Chapter Text
Y'know, Jimmy Olsen isn't stupid.
He's not, truly. Some people online would, could and *do* tell him that, but they're wrong.
He's *aware* of what he sounds like, but there's a certain secret that gives him faith that there's more out there; Aliens, cryptids, super scientists, secret projects, etc.-
-And that is his long-time best friend, Clark Joseph Kent.
Now, the big guy certainly thinks he's clever, but he's truly bad at hiding "It." His "Thing." Jimmy was unclear of the specifics about the "Thing," but he was aware of *some* parts of the "Thing."
One: Clark is indestructible.
Two: Clark is super strong.
Three: Clark is very fast.
Four: Clark is a terrible liar.
...Well, the last thing is probably just Clark as a person and not his "Thing," but Jimmy's not sure if the "Thing" is separate from Clark to begin with. He desperately wants to ask his friend so many questions- is he an alien? An experiment? A mutant? A king from Atlantis? A cryptid in human form? Whatever he was, he was absolutely certain of one thing- Clark Joseph Kent is *not* evil.
Jimmy *knows* how people can put on placid smiles while advocating for the most hateful things, he knows people will do good things just for the optics- as a so-called "Conspiracy Theorist" he's well aware of the horrors that exist in this world for the so-called Greater Good-
-However, you just can't fake "That."
"That" being Clark taking time out of his day to help old people cross roads; taking a moment to help construction workers move an *truly* unreasonable amount of weight, seemingly unaware of the impossibility as he nearly clocks Jimmy with an I-Beam.
Clark being evil? The guy that eats exactly a dozen donuts every Monday morning, not just because of the flavor, but to support local businesses and because the owners were "nice?" The guy that cries watching *My Neighbor Totoro* and that loves watching videos of cute animals- with a fondness for big dogs and kittens playing together?
If Clark Joseph Kent is evil, then he'd eat his camera.
The dude's almost too good to be true, but when Clark lies his ears turn bright red and he starts stammering. Jimmy isn't sure the guy *knows* he's got such a specific tell- but then again, Clark hang out with pretty much anyone else.
He's content to be the guys' best friend. To organize events to go to, to map their route throughout the city, to chat about life and games and movies into the late night... but he does wish Clark would come clean.
But that's fair, not every secret needs to be told.
(Even though he wishes they would be.)
