Chapter 1: Emotionally constipated diesel

Chapter Text

Ever since she was a small trainlet, Greaseball knew she wanted to be one of the best racers out there.
Having wanted to grow up to be just like her father, who she was named after to carry on his legacy, and also having wanted to be first like herself to take a spot on a podium and have her name known by all. She knew it wasn't going to be an easy task no matter how hard she trained but not once did she think about resigning herself to being nothing but a simple shunting engine.

She fought and trained until her paint was chipping and her internals were overheating, because she knew about the high expectations placed on her. The judgemental stares the press, public and other racers would give her when she boasted about her skills only for them to turn around and congratulate her on her win only proved to her how much being a champion meant in this world.

She was a champion first and foremost, a diesel engine second and a being worth love third. That was how her every waking moments were spent until she met a certain dining coach, who even through all her crashes and on and off track mistakes stayed by her side until she had pushed too far. Those few short hours where Greaseball had thought she had lost Dinah was one of the worst times in her life, that even losing the championships against a steam engine didn’t even phase her and her apologizing became a pivotal moment in their relationship.

Knowing that Dinah still wanted to be with her even after she lost one of the biggest races of her career permanently changed the way she went about her every day life. Now having the knowledge that her worth as a sentient being was based on how good she was on the race track or how heavy she could lift, left her thinking long and hard about her relationship with Dinah.

It left her thinking about how long she had spent avoiding any sort of love and affection, having believed it would make her seem weak. That now she had a healthy and stable relationship with Dinah, she found herself believing that adding another to their relationship would be beneficial, because of how much affection she still wanted to give. Since Dinah could only handle so much of Greaseball’s love, and since they both showed affection in vastly different ways that inviting a third would give them someone they could shower with affection in their own ways, while still having each other to rely on.

That for the first time in history Greaseball had initiated a conversation about her own feelings and wants without there being some sort of ulterior motive or catch involved that would upset Dinah. With both of them agreeing that a certain oil tanker had caught their eyes.
