Chapter Text
When Yoongi saw the ad for 6 guys looking for an additional roommate, he was skeptical. Considering most things involving the supernatural were strange at best and downright appalling at worst, he figured scoping things out would give him a better peace of mind.
(Hopefully this wasn't some elaborate scheme from Monster Hunters Inc. Yoongi really didn't want to have to dip into any emergency funds because some crossbow wielding punk got trigger happy.)
Upon contacting the number he was met with nothing but courteous albeit a bit guarded voices. Conducting the initial meeting over the phone proved to be beneficial. A small spark of excitement flared up in his chest. Yoongi hoped this place would work out.
Disregarding his particularly controversial appetite ( A vampires gotta eat afterall), admittedly egregious sleep schedule (working most nights) and his tendency to radiate aloofness (although that may just be his face and inclinations to introvert levels of interaction.) Yoongi couldn't be the most terrible option for a roommate. Hopefully these guys aren't to prejudice against vampires.
Although these guys were clingy at worst (the wolves), often used all the hot water (Jimin often held concerts in the shower) and obscenely clumsy (Namjoon routinely has pre ordered potion bottles due to the rate of his butterfingers.) Their proving to be some of the best roommates he's had in a very long time.
Granted he hasn't had many opportunities to interact with these guys due to differing schedules, he thinks this just may work out.
It's two months into living together when a true crisis emerges. Yoongi is settling in after a productive night out, the sun shyly rising to greet the earth with it's rays. The clock reads 9 in the morning when a horrendous cough breaks him from his brief slumber.
He hears several more following the first before he decides to make his way to the living room. He thought he would be the only one at home today.
Jimin had a diving class to teach, Namjoon often spent his time hunting for potions ingredients and Jin had an early shift at the restaurant. Which left the wolves but they usually went off traipsing into the woods or the park digging their noses into something.
He gets to the living room to find Jungkook, Taehyung and Hoseok strewn helplessly across the couch each looking disheveled, all cocooned in blankets.
A frown warps Yoongi's normally statuesque face.
"What's wrong with you three, eat too many dog treats? " he asks deadpanly
A chorus a groans leaves Jungkook and Taehyung. Hoseok lets out a dry laugh. Taehyung let's out a whine "I think we may have caught something hyung, the flu maybe."
Yoongi's frown deepens. "In the middle of summer?"
"We felt fine yesterday', Jungkook replies sluggishly."Now it feels like my brain is trying to escape my skull."
"Do all of you feel like this?"
A resounding yes fills the room. "I'll call Namjoon, maybe he'll know what's wrong with you."
"It sounds like they may have the Dokuro virus - it primarily takes root in the skull and causes terrible headaches with harsh coughs and high fever." Namjoon's tinny voice erupts from the phone worriedly. "-You didn't touch them did you? It's known to be highly contagious and—"
Yoongi cuts him off. "Maybe for people with working immune systems Joon. But fortunately for us I think I'll be fine considering my undead status.:
"Oh, right" Namjoon remarked sheepishly. "well in any case, I'll try to get ahold of some medicine."
"Let Jimin know to stay away from the house, I'll call Jin, Wouldn't want them to catch this too. What should I do in the mean time?"
"Just make sure they drink lots of fluids, and wrap them in a lot of blankets. Heat might help them get rid of it faster. "
"this place is going to reek of wet dog in no time."
"Good luck Yoongi, taking care of three wolves is asking for a ruff day." Namjoon teases.
"Focus on getting the medicine to cure this Joon."
"Message received. Hopefully I'll have it by tonight."
Wolves are social creatures; they tend to be in packs. However, some wolves don't have the need to be in one. Often preferring to be isolated in nature.
These wolves are often labelled wild or rogue in nature, solitary beings. While these wolves don't have a need for pack structure, more often then not these wolves are more likely to go 'feral' without the structure to fall back on. Presently more wolves are becoming more secluded lessening the number of packs compared to the olden days. Wolves adapting more to being on their own, making pack's more revered. Thanks to today's medicine and other creatures contributions, wolves are less likely to go 'feral'. (But it's important to keep in mind that it's still a possibility.)
Since wolves are social creatures, pack rituals are needed to maintain bonds and even a wolf's mental fortitude. Scenting, cuddling, and even an absentminded head ruffle can further settle a wolf's bond. If a wolf happens to be in a pack, they are more likely to acquire an extremely contagious illness, due to their high affection rates. This is something rogue wolves don't have to worry about.
Phone balanced precariously on one shoulder, spoon in one hand and a pot of freshly made Dakjuk on the stove, Yoongi felt unstoppable.
"-stir in a dash of sesame oil and it should be complete Yoongi."
"It looks pretty good Jin, thanks for talking me through it."
"I always say I'm more than an extraordinarily handsome face." smugness radiates through the phone.
"Extraordinarily irritating" Yoongi mutters. He yells out toward the living room. "Make some noise so I know your not dead in there. A groan fills the air along with a crisp cough, loud enough that even Jin can hear it through the phone. "they sound alright to me." Yoongi turns down the heat of the stove.
"Only you would classify that as alright." Jin says dryly.
"The only advice I have is to die, that would get control any immune deficiencies you may have" He ladles the soup into three separate bowls and pours some tea to pair with it. "hopefully this will help them feel a bit better"
"Careful Yoongi, that almost sounded like concern."
He lets out a huff. "spare me Jin, It's rude to tease over the phone where I can't smack you for it."
"That should be all Yoongi, maybe make more tea later."
"I'm going now if that's all. Remember don't come home until Namjoon comes back with a cure."
"Sure thing… You know, its really sweet of you to take care of them-"
"Jinnn-"
"Oh let me be giddy, I'm kind pf jealous I can't be in your care too."
"I can hear the pout on your face."
"I'll leave them in your care. And Yoongi…I'm really glad you were the one to answer the ad when you did."
"Bye Jin." Yoongi says quickly in hopes to avoid his second death by sentimentality.
"Bye Yoongi, have fun."
The dial tone fills the kitchen. Yoongi balances cups of tea and bowls of food in his arms. Much akin to a knight wielding a shield, he marches into the living room and prepares for battle.
Taking care of the pups isn't bad.
Its worse.
If it were only one of them it would seem doable, however Yoongi isn't so lucky.
If it wasn't Taehyung whining about being to hot. it was Jungkook complaining how much his head hurt. And poor Hoseok, sounded as though he might actually cough up both his lungs and rib to go with them.
If I were mortal I'd probably have to go to the doctor from how sick I'd get from hearing my own name. Yoongi pondered bemusedly.
"Yoongi cough hyung could I have more tea?"
Yoongi's day is spent hauling wolves to and from the bathroom, tea refills and god forbid - cuddle piles.
Once they realized just how cold my skin felt (vampires usually ran pretty cold since we didn't need to regulate body heat) on their feverish skin they used him as a begrudging ice pack. Despite their neediness, it wasn't all bad. Even while sick they were still good company to keep. Thankfully Namjoon did manage to get his hands on a cure.
(When asked where he got it from, an unsettling smile creeped onto his face and said not to worry about it. Jin thinks he bought it from one of his witch friends. Jimin and I think he 'stumbled' upon the ingredients and made it himself. )
Yoongi was incredibly thankful for his vampiric strength as he distributed the wolves back to their room, medicine administered and all to tired to grumble about an early bedtime.
Yoongi made sure to clean everything, himself included, before he welcomed his roommates back into their now sick free home.
One week Later
Yoongi comes home to find the wolves all gathered in his and Jimin's room, crowded around his bed. He leans against the doorway. "I didn't know we were having a slumber party - A wry smile ghosts its way onto his face- I would have worn my silk pajamas."
They all jump.
"Yoongi-" "Hyung—we weren't sure when you'd be back— "We couldn't wait to give this to you!" They all gesture to the box laying on his bed wrapped in blood red paper.
"You guys didn't have to get me anything" as he drifts closer.
"we wanted to say thanks for last week." Jungkook replies abashedly
"It couldn't have been easy taking care of all three of us, so we wanted to show our thanks." Hoseok finishes.
Yoongi unwraps the box. Inside revealed a grey, lumpy sweater. On the breast of the shirt is a smudge of black.
"Its supposed to be a bat but it was harder to do than it looked." Taehyung shrugs
"You guys made this?"
"Yep. We probably could have commissioned someone but it felt more personal to make you something."
"that's why its so lumpy, the loops got confusing."
Yoongi's face breaks out into a gummy smile, eyes gaining a slight sheen to them.
"It looks great, I appreciate it."
Taehyung elbows Hoseok . "Ouch—We also wanted to extend a formal invitation into pack cuddle sessions, we think you'd make a great addition—"
"Since you've already accepted the sweater you can't say no." Jungkook hurriedly finishes. "
"Guess I can't say no."
Receiving an invitation into pack bonding is a momentous occasion. While it isn't rare to find a wolf bonding with their friends on their own, inviting someone to their 'home base' with their personal established pack is purposeful.
It means the wolf considers you worthy of being family. It opens an ongoing bond that is hard to break. It gives other packmates a chance to be introduced which can further integrate the new person into their pack.
Later that day Jimin notices Yoongi wearing a lumpy sweater.
"Where did you get that hyung?"
"It's custom made."
"It looks…nice"
Yoongi hums in agreement.
If Yoongi is seen afterward in the middle of the couch surrounded by wolves wearing a shoddily made sweater with a small smile on his face it's no one's business but his own.
