Regulus Black could very distinctly remember someone saying that casting love spells wasn't the cleverest idea. His heart had been broken in the past and he'd find himself wanting someone badly, yet casting a love spell never so much as crossed his mind.
Having said that, sober-Regulus and drunk-Regulus were two completely different individuals.
Or; Regulus drunkenly puts a forbidden love spell on James and has to deal with the consequences as he tries (and repeatedly fails) to find a way to lift it. Falling in (real) love ensues.
