Buck hates flying. This wasn’t new information. He had been crushed by a ladder truck, struck by lightning, met death more times to count, been left by people. But the thought of stepping foot on a plane makes him very uneasy. And Eddie, of course, knew this. It was his idea to drive anyway. Buck would’ve gotten on a plane if he had to, despite the fear that floods him at the thought of doing so. But Eddie insisted they drive for Buck's comfort, which Buck was very grateful for.
The drive to Nashville had been good, them queuing music, switching every few hours. The firefighter games had been great! They won, getting congrats from the 113. Everything was fine. Until it wasn’t.
It was a known, unspoken fact between the two of them that there had been tension. Heavy and unspoken words and feelings. Neither of them were very good at expressing how they felt, unless it was with each other. They had always been each other's safe spaces. Until they weren’t. The tension had grown so thick that they couldn’t even have those kinds of conversations anymore. This was the first time it was just the two of them in a while. They still noticed small things about each other, body language, tone, eye contact, faces, all of it had still been so normal to them. Something that neither of them could ever forget. This is how Buck realized something was… off about Eddie.
Since Eddie had come back from Texas for good, Buck noticed he was different. Lighter, like he had just accepted something he never thought he could. And Buck just couldn’t put his finger on what it was. And Eddie wouldn’t tell him. Didn’t bring it up in conversations, or at all. Which kinda hurt Buck. All Buck wanted was the type of relationship they had before everything collapsed.
As soon as they got into the car, driving the miles to Nashville, it had felt like all the tension just disappeared. Like Buck had finally gotten his best friend back. And that held out all the way until they got back into the car, going back to LA. The tension was back, for reasons Buck doesn’t know.
They would bicker about little things, things that wouldn’t have been a big deal two years ago. It would’ve turned into playful banter or Eddie giving into whatever Buck wanted without a second thought.
And quite frankly, Buck was pissed off. And clearly so was Eddie.
“What’s wrong with you?” Buck asks from the passenger side, looking right out the windshield towards where the sun was starting to set.
“Nothing, Buck. I’m fine.” Eddie replied, looking straight ahead at the blank road, where they hadn’t seen a glimpse of life in hours.
“Don’t give me that half-assed bullshit. Seriously, man. Since we got back in the car after the games ended, you’ve been off. Even before that! Before we left. Since you got back, you’ve been off and you won’t tell me why!” Buck argued back, turning his head to look at Eddie, who in return keeps looking ahead.
“I have not.” His voice is laced with annoyance.
“Oh whatever.”
“You don’t know what you're talking about.” And that one stung just a bit. “I’m not gonna start another argument with you just because you think I’m acting differently.”
“Eddie, I know you better than anyone. I know when you act differently.”
“Maybe you don’t know me as well as you thought.” And with that the conversation ends. Those words hurt Buck most of all. Of course he knows Eddie.
They keep driving in absolute silence, except for the faint music coming from the radio. They’re both pissed off, Buck for Eddie not just talking to him, and Eddie is for God knows what, because Buck sure as hell doesn’t. What could be so serious that Eddie won’t even fucking talk to him? Has Buck done something wrong? Does Eddie, now all of a sudden hate Buck? He wouldn’t know because Eddie won’t fucking talk to him.
“Look, if I did something wrong, you can tell me.” Buck breaks the silence.
“You didn’t do anything wrong.” And Buck wants to believe him. He really does. But he doesn’t think he can. And they are now back in silence. Buck looks out the window at the setting sun, wishing he could disappear as easily as the sun can. Just leave and come back later. But it’s never that easy is it? He just has to sit in the car, in silence filled with tension, envying the sun.
He looks over at Eddie, noticing the tightness in his shoulders and pasture, noting the way he has a white grip knuckle on the wheel, staring straight ahead. Yeah, no Buck definitely did something. He doesn’t know what. He was his normal self. Maybe that’s the problem. Maybe Eddie finally realized who Buck really is. Maybe he finally saw how obnoxious and loud he was and now he is sick of it. Of him. Maybe Eddie is tired of him and will leave him for good this time. Just like everyone else. Realized that he’s no good and it’s time to find another best friend. Probably Hen. They’ve been pretty close recently, a hell of a lot closer than him and Buck.
“You hungry?” Eddie asks, and it’s such a simple question. Buck shakes his head, muttering a small ‘no not really.’ and leaving it at that.
“Oh, come one Buck. You haven’t eaten since breakfast.” He glances at Buck and now it’s Buck’s turn to stare straight ahead.
“I’m fine.” And isn’t that the biggest lie he’s ever told? Eddie breathes out an angry sigh, but pushes no further.
“It’s getting late and I’m tired. I saw a sign for a motel a few miles ahead.” Eddie says, low and controlled. Buck grunts a response, not having the energy to somehow start another fight.
Buck is very aware of how he feels about Eddie. About wanting something more then just friends or whatever the fuck they were now. He knows that he is in love with him, as has been since he can remember, despite the realization coming much later. The cliche, bisexual falling in love with his straight best friend. Sad, right? Pathetic even. How could he be such a fool? Falling in love with the one person he can never have.
They hear a pop and the truck shakes, uneven on the road, that snaps Buck out of his very sad thoughts. Eddie pulls the truck over to the shoulder of the road, putting it into park. He turns the car off, stepping out to assess the problem. And Buck follows right out after him, like it’s the only thing he knows. What they find is a very flat tire.
“Do you have a spare?” Eddis asks as he crouches down, meeting eye level with the tire.
“That is the spare.”
“Great. Just fucking great.” Eddie sighs, standing up opening the back door, pulling out the bags, tossing Buck’s at him. “Guess we’re walking. I’ll call a mechanic in the morning, it’s too late now, guaranteed there is nothing open.”
Buck nods, not saying anything to cause a fight, following Eddie down the side of the road.
The road stretches on for what seems like hundreds of miles. They finally arrive at the cheap, what seems like abandoned motel. It’s sketchy and kinda scary, as the sun has now fully set, the stars being the only light leading the way. They walk in and are greeted by a woman who is way too cheery.
“Well, hello there!” The woman greets, with a smile on her face. “What can I help you with tonight?”
“Uh, whatever's available.” Eddie says approaching the desk.
“Well we have got one room left tonight, queen bed.” she says, checking her computer.
Eddie glances at Buck for a confirmation that it is alright, and Buck shrugs knowing it’s their only option in a hundred mile radius. Eddie turns to the woman, with a smile.
“We’ll take it.”
Buck pulls out his wallet to pay, when Eddies places his hand on top of his, stopping him. “I got it, Buck. No biggie.”
Buck wants to protest, saying something like it’s not worth it to waste his money, and that he’s done enough on this whole trip, but decides against it, slowly putting his wallet back in his pocket.
“Well, don’t you two make a cute couple?” The woman says, handing them their key.
“Uh- we arent-” Buck starts but is cut off by Eddie.
“Thank you.” Eddie says instead, putting a hand on Buck’s waist. Buck’s breath hitches, but puts on a smile. They accept their key and walk to room 317. Eddie's hand stays on his waist while they walk, never once faltering, which makes Buck falter very hard, tripping over his own foot. Eddie’s grip tightens, holding him up before he can fall on his face.
“Careful there bud, don’t want you falling and ruining your pretty face now do we?” Eddie chuckles, helping him gain balance. Buck flushes, sending him a tight smile, before finding their door. They open it and, yup, one queen bed.
Normally this wouldn’t be such a big deal, seeing as they have shared before, multiple times. But with all the tension and feelings, it’s not as easy. Not now that Buck knows how he feels. Buck walks over to the bed, dropping his bag next to it, grabbing some clothes out of it.
“I’m taking a shower.” And with that he practically runs to the bathroom door, which isn’t that easy with a semi-hard on. He tries his best without making it obvious. He closes the door, leaning back against it letting out a heavy sigh. He needs to get his shit together and he needs to do it fast. And he is still pissed at Eddie. So why not have some fun with it? He turns the water on, taking his time getting it and starting to get washed.
He takes his time on purpose, hoping by the time Eddie gets in there is absolutely no hot water left. Is he a little petty? Yes, of course. Does he care? No, of course not.
“Buck, hurry up. You’re using all the hot water.” Eddie bangs on the door and Buck smirks.
“Nah, I’m good. The water is really nice.” He exaggerates it. It’s not that nice. It’s lukewarm at best, with shitty water pressure.
“You’re being an asshole on purpose.”
“Maybe.” And Eddie groans.
Suddenly the door swings open. Buck thinks nothing of it, thinking that Eddie is just getting closer so he can scold him better. But then the shower curtain slides open, revealing Eddie in nothing but a towel that is way too small.
“Eddie, what are you-” Eddie drops the towel. He’s naked. Of course he is. He meets eyes with Buck, filled with annoyance, pupils blown. He steps into the shower, never breaking eye contact. And the shower is small. Really small. And he can’t say the same for him and Eddie. Eddie steps under the water, it rolling down his body and Buck can’t help but follow the droplets with his eyes. It rolls all the way down his body and- Oh.
Eddie is hard. Very hard.
Buck’s breath stutters, looking back at Eddie's face, finding he was already looking at him, with a smug smirk on his face. He lathers himself in soap, letting it drip down his body. He turns around, ass facing Buck, moving his hands up to his hair, washing out soap. Eddie’s back muscles flex. Buck wants nothing more to grab onto his hips and fuck him againts the shower wall. He knows Eddie is trying to get him to break and he almost does. They are almost back to chest, cock to ass. Eddie pushes back slightly, the tip of Buck’s cock, sliding between Eddie’s ass cheeks ever so slightly. Buck bites back a moan, not wanting to break. But he wants to give in so bad. He almost does until Eddie pulls away after rinsing all the soap off.
He turns back around making eye contact with Buck once again, winking, and then stepping out of the shower, grabbing his towel, walking out the bathroom completely. Buck stands there dumbfounded. Did that really just happen? Maybe Eddie isn’t as mad at Buck as he thought. He stands there for a few more minutes, before turning the now cold water off, grabbing his towel wrapping it around his waist before following out the bathroom door.
He finds Eddie laying on the bed, towel still wrapped around his waist. He is clicking aimlessly through the tv channels until he looks at Buck.
“You good?” He asks. Oh, so he’s playing that game?
“No actually. I’m not.” His voice tries to come out strong, but instead it comes out strained.
“Oh? Why not? Did something happen?” He asks like it’s the most simple thing in the world.
“Did something happen- Eddie you just came into my shower, looking like a fucking god, and pressed your ass against my cock like you wanted me to fuck you. That’s what's wrong. Is that I almost just fucked you so hard against the wall.” He growls, stepping closer to the bed.
“Oh I did? Mh. Didn’t notice.” He looks back at the TV.
“Oh bullshit. Don’t do that.”
“Do what?”
“Act like you didn’t do anything. You know damn well what you did.” He is now right in front of the bed, blocking Eddie's view of the TV.
“You’re in the way.” He tries to look around Buck.
“I don’t give a fuck.” He reaches over, snatching the remote out of his hands, turning the TV off, then throwing the remote God knows where. He crawls up the bed, spreading Eddie's legs so he can hover over top of him.
Eddie looks up at him, grinning knowing exactly what he did. What he is currently doing. He grabs the back of Buck’s neck, pulling him down for a bruising kiss. It’s heated and messy. Full of lust. Buck kisses back, licking into Eddie’s mouth. He grinds his hips down into Eddies, their hard cocks rubbing through the fabric of the towels. They moan in unison into each other's mouths. Eddie reaches down, ripping both towels away so they are both fully naked. Their cocks rub together, their mouths and bodies saying everything without words.
“Fuck, Eddie did you bring lube?” Buck asks, breaking away from the kiss. Eddie nods, reaching over the side of the bed into his bag. He rummages around until he finds it, holding it out to Buck.
“You actually have it?” Buck asks, taking it from Eddie.
“Was hoping you’d wanna fuck me. Dreaming about this.” He says.
“Really?” Eddie nods. “Holy shit. You should’ve told me sooner. I would’ve fucked you awhile ago.”
“Stop thinking about what you could’ve done and do it now.” He drags Buck down by the back of his neck, bringing their lips back together.
“Wait Eddie- Are you sure? You’re-”
“Straight? Yeah, no. I’m not. In fact, I’m so gay that if you don’t fuck me I might just implode.” He rests his forehead against Buck’s. Buck takes a second, taking in this information.
“Well we can’t have that can we?” He grins, rolling his hips, their bare cocks rubbing together.
“Fuck- No. No we can’t. So get on with it.” He kisses Buck once more.
Buck, without breaking contact, opens the bottle, squeezing a generous amount out onto his fingers. He reaches his hand down between them, fingers tracing Eddie's rim. He pulls his head back to look at Eddie’s face when he slowly pushes one finger in. Eddie’s eyes flutter shut, mouth falling open with a soft breathy moan. He curls his fingers, brushing against Eddie’s prostate, Eddie letting out a louder moan.
“Look at me. Let me see those pretty eyes, baby.” Bucks whispers, Eddie eyes quickly meeting his. Blue meeting brown. Eddie smiles slightly up at him. Buck returns it.
Buck adds another finger, keeping up his movements, scissoring him open, brushing that bundle of nerves every time. After the third finger, Eddie is wiggling underneath him, needing more.
“I need more, Buck.” He grunts.
“What do you need, baby. Tell me.” He curls all his fingers.
“I-Fuck-I need you to fuck me. Please.” He pleads, looking up at Buck. And how could Buck ever resist those beautiful eyes?
Buck pulls his fingers out, much to Eddie groans at the lack of Buck. Buck quickly shushes him, before lubing himself up. He positions himself in between Eddie’s legs. He looks up at Eddie, who quickly nods, before pushing in slowly. Buck groans at the sensation of Eddie around him. Eddie grips onto Buck’s shoulders, squeezing his eyes shut, getting used to the feeling.
“Eyes, baby, eyes.” Eddie immediately complies, looking back up at Buck. “Good.”
Buck slowly starts to move, at a steady, controlled pace. Buck hits a certain spot that Eddie groans loud at.
“Found it?”
“Found it.”
And with that Buck speeds up, hitting that spot dead on with every thrust. That room is filled with the sounds of skin hitting, grunts, and the sweet sweet sounds of Eddie slowly falling apart underneath of him. Buck leans down, connecting their lips as he continues to fuck Eddie hard and fast. It’s barely even a kiss, it’s more of mouths connected as they fill the rest of the space with moans and grunts.
“Fuck, cariño. I’m so close.” Eddie moans into Buck’s mouth who nods in agreement.
“Me too, baby. Come on, cum for me.” He continues his brutal pace.
Eddie’s back arches off the bed as he comes with a moan into Buck’s mouth, white stripes covering his stomach. Buck’s not far behind him, coming into Eddies, riding them both through their orgasms.
He slows there and stays for a moment, before pulling out, rolling to lay next to Eddie. They lay there in silence, taking in everything that just happened.
They just had sex.
Buck just fucked his best friend. The best friend who he thought was straight up until about 10 minutes ago.
Does Eddie feel the same as Buck? Is it not just all in his head? Or was Eddie just pent up, and needed a release?
“So..” Buck starts.
“So.”
“Did we just-?” Buck gesture between them.
“Yes, cariño. We did.” He turns his head to look at Buck, still dazed.
“Okay. Cool. Cool cool cool. Amazing. Not life altering at all.” Buck doesn’t dare look at Eddie, instead opting for the ceiling.
“Do you… Regret it?” Eddie’s voice is full of questions and nervousness.
“What? No! Eddie, of course not, I could never regret you.” He finally looks back at Eddie, reassuring him. “Do you?”
“No. Not at all.” Eddie answers back, calm and so sure of himself.
“Okay. Cool cool cool.” He trails off back into their silence, still looking at each other.
“Tell me if I’m reading this wrong but I’m gonna say this.” Eddie reaches for one of Buck’s hands, intertwining their fingers. “I love you.”
Buck is stunned. So Eddie is not just pent up. He actually loves him.
Eddie loves Buck.
Buck loves Eddie.
Holy fucking shit.
“Holy fucking shit.” Buck’s words come out breathless and Eddie chuckles at his reaction. “You… love me?”
“Yes, Evan. I’m so in love with you it makes me look stupid.” Eddie’s smile beams at Buck. Buck urges forward, connecting their lips again, this time slower and more tender than their previous kisses. Buck pulls back to look Eddie in the eye, cupping his face.
“I love you, too. Oh, God, am I in love with you. So much.” He presses another kiss to Eddie's lips, both of them smiling, all teeth and lips.
And maybe after all they will be alright. There is nothing a little tension could do that could break them. Not when they are so deeply in love.
The End.
