Match Made in Flannel

Summary:

Team Free Will throws a low-stakes Halloween party in the Bunker, streamers, plastic bones, and Jack in a DIY ghost sheet. Sam shows up as a vampire. Bobby brings beer. Charlie won’t stop stirring the pot. And Cas? He walks in wearing Dean’s uniform: flannel, denim, boots, looking like he raided Dean’s closet on purpose.

The jokes start. Dean bolts for “air.” In the quiet corridor, one truth becomes impossible to dodge. Confession turns to a hallway kiss; a messy, perfect first time follows, praise, filth, and years of wanting finally burning off, before soft aftercare and a private moment where angels don’t sleep… but they do stay.

Work Text:

The map room looked like it had lost a fight with a party store. Orange and black streamers hung from the light fixtures, fake cobwebs stretched across every available surface, and a plastic skeleton had been propped in the corner like it was just another hunter on standby. Dean stood in the middle of it all, hands on his hips, squinting up at the strings of cheap fairy lights Jack was hanging from the banister.

"Y'know," Dean muttered, voice dripping with skepticism, "for a top secret underground bunker, this place is really losin' its edge."

Jack popped up from behind the table, a sheet draped over him with two crooked eye holes cut out. His grin was wide and proud, the fabric slipping off one shoulder as he threw his hands in the air. "Boo!"

Dean raised a brow. "A ghost. Real original, kid."

"I made it myself!" Jack chirped, completely unaffected by Dean's sarcasm. He spun in a slow circle, the sheet fluttering dramatically around his sneakers. "Cas says I look 'seasonally appropriate.'"

Sam walked in just then, straightening the collar of a velvet black cape. Plastic fangs poked out from under his upper lip, glinting when he smirked. Dean nearly choked on his own laugh.

"Oh, this is perfect," Dean said, leaning back against the table. "Sammy the vampire. Ex demon blood sucker turned literal blood sucker. Ain't that poetic."

Sam sighed like a man who had already accepted he'd be enduring a long night. "It's Halloween, Dean. You're supposed to wear something stupid."

Dean gestured around at the room. "Yeah, well, mission accomplished. You look like the off brand version of Dracula they sell at gas stations."

Jack snorted behind his sheet, earning himself a side-eye from Sam. "I like it," Jack said earnestly. "You look very... vampiric."

Sam rolled his eyes but couldn't hide the twitch of a smile. He moved toward the table, adjusting the centerpiece Jack had made, a big, grinning jack-o'-lantern with a plastic knife sticking out of its head. The orange light from inside flickered across their faces, warm and low, making the whole bunker feel less like a war room and more like some weird attempt at domesticity.

Dean crossed his arms, pretending not to be charmed. He told himself it was ridiculous, grown men and a nephilim decorating like they were throwing a school dance. But the sight of Jack humming off-key under his ghost costume and Sam trying way too hard to look unimpressed actually tugged at something warm and stubborn in Dean's chest.

"Alright," Dean finally sighed, half-smile threatening to break through. "Let's get this over with. Who's gonna explain why there's a fake spider on the war table?"

"It's festive," Jack said, dead serious.

Dean grumbled again, but the sound was softer this time. He didn't hate it. Not really.

The bunker door groaned open a little after eight, the sound echoing down the concrete halls like some kind of old haunted house effect. Jack squeaked, actually squeaked, and darted over to greet whoever had arrived.

Dean glanced up from where he was leaning on the war table, half a cup of spiked cider in hand, just as familiar boots started clomping down the stairs.

"Someone tell me this ain't the weirdest damn Halloween party I've ever been to," Bobby barked, stepping into the map room with a cardboard six pack hooked in one hand. His flannel was tucked into a pair of worn jeans, but he was wearing a ridiculous foam cowboy hat and a sheriff's badge that looked like it came from the kids' section at Walmart.

Dean snorted. "Nice hat, Sheriff Singer."

Bobby adjusted it like it was the real deal. "You hush, boy. At least I'm participatin'."

Behind him came Charlie, practically glowing in a red cape and a pair of devil horns perched in her bright hair. She wiggled her eyebrows dramatically at Dean as she passed, then headed straight to Sam, announcing, "Vampire and Devil, classic power couple energy."

Sam groaned. "It's not a couple costume, Charlie."

"Sure," she teased, leaning an elbow on his arm like it was a perfectly good ledge. "That's what every couple says."

Claire showed up a few minutes later, dragging two other young hunters Dean didn't recognise. She'd gone the lazy route too, wearing black jeans and a leather jacket with fake angel wings strapped to her back.

"Thought I'd bring backup," Claire said, popping the top on a soda. "And yes, I'm dressed as a fallen angel. No, it's not a reference. Don't get weird."

Dean smirked. "Sweetheart, I wasn't gonna say anything. But those wings are crooked."

She flipped him off over her shoulder.

The room started to fill fast after that. Music pulsed low through the speakers Sam had set up earlier, classic rock, of course, because Dean had vetoed anything remotely "modern Halloween playlist" related. Hunters crowded around the map table turned buffet, grabbing beers, laughing, swapping stories. Jack darted from person to person, his little sheet ghost fluttering as he asked everyone what they were dressed as.

Dean stayed back, arms folded, watching the chaos unfold with a fondness he'd never admit out loud. It was rare to see so many people they cared about in one room without blood on the floor or someone dying.

Charlie eventually slid up next to him, sipping a bottle of something with a sparkly label. "So," she said, "where's your angel?"

Dean arched a brow. "My angel? Why? Miss him already?"

"Please. He's the only one who pretends to understand my rants about celestial lore."

Another hunter chimed in from across the room, "Yeah, where is Cas? Thought he was your shadow, Winchester."

Dean shrugged, taking a lazy sip of his drink. "He'll flap in when he feels like it. Always does."

Charlie gave him a knowing look, the kind of look that made him want to throw his cup at her head.

Dean ignored it, gaze flicking toward the staircase even though he told himself he wasn't waiting for anything. Not for the sound of wings. Not for a trench coat. Not for a particular pair of blue eyes.

Not at all.

Dean ducked away from the map table, weaving through the cluster of hunters gathered near the buffet. Someone had already knocked over a bowl of candy corn, and Bobby was muttering about "damn children" as he swept it up with his boot. Dean smirked to himself, grabbing another beer from the cooler by the wall. The cold metal hissed softly as he popped it open, that familiar crisp scent filling his nose.

He leaned back against the far end of the room, where the shadows softened the orange fairy lights, and took a long sip. The buzz of conversation wrapped around him, warm and loud. Jack was explaining his costume to a very patient Claire for the third time, and Sam was locked in a half serious debate with Charlie about whether vampires could out party demons.

Dean let it all wash over him, the easy noise, the laughter, the music. He didn't notice the room starting to shift at first.

It started with a few chuckles near the entrance. Then louder, as more people turned. Someone let out an appreciative whistle, and a ripple of laughter spread like a wave across the room.

Dean frowned into his beer. What the hell are they all laughing at?

Then there was a soft thud of boots on the bunker floor. A tap on his shoulder.

Dean turned.

And froze.

Cas stood behind him, hands shoved awkwardly into the front pockets of dark jeans. Not his usual trench coat, no. Tonight, Cas was wearing a faded plaid flannel shirt, sleeves rolled to his elbows, a pair of well-worn boots, and a brown leather belt. The shirt fit him perfectly, stretched just a little across broad shoulders. His hair was a little mussed, like he'd either flown in fast or hadn't bothered to smooth it down.

Dean blinked. Once. Twice.

The corner of Cas's mouth tugged down in a near frown, his blue eyes flicking around at the crowd, all the people still laughing and calling things like "Nice costume!" and "Look at that, Dean's got a twin!"

Dean huffed a laugh despite himself. "Cas... what the hell are you wearin'?"

Cas tilted his head slightly. "A hunter costume," he said matter-of-factly. "Flannel. Denim. Sturdy boots. I... blended in."

Dean opened his mouth, but no sound came out for a second. Blended in. Jesus. He looked better in that outfit than Dean ever had in his entire damn life.

Behind them, Charlie wolf whistled again. "I gotta say, Winchester," she called out over the music, "he wears it better than you."

Dean flipped her off without taking his eyes off Cas. His beer hung forgotten at his side. Cas shifted, uncomfortable with the attention but standing firm in the doorway, like this was just another mission briefing.

Dean swallowed, his throat suddenly a little too dry for the amount of beer he'd had.

"Yeah," he finally muttered, trying to sound casual and failing miserably. "Yeah, you, uh... sure do."

Cas stepped a little closer, the sound of his boots soft against the concrete floor. The laughter behind them was already fading into the background, replaced by the low thump of classic rock and the hum of voices. Dean didn't move. He couldn't. Cas was standing in front of him looking like he'd just stepped out of Dean's damn closet, and the worst part was how normal it looked on him. Like it belonged.

Cas tilted his head, eyes flicking over Dean's face with that calm, unhurried patience that always managed to strip Dean down to the bone. "Why didn't you dress up?" he asked, genuinely curious.

Dean blinked at him. "What?"

"For the party," Cas clarified. "It's Halloween. Everyone else dressed up."

Dean snorted softly. "I am dressed."

Cas frowned just slightly, then his gaze drifted downward, over Dean's worn jeans, the belt buckle he'd had for years, the soft red and black plaid he'd thrown on without a second thought, and the scuffed brown boots.

Then Cas looked at his own outfit.

Then back at Dean.

For a second neither of them said anything, just stood there, matching flannel, matching jeans, boots that could've been cut from the same damn mold. Around them, the noise of the party blurred like background static.

Dean finally gave a half-shrug, lifting his beer again like it could hide the heat creeping up his neck. "Dunno," he muttered. "Didn't feel like it."

Cas didn't say anything right away. His brows pulled together just a touch, not in judgment, never in judgment, but in quiet consideration, like he was filing this little piece of information away somewhere safe.

"Then," Cas said finally, his voice soft but steady, "I suppose we match."

Dean choked on his drink. He covered it with a cough, muttering something about beer going down the wrong way, but Cas's lips twitched, the faintest hint of a smile threatening to give him away.

Dean swore the bunker felt ten degrees warmer.

He was just about to make some half assed joke to deflect the way Cas was still looking at him when Sam wandered over, a fresh beer in one hand and that infuriating little brother knows something smirk plastered across his face.

He grabbed a chair from the table, dragging it out with a loud scrape, but didn't sit right away. Instead, Sam leaned casually on the back of it, eyes sweeping over Dean... then Cas... then back to Dean again. His smirk widened.

Dean narrowed his eyes. "What?"

Sam lifted his brows innocently. "Oh, nothing."

"Uh-huh."

Sam took a slow sip of his drink, clearly enjoying himself far too much, then clapped Dean lightly on the shoulder as he started to walk away. "Nice shirt, by the way."

Dean spun halfway after him. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Sam didn't answer, just shrugged and disappeared back toward Charlie and the snack table, his cape swishing dramatically behind him.

Dean stood there, jaw tight, trying very hard not to look like someone who'd just been caught doing something. Cas was still at his side, watching Sam leave with that familiar tilted-head confusion.

"Why did he say 'nothing' when it's clearly something?" Cas asked earnestly.

Dean grumbled into his beer, looking anywhere but at Cas. "'Cause he's an ass, that's why."

Cas's brow furrowed a little more, and Dean could feel those blue eyes still fixed on him, unwavering and heavy in a way that made his stomach knot up. The air between them was warm, too warm, and Dean's collar suddenly felt too tight.

"I, uh—" Dean cleared his throat. "I need some air."

Before Cas could answer, Dean pushed off the table and walked toward the hallway. The noise of the party softened behind him as he passed under the archway, boots echoing faintly against the floor. He shoved his free hand in his pocket and focused on the quiet, the blessed, echoing quiet of the bunker's halls.

He didn't get far. Just a few turns down the corridor, away from the hum of laughter and clinking bottles. The bunker always had that echo when it was quiet, like the air carried every sound a little further than it should. He leaned against the wall, running a hand down his face and muttering under his breath.

"Stupid matching shirts. Stupid angel," he grumbled, almost too low to hear.

Almost.

The soft flutter of wings behind him made his stomach drop a little.

"Stupid... angel?"

Cas's voice was right there. Low. Careful. Not angry, exactly, but with a flicker of something Dean didn't hear often from him. It wasn't hurt, not fully. Just that quiet kind of confusion that always made Dean feel like a jackass.

Dean spun around a little too fast, nearly sloshing beer on himself. "Cas—hey, no, no, I didn't mean it like that."

Cas was standing a few feet away, hands at his sides, the flannel fitting him too well for Dean to think straight. His head was tilted the tiniest bit, brows drawn in a crease. "You said..."

"I know what I said," Dean cut in quickly, raising a hand. "I didn't mean it, alright? It's just—just me bein' an idiot."

Cas blinked, still watching him with that quiet, unsettling focus. It wasn't accusatory. It was worse. It was soft. Honest. Like Cas was trying to understand instead of judge.

Dean scrubbed his palm against the back of his neck. "I was talkin' to myself. You're not stupid. You're—" he waved his beer weakly, like it could fill in the blanks for him, "—you. You're Cas."

Cas took a step closer, the toe of his boot scuffing lightly against the floor. His expression eased, though the tilt of his head didn't quite go away. "I didn't think I was stupid," he said slowly, "but I didn't understand why you would say that."

Dean let out a breath somewhere between a laugh and a groan. "Yeah, well... I say a lotta dumb things when I'm tryin' not to think too hard."

Cas's brow knit tighter, as if trying to untangle whatever that meant. Dean held up a hand again, softer this time. "Look, Cas, I wasn't talkin' about you. I was talkin' about... me. The situation. Sam runnin' his mouth. Everybody laughin'. It's stupid."

"Why?" Cas asked, and that one word was quiet, gentle, but it landed square in Dean's chest.

Dean shifted on his feet, feeling like the hallway had shrunk two sizes around them. Cas was close enough now that Dean could smell the faint mix of cologne and something warm on him. The low light caught on his messy hair, made the edges of the flannel glow soft and golden.

"Because," Dean muttered finally, eyes flicking anywhere but Cas's face, "you walk in here wearin' my kind of clothes and suddenly everyone's got jokes. And you're standin' there lookin'..." he stopped himself short, jaw clenching. "...never mind."

Cas's brows pulled together a little tighter, the lines between them etched deep in the dim light. He shifted his weight, hands sliding out of his pockets like he wasn't quite sure what to do with them.

"If you'd prefer," Cas began carefully, "I can change into something else. I didn't mean to... upset you."

Dean's head snapped up. "What? No—Cas. No, that's not—" He shoved a hand through his hair, frustrated at himself, at the situation, at everything. "I didn't mean it like that."

Cas tilted his head just slightly, blue eyes steady on Dean. "But you don't like the jokes," he said softly. "If they bother you, I'll change. It's not important what I wear."

Before Dean could get another word out, Cas started to turn, boots making a soft sound on the floor as he headed toward the guest wing.

"Cas—no, hey—" Dean's voice came out rougher than he meant. He reached out instinctively, fingers curling around Cas's wrist before he even thought about what he was doing.

Cas stopped immediately. The hallway fell silent except for the distant thump of music from the party down the corridor.

Dean's hand tightened just slightly, warm against Cas's skin. Cas turned back to him, brows still drawn, expression unreadable in that way only he could manage.

Dean exhaled through his nose, chest rising and falling like he'd been holding that breath for a long time. "Don't," he said, softer now. "Don't change. That's not what this is about."

Cas blinked, confusion flickering across his face. "I don't understand."

Dean shifted closer, not too close, but enough that the space between them felt charged. He could smell Cas's cologne again. That faint, clean warmth that made his stomach twist.

"Cas," he started, voice a little shaky around the edges, "do you... do you know why they're makin' jokes?"

Cas tilted his head, blue eyes steady. He shook his head slowly. "No."

Dean huffed out a humorless laugh, scrubbing his free hand over his mouth. "Yeah. Didn't think so."

Cas's wrist was still warm beneath his fingers. He should've let go. He didn't.

The angel's head tilted a little more, blue eyes searching Dean's face. "Do you know why they're making jokes?" he asked carefully.

Dean's fingers flexed where they were still wrapped around Cas's wrist. His throat went dry. "Yeah," he muttered, barely above the hum of the hallway.

Cas blinked slowly. "Then... can you explain it to me?"

Dean's jaw worked. He looked anywhere but at Cas, down the corridor, at the old concrete walls, at the way the orange glow from the party barely reached this far. Anywhere that wasn't those blue eyes.

"Cas..." Dean sighed, long and heavy. He hadn't expected to be cornered by a flannel wearing angel on Halloween of all nights. "This ain't—" He stopped himself, biting the inside of his cheek.

Cas waited. Patient, silent. Always patient with him.

Dean huffed through his nose, like a man standing on the edge of something and knowing damn well the only way out is forward. "Yeah," he finally muttered, voice low. "Alright. Fine. I'll explain."

He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, still holding Cas's wrist without even realising it. His thumb brushed against warm skin, and it sent a stupid little spark up his arm that he ignored or tried to.

"They're makin' jokes," Dean started slowly, the words clumsy in his mouth, "because of how you walked in. Because of how you're dressed."

Cas frowned lightly. "I don't understand. I'm wearing what you usually wear."

"Yeah," Dean said, a little rougher. "Exactly."

Cas blinked at him, still not getting it. Of course he didn't. Cas was Cas, the guy who could face down Heaven itself without flinching but couldn't read a damn room to save his life.

Dean dragged a hand down his face. "They're laughin' because... well, because we look—" He swallowed hard, his throat suddenly tight. "the same. Like... a thing."

Cas tilted his head. "A thing?"

Dean's voice dropped, quiet and uneven. "Like we did it on purpose. Like... we're—" He exhaled again, shoulders tense. "Like we're together."

The words sat there in the air between them, hanging heavier than either of them knew what to do with.

Cas blinked, slow. His brow furrowed in thought. "Together," he repeated softly, like he was turning it over in his mouth.

Dean finally looked back at him then, meeting those piercing blue eyes. And God help him, Cas wasn't laughing. He wasn't flustered or weird about it. He was just looking at him, steady and calm, like Dean had said something worth listening to.

And that was worse. So much worse.

Cas's expression shifted, barely, but Dean caught it. The subtle pull in his brow, the way his voice lowered just a fraction when he finally spoke.

"But..." Cas said slowly, "we are not together. So why do these jokes bother you if they are untrue?"

Dean froze, his grip on Cas's wrist still there, warm and grounding but starting to feel like a live wire against his skin. His throat worked around a word that didn't quite want to come out.

Cas took a small step closer, his confusion not sharp or mocking, just quiet, genuine. It was always genuine with him. "Do you not like the idea?"

Dean's breath caught, the world narrowing to just the space between them. "What?"

Cas blinked at him, steady and unflinching. "The idea of being with me," he clarified, soft but direct in that way only he could be. "Would it be... bad?"

The question hit Dean right in the chest. Not because it was loud or demanding, but because Cas asked it like he meant it. Like he wasn't asking for a joke or reassurance. He was asking because he needed to know.

Dean's mouth opened, but no words came. His heart thudded hard against his ribs, and all at once the hallway felt too warm, too small. Cas stood there in his stupid flannel shirt, close enough that Dean could see the flecks of gold in his blue eyes, and he was asking the one question Dean didn't know how to answer cleanly.

"I—" Dean started, then cut himself off. His jaw clenched. He dragged his free hand over his mouth, buying himself time he didn't have.

Cas didn't move. Didn't push. Just watched him with that steady patience that had always undone him.

"It's not like that," Dean muttered finally, voice low and uneven. "I don't, it ain't about not likin' the idea. That's... not the problem."

Cas tilted his head a little, confusion softening into something else. Something quieter. "Then what is the problem?"

Dean exhaled, long and slow, like the air itself was dragging the truth out of him. "The problem's me," he said finally. "It's always me."

Cas's eyes softened. Just a little.

Dean's words hung there like smoke. The problem's me. They slipped out too honest, too raw. He hadn't planned to say it. But Cas... Cas never let things like that slide past unnoticed.

The angels row knit together, not in confusion this time, but something that looked a lot like quiet hurt. He stepped forward, not enough to crowd, but close enough that Dean could feel the warmth radiating from him.

"Dean," Cas said, steady and sure, "you are not a problem."

Dean blinked. Cas's voice wasn't sharp. It was gentle, like a hand smoothing down a jagged edge. But it still knocked the air out of him.

"Why," Cas continued, tilting his head slightly, "do you speak so little of yourself?"

Dean opened his mouth, but the only thing that came out was a soft, awkward sound. He didn't know how to answer that. No one ever asked him questions like that, not like that.

Cas didn't look away. He never did. His blue eyes were fixed on Dean like they were seeing everything he kept buried. "You think you're the problem," he said quietly. "But I don't."

Dean felt something twist deep in his chest, tight and hot and terrifying.

Cas took another half-step closer, their hands still joined, Dean's fingers still wrapped loosely around his wrist. He didn't pull away. Neither of them did.

"I would be..." Cas hesitated, not because he doubted his words, but because he wanted to choose them carefully. "Honored to be together with you."

Dean's heart stopped. Just stopped.

The words were soft, but they didn't waver. Cas didn't say things he didn't mean. Ever. And he'd just said that like it was the simplest truth in the world.

Dean's breath caught somewhere between his lungs and his throat. "Cas..." His voice cracked.

"Why is it so difficult for you to say it?" Cas asked, not accusingly, never that. It was just a quiet question, spoken like he genuinely didn't understand why the words that came so easily to him felt like barbed wire in Dean's mouth.

The hunter stared at him, every sharp edge of his defenses rattling. He could feel his pulse in his fingertips where they touched. His mouth opened, closed, opened again.

"Jesus, Cas," Dean finally whispered. "You don't— you can't just say stuff like that."

Cas's head tilted in that familiar, almost innocent way. "Why not? It's true."

Dean's heart slammed against his ribs like it was trying to escape. No one...no one, ever said things like that to him. Not like this. Not without hesitation. Not without conditions.

He was completely, utterly thrown.

Cas didn't hesitate. He lifted both hands slowly, as if Dean might spook, and cupped Dean's face in his palms. His thumbs brushed gently along the hunters stubbled cheeks, the warmth of his touch so steady, so sure, that it made Dean forget how to breathe.

"You are the strongest and bravest man I've ever known," Cas said, quiet but firm, as if stating a fact that couldn't be argued with. His thumbs kept stroking small, grounding circles against Dean's skin. "Don't let their jokes bother you. Just know that you don't embarrass me, Dean. Their jokes don't embarrass me."

Dean's chest clenched, and his breath hitched like it got stuck halfway out.

The angel's voice softened even further, something warm and utterly unshakable in it. "I'd be lucky to call you mine."

Dean's heart stuttered so hard it hurt. Castiel said it like it was easy, like it was the simplest thing in the world. Like it wasn't enough to shake Dean Winchester down to his bones. Cas never said things to fill silence. He said them because they were true.

And now he was standing there, holding Dean's face like it mattered, telling him something no one had ever said.

Cas tilted his head slightly, a small smile ghosting at the corner of his mouth. "Now," he said gently, "why don't we go back in there? I'll tell them to stop."

Dean couldn't breathe. His throat burned, his lungs felt too tight, and the world had narrowed down to two hands on his face and one stupidly, terrifyingly soft voice. He shook his head, whispering, "No. No... I don't want to go back."

Cas blinked, confused by the quiet panic threading through Dean's voice. "Why?" he asked softly.

Dean's lip trembled, just a little, just enough for Cas to notice. His hand lifted, almost on instinct, and pressed over Cas's where it rested against his cheek. His palm fit against Cas's knuckles like it had been meant to be there all along.

"Because," Dean whispered, voice cracked and uneven, "I can't just go back after you say something like that."

For a heartbeat, everything was still. The bunker seemed to fall away, the music distant, the party forgotten. It was just Cas and Dean and the weight of the words hanging between them like something holy.

Cas's eyes softened, not pity. Just that deep, quiet warmth that had always undone him. His thumb brushed gently against Dean's jaw, like he was trying to steady him.

Dean swallowed hard, the sound catching. "You can't just say stuff like that," he breathed. "Not like it's easy."

"But it is," Cas said simply. "It's the truth."

And that was exactly why Dean couldn't move. Couldn't breathe. Because for Cas, it was easy. And for Dean, it was everything.

The angel's hands stayed cradling Dean's face, warm and steady, like they were holding him together. His gaze dropped to Dean's mouth for the briefest second before flicking back up to his eyes. Then he leaned in slowly, carefully, like he was giving Dean every single chance in the world to pull away.

Dean didn't.

The air between them trembled. Dean's pulse thundered in his ears, and he swore Cas's breath brushed his lips before they actually touched. It wasn't rushed. It wasn't rough. Cas kissed him soft, gentle, like he'd thought about this a hundred times but wanted to get it right.

Dean's eyes fluttered shut. The warmth of Cas's mouth on his was grounding and overwhelming all at once. A shiver ran through him, right down to his fingertips. For a second, it was just their lips moving together, slow and careful, the kind of kiss that cracks something open inside you.

Then Cas pulled back, just enough to look at him. His thumbs were still brushing soft circles against Dean's jaw, his blue eyes wide and searching.

Dean was breathing like he'd just sprinted a mile, chest rising and falling hard. "You just..." His voice caught, shaky and rough. "You just kissed me."

Cas tilted his head slightly, the faintest smile ghosting across his lips. "Yes," he said quietly. "Is that okay?"

Dean stared at him. His heart was hammering so loud he was sure Cas could hear it. All that noise in his head, the doubt, the walls, the fear, it all cracked clean down the middle.

"Fuck," Dean breathed, half a laugh and half a prayer.

Then he moved.

His hands shot to Cas's flannel, fisting it in his grip as he spun them around, pressing Cas back against the cool bunker wall. The sound of Cas's back hitting the concrete was soft, but the way the angel's breath hitched was not. Dean's mouth crashed against his, years of tension and quiet yearning spilling out all at once.

This wasn't soft. It was desperate. Hungry. Cas let out a quiet sound into Dean's mouth, hands sliding up Dean's sides, gripping tight at his waist like he'd been waiting just as long. Dean kissed him like he'd been starving, like he'd spent years pretending he didn't want this, didn't need this.

Cas kissed him back just as fiercely.

Their hands roamed without hesitation, Dean's fingers sliding up the sides of Cas's neck, tangling in his hair, Cas's palms splaying against Dean's hips and dragging him closer until there wasn't a sliver of space left between them. Dean could feel Cas's heartbeat against his own, could feel every stuttered breath against his lips.

The hunter gasped against the angel's mouth, forehead pressing to his for just a heartbeat, as if to ground himself. His voice came out low, wrecked. "Jesus, Cas."

Cas's fingers tightened on his shirt, their breaths mingling, lips still brushing even as they hovered close. "I told you," Cas murmured softly, "it's easy."

The hunter let out a broken little laugh, then kissed him again, rougher this time, deeper, like every year of unsaid words was finally spilling out through touch.

"Yeah," Dean breathed against Cas's mouth, voice low and rough, his lips ghosting over Cas's like he couldn't bear to stop. "It's easy."

Then he kissed him again, harder this time. His tongue slid past Cas's lips, claiming the space without hesitation, tasting beer and warmth and Cas. Cas let out a small, startled sound against Dean's mouth, but he didn't pull away. He opened up for him, kissing him back with something that wasn't practiced but fierce, like instinct.

Dean's hands slid down from Cas's jaw, over the line of his throat, and under the hem of his flannel. The skin beneath was hot, smooth, and alive. The second Dean's palms splayed against Cas's bare waist, he gasped, a sharp little breath that vibrated against Dean's tongue.

That tiny sound was enough. Cas's hands moved too, one gripping the back of Dean's shirt, the other sliding under the fabric like he was asking permission with every touch. Dean didn't stop him. Didn't want to. The feel of Cas's hands on his skin sent a shiver straight through him, the kind that left his knees a little weak.

They moved against each other, pressed hard to the wall, every kiss rougher and messier than the last. Dean bit at Cas's bottom lip, earning a soft, unsteady groan that made his stomach twist tight. Cas wasn't passive, not even close. He kissed back like he'd wanted this for a long time. Like he'd waited.

Dean ground against him without thinking, his hips finding that perfect, desperate rhythm. His breath hitched as friction sparked white hot through him. "Cas," he groaned, half-laughing into the kiss, "I'm—fuck—I'm hard."

Cas blinked at him, cheeks flushed pink, lips kiss-swollen, and managed to say in that perfectly serious, painfully Cas way, "I am... experiencing the same feeling."

Dean barked out a breathless laugh, forehead pressing against Cas's. "Of course you'd say it like that," he muttered, grin crooked and hungry.

Their breaths mingled, warm and fast. Dean could feel Cas's heartbeat against his chest, both of them pinned to the wall like gravity itself didn't matter. His hands slid up Cas's sides again, dragging the flannel higher. Cas leaned in, their noses brushing, and it hit Dean just how much he wanted this. How long he'd wanted it.

Dean's voice dropped to a husky whisper. "You wanna..." he swallowed, heat licking at the edges of the moment, "you wanna go to my room?"

Cas didn't even blink. "Yes."

And Dean was pretty damn sure he'd never moved faster in his life.

He didn't give Cas a chance to change his mind, not that the angel ever would have. He caught Cas by the wrist again, fingers warm and sure, and started dragging him down the hallway. They stumbled a little, laughing into half-kissed breaths, Cas letting himself be pulled along without hesitation.

Dean's heart was hammering so hard he could feel it in his fingertips. Every step, every brush of Cas's knuckles against his, only made the heat worse, deeper, like a current he couldn't fight if he tried.

They burst through the door to Dean's room without a second thought. The light was dim, a single lamp in the corner casting everything in a soft golden glow. The place was exactly what Dean expected it to be: cluttered. A couple of empty beer bottles lined the nightstand. There were shirts on the chair. Jeans on the floor. A tangle of socks, flannel, and worn-in leather boots by the bed.

Dean froze halfway into the room, the sudden spike of self-consciousness hitting him like a brick. "Uh—" He rubbed the back of his neck and cleared his throat. "Sorry 'bout the mess. I wasn't exactly plannin' on... y'know. This."

Cas barely glanced at the chaos. His eyes were fixed on Dean, only Dean. "I don't care," he said simply.

Before Dean could stammer out another word, Cas pushed him. Not hard, but firm enough that Dean fell back onto the mattress with a soft thud, landing right on top of a pile of his own crumpled laundry.

He barely had time to laugh at the ridiculousness of it before Cas climbed up after him, straddling his hips like it was the most natural thing in the world. His knees sank into the bed on either side of Dean's thighs, his hands braced against Dean's chest, and then, Cas kissed him again.

This kiss wasn't slow. It wasn't cautious. It was hungry. Deep. Messy. Years of wanting, pressed between two warm bodies and a mattress that creaked under their weight. Dean's hands found Cas's hips, gripping tight through the flannel as the angel leaned over him, kissing him like he wanted to memorise every breath.

The room smelled like whiskey, soap, and them. Cas's hands slid from Dean's chest to the sides of his neck, holding him steady like he needed Dean right where he was. Dean groaned against his mouth, arching up into him, pulling Cas closer, closer until their chests were flush, until the rest of the world didn't matter.

Neither of them thought to close the door. It hung open behind them, the faint thump of party music drifting down the hall, distant and hazy like a memory. In here, it was just breath and heat and hands pushing fabric out of the way like it had no right to be between them.

Dean gasped against Cas's mouth, hips grinding up again, and Cas answered without hesitation, matching him, pushing down into him, swallowing Dean's soft curses like they belonged to him.

The hunter didn't care about the mess anymore. Not with Cas above him, hair mussed, lips swollen, blue eyes burning like they'd finally stopped pretending.

Cas's kisses grew hotter, rougher, but there was a care threaded through every movement, like every touch meant something. Dean's hands roamed over Cas's sides, bunching the flannel at his waist until he couldn't take it anymore.

He broke the kiss with a gasp, his forehead still pressed to Cas's. "Get this off," he rasped, tugging at the fabric between them.

Cas nodded or maybe he didn't even need to. He sat back just enough to grab the hem of the flannel and pull it up over his head in one clean motion. The shirt hit the floor with a soft rustle, and Dean's breath caught.

It wasn't like he hadn't seen Cas shirtless before, hunts, patching wounds, emergencies, but this was different. This wasn't battlefield necessity. This was Cas choosing to bare himself to Dean. Warm light from the lamp caught on the lines of his chest, the muscles under his pale skin, the soft rise and fall of his breathing.

Dean's hands hovered for a moment, almost reverent, before he touched him. He slid his palms slowly up Cas's stomach to his chest, fingertips tracing over warm skin, every small movement drawing a new shiver out of Cas. Dean swallowed hard, his voice quiet, roughened to something close to awe. "I always wanted to see you like this."

Cas tilted his head slightly, the way he always did when something sincere caught him off guard. His lips parted, eyes soft and blazing at the same time. "I've dreamt of your naked body," he said simply.

Dean's breath hitched like a punch to the ribs. "Jesus, Cas..." he whispered, the words wrecked and disbelieving, but his hands didn't stop moving. They slid down Cas's chest, across the soft curve of his stomach, thumbs brushing along the sharp lines of his hips.

Cas shivered beneath the touch but didn't flinch away. Instead, his hands went to Dean's shirt, tugging it up impatiently. Dean let out a short, breathy laugh and sat up just enough to pull it over his head. It landed somewhere on the floor with the flannel.

Cas's hands were on him immediately, slow, curious, like he was mapping every inch of Dean's skin. His thumbs pressed into the muscles of Dean's stomach, sliding upward, tracing the scars like they were holy things. It wasn't rushed. It was worship.

Dean's heart slammed against his ribs. Nobody had ever touched him like that, like he wasn't something broken to be tolerated. Cas was looking at him like he was something to be kept.

Dean let out a soft groan, tilting his head back as Cas's mouth found his collarbone, kissing a path down his neck, across his chest. It wasn't hurried. It was intentional. Cas kissed every inch like he'd thought about it a thousand times, because he had.

Their jeans rubbed together, hot and tight, and every brush of skin just made Dean burn more. His fingers found the waistband of Cas's jeans and tugged, urging him down against him again. Cas followed without hesitation, their bodies pressing together, skin to skin where their shirts used to be.

Dean let out a shaky laugh against Cas's ear. "You're gonna kill me," he whispered.

Cas's voice was low, serious in the way only he could make sound devastating. "I want to know every part of you."

The hunters breath hitched again, his hands sliding lower, both of them caught in the heat of it, like the world outside the half-open door didn't even exist.

Once their jeans hit the floor and the last layers of fabric were stripped away, they were just skin and breath, heat pressed against heat. Cas hovered over Dean, eyes burning with something that felt like it had been buried for years. It snapped between them, sharp and undeniable, and Dean didn't even try to hide how bad he wanted it.

Cas pushed him back into the sheets, kissing down his chest, open mouthed and hungry. Each kiss left a trail of heat that made Dean's skin twitch beneath him. When Cas's tongue dragged up the length of his cock, Dean's breath hitched hard, a raw "Fuck" ripping out of him before he could hold it in.

Cas wrapped his lips around him slow, deliberate, like he wanted to carve the taste into memory. His hand slid lower, cupping Dean's balls, rolling them gently as his mouth worked him in steady, unhurried strokes. The slow drag of his tongue, the slick suction, it all made Dean's hips jerk up, a broken sound leaving his chest.

But Cas didn't stay slow. Hunger crept in. His rhythm picked up, mouth sliding deeper, wetter, taking more of Dean with each pass. The hand at Dean's balls squeezed firmer, thumb circling over sensitive skin, and soon the soft sounds between them turned into something wet and obscene.

He pushed lower, his throat opening up to take Dean all the way until his nose brushed the base. Drool slipped down the corner of his mouth, slicking Dean's skin as he pulled back just enough to mouth at his balls, licking and sucking before sinking down again.

Dean's hands clawed at the sheets, chest heaving, every breath breaking on a moan. "F-fuck, Cas," he panted, body shaking beneath the weight of it.

Then his hips started to move, just a little at first, testing, meeting Cas's pace. But the wetter it got, the sloppier it sounded, the more Dean gave in. His hand tangled in Cas's hair, tight and sure, guiding him.

"Yeah... just like that," he groaned, voice rough and wrecked. "Open up for me, angel. Fuck... been thinkin' about this for years. How good that mouth would feel wrapped around me."

His thrusts grew deeper, needier, his control slipping as his grip tightened in Cas's hair. "Look at you," he panted, staring down at the sight of Cas on his knees between his legs. "Takin' my cock like it's what you were made for. My pretty fuckin' angel."

Cas moaned around him, the sound muffled and desperate, sending a shudder through Dean. The angel ground down against the mattress, cock dragging against the sheets, chasing friction. His breaths came in short, shaky bursts, but he didn't stop, he took Dean deeper, let him set the pace, swallowed him down until it was nothing but heat and filth and want.

Dean's words spilled out between gasps, filthier with every breath. "You love this, huh? Love suckin' my cock. Gonna make you swallow every drop, Cas. Every. Fucking. Drop."

Cas moaned again, hips rolling harder into the bed, lost in the sound of Dean's voice and the weight of him on his tongue, devoted, desperate, wrecked. And Dean, looking down at him, thought he'd never seen anything more perfect.

Dean's breathing was a mess, breaking apart in short, harsh bursts. Every thrust into Cas's mouth got wetter, filthier, the sound alone enough to send him spiraling. His fingers twisted tighter in Cas's hair as his hips bucked upward, chasing every ounce of heat Cas was giving him.

"Fuck, Cas," Dean groaned, voice cracking as his control slipped through his fingers. "I'm—shit—I'm close."

He shifted, rolling onto his side in a single desperate motion, dragging Cas with him. The angel ended up between his legs, framed perfectly, his mouth still wrapped around Dean's cock. The hunters hands gripped his hair on either side of his head as he started to thrust in steady, deep strokes, fucking Cas's throat without hesitation. It was raw, messy, and completely unrestrained.

And Cas took it. He opened up for Dean like he was made for this, eyes fluttering shut, hands gripping Dean's thighs to steady himself. Every time Dean pushed deeper, Cas relaxed his throat to take him in, a soft hum vibrating against Dean's skin. The sight of him like this, obedient, hungry, beautiful, made Dean's stomach clench.

Dean's voice fell into a rough growl. "Yeah... that's it. Take it, angel. Fucking take it. My mouth. My fuckin' throat. Gonna make you swallow it all."

It only took a few more thrusts before Dean came apart, hips jerking forward as a deep, broken sound tore from his chest. He buried himself all the way down Cas's throat, trembling as he spilled into his mouth, heat flooding between them.

Cas didn't move. He stayed there with Dean buried deep, holding it in his mouth like he wanted to keep the moment, keep the taste. His eyes were half-lidded, a quiet, a reverent hum spilling from his throat as he finally swallowed, slow and deliberate.

When he pulled off, a slick strand still connected his lips to Dean, and he didn't hesitate. Cas leaned in and kissed him, soft, hot, and dirty. Dean groaned against his mouth, shuddering as Cas licked into him, letting him taste himself on Cas's tongue.

"You taste sweet," Cas murmured against his lips, voice wrecked and low.

Dean's only answer was another groan, his hand fisting in the back of Cas's hair as the kiss deepened. It was slow, filthy, and perfect, his taste on Cas's tongue, the angel's warmth against his skin, and the quiet, breathless way the world narrowed down to just the two of them.

Dean's chest was still rising and falling hard when Cas kissed him again. It was slow at first, hot and sticky, their mouths sliding together, the taste of Dean still lingering on Cas's tongue. Dean groaned into it, the sound low and rough, and reached blindly toward the nightstand without breaking the kiss. His fingers fumbled in the drawer until they hit something cool and familiar.

He pulled back just enough to breathe, the slick click of a cap cutting through the quiet as he squeezed a generous amount of lube into his palm. Cas tilted his head, brows furrowing slightly as he watched. "What are you doing?" he asked, voice thick and a little wrecked.

Dean didn't answer. He just reached between them, wrapping his slick hand around Cas's cock. The sound Cas made wasn't angelic, it was a sharp, startled moan that punched the air right out of Dean's lungs. The hunter stroked him slow, working the lube over every inch, watching Cas's pupils blow wide, his hips twitching involuntarily.

"Dean..." Cas breathed, the sound drawn out, half a plea.

"Yeah," Dean rasped, pulling him closer. He shifted onto his back, spreading his legs, and grabbed Cas by the hips, guiding him down until their bodies were aligned. Cas's cock nudged against his entrance, slick and hot, and Dean's breath hitched at the first press of it.

Cas froze, hands braced on either side of Dean, chest heaving. "Are you sure?" he asked, voice quiet and raw, as if part of him couldn't believe this was real.

Dean's answer wasn't with words. He reached down, wrapped a hand around Cas, and pushed. The head of Cas's cock slipped inside, hot and thick, and Dean's back arched off the mattress with a shaky moan.

"Jesus," Dean gasped, nails digging into Cas's skin.

Cas's breath stuttered out of him like it was ripped from his chest. For a heartbeat, he didn't move, just felt Dean around him, tight and perfect and so goddamn warm. And then something inside him snapped loose.

He started to move.

It wasn't careful. It wasn't slow. It was desperate, the kind of hunger that had been building for years, spilling out all at once. Cas rocked into him, hips rolling forward, deeper and deeper, every thrust dragging a sound out of Dean that made Cas shudder. His hands slid to Dean's waist, holding him still as he set the pace, buried in him to the hilt.

Dean met him with every push, head thrown back, eyes squeezed shut, a wrecked sound leaving his throat with each thrust. Cas's control slipped fast; every inch of Dean around him was too much, too good, too perfect to stop.

"Cas," Dean groaned, voice broken and breathless.

And Cas fucked him like it was the only thing in the world that made sense.

He pushed deeper, hips rolling into Dean with a rhythm that grew rougher and needier with every thrust. Their bodies were slick with sweat, skin sticking together, breaths spilling out in messy gasps. He hovered over Dean at first, fucking into him hard and steady, but then something in him broke loose completely.

With a ragged moan, Cas let himself fall forward, his weight pressing Dean into the mattress. His chest slid against Dean's, skin on skin, heat to heat, as his hips kept moving, short, desperate thrusts that punched breath from both of them. He started to grind into him now, fucking and humping at the same time, like he couldn't get close enough.

Dean's arms wrapped around him instinctively, one hand sliding up the slick line of Cas's back. His fingers traced the tense muscles moving under his touch, and the sound he made wasn't a moan anymore, it was a growl, low and hoarse. "Yeah... that's it," he breathed against Cas's ear, voice hot and heavy. "Fuck, Cas. You're doin' so good. Feels so fuckin' good, fillin' me up so deep."

Cas whimpered, the sound breaking against Dean's throat. His hips snapped forward harder, more erratic, like praise alone was enough to unravel him.

Dean's other hand slid down to Cas's ass, pulling him in, making him thrust deeper. "Good boy," Dean murmured, the words spilling out between shaky breaths. "That's it, angel. Make yourself feel good. Don't hold back."

Cas's rhythm faltered for a second, then picked up again, rougher now, pure instinct driving him. His forehead dropped to Dean's shoulder, mouth open, panting against his skin as he pushed into him over and over, the head of his cock hitting deep inside, making Dean gasp each time.

Dean tilted his head, pressing a messy kiss to Cas's temple, voice low and wrecked. "Yeah... fuck me just like that. Use me. Feels so good when you move like that."

Cas let out a choked sound, half moan, half groan, and ground into him harder, rutting against him like he couldn't stop if he tried. His hands slid beneath Dean, gripping his waist so tightly Dean knew there'd be marks later, but he didn't care. He wanted to feel all of it.

Dean's hands roamed Cas's back, scratching lightly down his spine, coaxing him, praising him through every thrust. "That's it. That's my good boy. Make it good for you. All the way."

And Cas did. He lost himself completely in Dean's body, in the way Dean held him, in the sound of his name gasped into the dark like a prayer.

He was unraveling fast. Every thrust was rougher, needier, pure instinct and hunger taking the wheel. His hips snapped forward in desperate, sloppy rhythm, his breath coming in hot, broken gasps against Dean's skin. His whole body was shaking with it, chasing that feeling like it was the only thing that mattered.

"Dean..." His voice cracked, raw and wrecked, nothing like the calm, steady angel it usually was.

Dean knew that sound. He felt Cas's body straining, chasing the high, so he tightened his grip around him, fingers digging hard into the soft flesh of Cas's ass, pulling him deeper with every thrust. "Yeah," Dean rasped, his voice low and rough. "I know. You need it, don't you? Fucking need it."

Cas whimpered into Dean's neck, his hips grinding faster, losing any rhythm he'd started with.

Dean spit into his hand without thinking, slicking up his fingers, and reached behind Cas. He found him easily, hot and tense, and slid one finger inside. Cas gasped like he'd been struck, his whole body jerking forward as the sensation hit him.

"Fuck! Dean," he groaned, louder now, no control left.

Dean worked him open slowly, fingering him as Cas fucked him, and the effect was instant. Cas's thrusts went wild, hard, deep, messy, his voice spilling out in shameless, desperate sounds. The room was full of it now: the slap of skin, the wet sound of Dean fingering him, Cas's breathless moans.

"Good boy," Dean breathed against his ear, his voice wrecked and soft at the same time. "That's it. Fuck, just like that. Cum for me, Cas. Come on, angel, let go."

That broke him.

Cas's whole body seized, hips slamming forward as his orgasm ripped through him hard. He came deep inside Dean with a loud, guttural moan, shaking against him as heat spilled between them. But it didn't stop there, his body kept moving, twitching, fucking through it. He gasped out Dean's name as another wave crashed over him, then another, trembling and moaning through every pulse of it.

Dean held him close through it all, one hand still buried against his ass, the other tangled in Cas's hair as Cas came undone on top of him, shaking, sweaty, perfect.

When Cas finally stilled, his breaths were sharp and uneven, body still twitching from the aftershocks. Dean cupped the back of his head and pulled him down into a kiss.

It wasn't gentle. It was deep and messy, all heat and teeth and everything they couldn't say out loud. Cas melted into it, still trembling, and Dean moaned against his mouth, their bodies slick and warm and pressed together like they belonged there.

Dean lay there on his back, chest still heaving, skin damp and hot beneath Cas's weight. The angel was draped over him, still catching his breath, little tremors running through his body every now and then as the aftershocks faded. Dean slid a hand up Cas's back, slow and lazy, fingers tracing the damp skin. It felt like the world had narrowed down to the soft press of their bodies, the warmth between them, and the sound of their breathing evening out.

Dean let out a breathless laugh, voice still rough from moaning. "Jesus, Cas," he rasped, grinning up at the ceiling. "That was... fuck. That was the best sex I've ever had."

Cas lifted his head slightly, his hair mussed and his lips pink and swollen from kissing. His cheeks were flushed, soft, almost shy and yet there was this glow in his eyes Dean had never seen before. "It's the only sex I've ever had," Cas said honestly, voice low but warm. Then, after a beat, "But... it was the best for me too."

Dean barked out a laugh, rough and real, tilting his head back against the pillow. "Damn right it was," he teased, but there was something softer underneath it, something that made his chest ache in the best way. He slid his hand down, cupping Cas's jaw gently. "And just so we're clear... you better not be plannin' on doin' this with anyone else."

Cas blinked at him, eyes wide and honest. Dean swallowed, his grin faltering into something quieter, more vulnerable. "Yeah, Cas," he murmured. "I wanna be with you. Not just like this. I mean... us. Together."

For a second, Cas just looked at him, really looked, and something in his expression softened, cracked open. Then he smiled. A real, unguarded smile. It hit Dean like a punch to the chest.

Cas leaned down and kissed him, slow and sure. When he pulled back, their foreheads stayed pressed together, breaths mingling. "Me too," Cas whispered, voice steady and full of something fierce and gentle all at once.

Dean laughed quietly, his hand slipping to the back of Cas's neck to pull him in again. This time, the kiss wasn't messy or desperate, it was soft and certain, the kind of kiss that felt like a promise.

He lay there for a long moment, just breathing him in. Cas was sprawled across his chest like he belonged there, all warm weight and steady heartbeat. The room smelled like sweat and sex, the air still thick with it. Dean's fingers traced idle, slow patterns across Cas's back, no rush, no pressure, just touch for the sake of touching.

Eventually, Dean pressed a soft kiss to Cas's temple. "Hey," he murmured, voice rough but gentle now. "C'mon, angel. Let's get cleaned up a little."

Cas made a soft sound, somewhere between a hum and a sigh, but he didn't move right away. Dean chuckled under his breath, brushing his knuckles down the nape of Cas's neck. "Yeah, I know. Feels good. But I don't wanna glue us together, sweetheart."

That made Cas huff out a quiet laugh against his chest before he finally sat up, slow and clumsy, still a little dazed. Dean followed, grunting as his sore muscles protested, and reached for the tissues on the nightstand. He cleaned them both up carefully, no teasing now, just soft hands and quiet breaths. Cas watched him the whole time, head tilted, that gentle, curious look back in his eyes.

Once they were wiped down, Dean tossed the tissues aside and grabbed the old hoodie draped over the chair. He pressed it into Cas's hands. "Here," he said softly. "It's warm."

Cas slipped it on without question. It hung too big on him, the sleeves almost swallowing his hands, but the way he tucked his nose into the collar made Dean's chest ache. Dean pulled the blanket up over them both and coaxed Cas down onto his chest again, wrapping an arm around him and stroking lazy circles over his spine.

"You okay?" Dean asked quietly, tipping his chin down so his lips brushed the top of Cas's head.

Cas nodded against him, voice low and certain. "Yes. I feel... safe."

Dean's heart twisted in his chest. He kissed the top of Cas's head again, whispering, "Good. That's what I want."

For a while, they lay there in silence, soft breaths, shared warmth, the quiet hum of something steady settling between them. Dean could feel Cas's heartbeat through the fabric of his hoodie, slow and even. Cas's fingers rested against Dean's chest, curling loosely like he couldn't quite let go.

Dean tightened his hold around him just a little, letting his lips brush Cas's hairline. "You did good, y'know," he whispered. "So fuckin' good."

Cas's breath caught softly, and he tilted his head just enough to meet Dean's gaze. His cheeks were still flushed, but his eyes were clear now, steady and soft. "So did you," he whispered back, almost shy.

Dean smiled, small, real, and easy. He didn't need to say anything else. He just pulled Cas closer, and they stayed there tangled up together, warm and safe in the quiet.

Later that night, the bunker had gone quiet, the only sounds left were the soft hum of the old pipes and the faint creak of floorboards settling. Dean was out cold, sprawled on his back, his arm still wrapped around Cas like he'd instinctively pulled him close even in sleep.

Cas lay against him, head tucked on Dean's chest, the blanket pulled high around them. His eyes were closed, but he wasn't asleep. Angels didn't sleep. He was just... still. Listening. He could feel every rise and fall of Dean's chest beneath his cheek, hear every steady beat of his heart like a quiet rhythm meant only for him. The warmth, the weight of the blanket, the faint smell of sweat and skin, it was peaceful in a way Cas wasn't sure he'd ever felt before.

The door creaked softly.

Sam stood in the doorway, still dressed in his ridiculous vampire costume from the party. His fake fangs were slightly crooked now, his cape dragging on the floor. He hadn't expected to find much, maybe Dean snoring, maybe the room empty, but what he saw instead made him stop in his tracks.

Dean was fast asleep, face soft and unguarded for once. Cas lay still in his arms, eyes closed, looking just as content as someone who actually could sleep. The room was bathed in warm lamplight, quiet and safe, a moment that felt so far removed from everything else in their lives.

Sam's lips curved into a small, private smile. He nodded to himself, almost like he'd been waiting for this.

"Finally," he whispered, barely audible.

Cas heard it, of course, but he didn't move. He kept his eyes closed, breathing slow to match Dean's, letting Sam have the moment.

Sam stepped back, careful not to make a sound, and gently pulled the door shut.

When the soft click echoed through the room, Cas finally opened his eyes. Dean was still fast asleep, hand curled loosely against his back. Cas tilted his head slightly, watching him for a long, quiet moment. A small smile ghosted across his lips, something unspoken but certain.

Then he settled back against Dean's chest, letting the steady beat of his heart fill the silence. For once, Cas didn't need to move. He was exactly where he wanted to be.
