Summary
“How did you get home from the hospital?”
“Took an uber.”
“Does Maddie know?” Silence. “Does anyone?” More silence. More of Buck refusing to meet his gaze, staring at the door like he thought he could entice Eddie to leave by the power of suggestion. Well, good fucking luck, Eddie thought. Wild horses, and all that. “Why didn’t you call anyone?” he demanded. “Why didn’t you call me?”
“I did!” Buck snarled. The momentum of his indignation carried him into a sitting position, and Eddie could see him flinch with the pain of it. His unnaturally stoic front was gone, and something raw and wrenching took its place; it occurred to Eddie that he’d never heard Buck raise his voice before. “I did call you, Eddie! As I was bleeding out on my kitchen floor. You. Didn’t. Answer.”

The squatter in Buck's attic has a knife. Buck has a bit of a breakdown. Eddie has a plan to make everything right.

Summary
"No," the voice interrupted, almost annoyed. "The hot guy."
Eddie paused. “…You mean Buck?”
"Yes. The blue-eyed one. Small. Sad. Pretty."
Eddie blinked. “Okay, first of all? Buck’s not small. I’ve seen that man carry an entire grown adult out of a fire one-handed. He’s like six feet tall and his arms are gigantic-”
"Okay, fruit loops. To us, all humans are small."
“‘Us’?” Eddie echoed. “Who the hell is us?”
There was a pause.
Then the voice shifted — darker, deeper, closer.
"We are Venom."or, venom says gay rights!

Summary
“I just—I don’t want you to be alone,” said Eddie, softly, like an admission.
Join the fucking club, Buck thought. It was funny, but none of his laughs were coming out right tonight. “I am alone, Eddie.”
“Buck, I—”
“She wants my kidney.” There it went; Buck never could keep anything inside. Could never keep the feelings contained, could never stop them from spilling out over the people nearest him. “That’s what fucking happened, okay? My dad needs a kidney donor and they remembered why they bothered having me in the first place. Is that what you wanted to hear? That my parents finally found a use for me after all these years?”

A request from his mom tears open old wounds for Buck. From 800 miles away, Eddie tries to stitch him back together.

Summary
It’s not like Buck needs anyone to tell him what his issues are. They might as well be written on his forehead in bright red marker. He’s not ignoring it or anything; Buck just doesn’t see the point in re-litigating them every time he feels like this, every time he feels like a dog that got sent back to the pound. It’s not like he doesn’t have his friends and family, and Tommy is sleeping right next to him, but there’s a hole in Buck’s chest he’s had since he was born and he still doesn’t know how to fill it.
When the 118 is closed for reconstruction after an earthquake, Buck is a floater for different stations around the city. He tries not to let it get to him. Much.

Summary
Eddie is equal parts surprised and offended that his Abuela no longer asks him to make repairs around her house. He hadn't expected to be replaced by some random blue-eyed buff guy from the 118, and his pride is a little hurt by it. But making fast friends is Buck's superpower, and it isn't long before Eddie starts to see why Isabel keeps the man around. Eddie soon finds that it's near impossible not to fall in love with him.
Or, Eddie is an overwhelmed single father and Isabel is just trying to help by taking a few things off his plate, but it's hard for Eddie to see it that way at first.

Summary
Still off balance, Buck slams his left heel onto the roof, heaving forward to catch the collar of that yellow shirt. And there’s no conscious decision making here. It’s all instinct, and he’s grateful for it. If he’d given his overzealous mind the chance to consider another way, he would have missed his shot. Instead, his arms hurl the boy into the hands of another survivor...
And his right foot misses the edge.
OR
Buck catches Chris before he rolls off the firetruck, and it's him who falls back into the retreating waters of the tsunami. Unconscious and seriously injured, he's unaware that his team has been searching for him, never giving up as the days pass.
