Work Text:

Grian gently closed the door behind him, ensuring it didn't slam. He had been hanging out with Scar most of the afternoon into the evening, goofing off and having a couple of drinks at the local bar. The two of them had left Scar's apartment hours ago and had only just finished up a (slightly drunken) walk in the park.

"Thanks for letting me stay the night, Scar. I'm pretty sure the last bus already left for the night," Grian said to the other. It had gotten late, around midnight, and Grian really didn't want to try to walk back in the dark to his apartment, especially being as exhausted as he is currently.

"Anytime, G!" Scar tossed his jacket lazily on top of a chair and dropped his keys into a dish on the counter. The taller man yawned as he stretched his arms above his head, clearly tired from the busy day.

Grian yawned in return, just as exhausted from the day and dreading tomorrow. Grian took in his surroundings, it was the same as always. Scar had a small apartment, as most in this area were, with a small entry hallway opening up into a small kitchen where the remnants of today's dishes lay untouched in the sink. An archway to the left opened up to a larger space containing the living room.

As the two men shucked off their shoes and stepped into the living room together, they were greeted by Katy Bee and Mr Finnegan rubbing up against both their legs. Grian smiled and bent down to pick up Katy and scratch behind her ear.

"Why, hello there!" Grian smiled down at Katy, nuzzling his face against hers. It hadn't been long since he had been at Scar's place, but still, he missed the cats regardless.

Unbeknownst to Grian, as he was cooing at and petting the cat, Scar was watching him with a twinkle in his eyes and a broad smile on his lips. After a few beats of staring, the brown-haired man caught himself and looked away, a blush blooming on his face.

"So," Grian started, gently putting Katy Bee back down onto the floor, "Blankets?" he questioned, looking over expectantly at Scar.

"What?" Scar asked, startled and slightly confused by the question.

"For the couch?" Grian continued. To him, it was obvious, but clearly not to Scar.

"Oh! I thought we could share my bed," the other responded, "That would be easier than having to set up the couch for you."

Grian paused, registering the others' words, his cheeks were growing increasingly red. He stammered and stared at Scar in disbelief. Scar was looking back at him, a just barely hidden excitement in his eyes and a small smirk on his lips.

"Uh, well, I suppose that's fine too," the blonde man said, fidgeting with the hem of his sweater. It's not like Grian opposed the idea of sleeping next to Scar, far from it, he simply didn't expect Scar to propose the idea, and especially not for that to happen tonight.

With that, Grian set down his small bag and followed Scar to his room. It was nothing he hadn't seen before; it was dimly lit with a standing lamp in the corner, a closet sunken in the wall, and a large plush bed with two nightstands on either side. There was also decor scattered around the room, including a couple of picture frames that held happy memories of friends, movie posters on the wall, and a tall standing mirror in the corner. Overall, it was a personal and inviting space to be in.

The shorter man realized he hadn't brought any change of clothes, not originally planning on spending the night here, "Uh, Scar?"

"Yeah, G?" Scar was falling into his usual routine. Scar set down his own items next to his bed and started to walk towards the door, slowing his steps as he awaited Grian's answer. He stopped fully when Grain opened his mouth to speak.

"I don't have a change of clothes…" Grain trailed off, feeling more awkward than he should have.

"Oh! You can just borrow some of mine, then! There should be something in there that will work, might just be a tad too large," and with that, Scar exited the room.

Left to figure something out for himself, Grian walked over to the closet. When he slid open the door, he looked down and spotted some labeled drawers sitting in a cubby and on the floor. He bent down and opened the drawer labeled 'shorts' and slid it out. As he peered inside, he spotted a pair of comfy-looking shorts that had a drawstring. Perfect! He could adjust the waist if needed to. After picking up the shorts, he tossed them behind him onto the bed as he looked for a shirt.

After a good couple of seconds, he found a drawer holding casual shirts. He rummaged around for a moment and came across a Star Wars t-shirt. Grian rolled his eyes and laughed to himself. Of course, He thought, rolling his eyes, and tossed that back to the bed as well.

Just as he turned around to collect the two items, Scar reentered the room, his hair brushed out and down out of the usual bun. He smiled at Grian and then headed to the closet to grab some clothes for himself.

Scar fetched a pair of shorts from one of the bins and turned back around to face the room. He lifted the hem of his shirt and pulled off the top, tossing it into a laundry bin in the corner.

Grian quickly looked away, and red blooming on his cheeks, "Scar!" He shouted, "Put a shirt on!"

Grian could hear the other chuckling, and after a moment, he could hear quiet rustling as the other changed from jeans into shorts. And out of the corner of his eye, He could see those jeans join Scar's discarded shirt in the laundry.

While Scar's back was turned, Grian took it as an opportunity to change from his own clothes into the newly borrowed ones. As he was removing his signature red sweater, Scar had turned around.

Scar shot him a look after seeing his binder still on, "Remember to take that off, Mister." He wagged a finger at Grian, causing the other to roll his eyes, again.

"I know, Scar, you don't have to remind me." Grian moved his hands to fumble with the bottom of the tight fabric, but realized Scar was still watching him. he gestured at the other to turn around; Scar complied, giving Grian a tight nod and Yes, of course, giving Grian the privacy to finish changing.

Grian finished pulling the binder up and over his head, replacing it with the shirt he borrowed from Scar. The shirt sat a little weird, being a bit too big and too wide in the shoulders, despite that, it would work.

After a moment, Scar turned back around to face Grian once again, his eyes lingering for a little too long. He then cleared his throat then piped up.

"So, shall we get to bed?" He makes a motion over the bed while taking slow, small steps.

Grian nodded and moved over to the opposite side of the bed. He sat down atop the covers and looked over to Scar, who is now shuffling around and adjusting himself to lie beneath the covers. Grian follows suit and begins to shimmy his way under the warm blankets.

Scar leans over to the bedside table and flicks off the light, plunging the room into darkness. He then turns back to lie facing Grian, propping himself up on his elbow.

The two men stare at each other while their eyes adjust to the darkness. Quiet drawing out between them, not quite tense but also not quite comfortable. The two sit in that growing silence, blinking at each other until Scar finally clears his throat and breaks that growing tension.

"Okay, goodnight!" Grian blurts out, turning to face the wall and quickly shutting his eyes.

"Oh! Uh, Goodnight." Scar stumbled out in an attempt to follow the blonde's words. He lied there continuing to stare at the back of Grian's neck. He watched the way Grian's back shifts as he breathes in slow, calming breaths.

After an achingly long span of thick silence, the sheets rustled as the weight shifted on the bed. Grian felt a warmth creep up behind him as Scar shuffled around, placing his chest against Grian's back. The shorter man tensed up at the abrupt presence behind him.

"Is this alright?" Grian heard the words from behind his ear, just above a whisper, warm breath covering the expanse of his neck, tickling the short hairs there.

It took him a moment to register what Scar was asking, but after a short pause, he nodded and mumbled a yes. Once given permission, Scar slowly wrapped his arm around Grian's middle, pulling him in ever so slightly. Subconsciously, Grian melted into the touch, leaning his weight into Scar and sighing at the contact. Grian quickly started to slip into sleep, the warmth lulling him into a peacefulness he didn't know he needed.

"Grian?" Scar muttered, seeing if the other had fallen asleep. He was met with silence in return and took that as a good sign. "Sleep well, G. Love you." He muttered his sweet words with a decrescendo and closed his eyes, falling into a deep sleep himself, holding that man he'd loved for years close in his arms.

After a long pause, Scar's breathing evened out, and Grian whispered back, "I love you too, Scar," and fell fast asleep.
