Even though it's still unfinished, I gotta say that I love this fic so much. This one shows just how deep trauma can go. How the pain of being stabbed in the back by the hands of someone you loved is the worst kind of pain there is. The realism of how trauma affects a person is shown so perfectly in every chapter of this story that it's nearly draining to read sometimes, but in the best way possible. It means that it doesn't fail in the immersion aspect.
I have to warn beforehand that this story is SO fucking emotionally heavy. And I'm not exaggerating. It's the only fanfic I've ever read that I cried with pretty much every chapter. The loneliness, sadness and the pain that Ella feels after Joel's betrayal is just so visceral and translated so efficiently into words that sometimes, when reading this, my heart ached as if I was experiencing that hurt myself. I love this story, truly, but it does feel like getting your heart stomped over repeatedly, so I don't recommend reading it in a bad day. It does get better, though. It's just a long ride 'til there.
