This is a work of fiction, and we take liberties with most of the subject matter. Except, in this case, with the information surrounding eels! All of the information presented about eels is scientifically accurate.Eels live their adolescence in freshwater streams and head out to the Sargasso Sea to mate and die (it's tragically romantic). They're really tough to do research on and there's a lot of ongoing cool work being done. And yes, American eels (Anguilla rostrata) are currently under discussion to be classified as an endangered species.
