, but the witch doesn't talk; she keeps her head high and almost loses it when she hears Rio hissing, making the boy shut up.
They choose a tree where they are close to the others but they can't see them. None of them argue about it, they all know there's something between the two.
They lay in an uncomfortable fallen tree branch. Rio doesn't sleep, too much on her head to handle it. Why is it that, out of all she's seen, all she's been, everyone she's met, Agatha Harkness is her weakness?
As if to taunt her even more, she hears Agatha mumbling by her side.
“No… Mother, no.” The witch says it in her sleep.
Rio looks at her, her black heart breaking. She pulls Agatha to her, like she's done so many times in the past, and the witch doesn't fight it, it's like her body knows Rio's touch enough not to feel threatened, even in her sleep.
“It's okay Aggie.” Rio whispers into her ear, her hand caressing Agatha's hair, and the other caressing the arm Agatha dropped over her abdomen.
Just like old times. Rio misses it.
Rio's biggest wish is to go back to the way they were.
