Ian shakes his head, then winces again. He clenches his jaw tight.
“Ian, come on,” Mickey says, the harsh edge of his voice fading into something softer. “Why?”
Something about this isn’t right. Worry pools in the spaces between his ribs.
“I don’t know,” Ian says too quickly. He readjusts his ice pack. “My head is fucking killing me. And… I’m kinda dizzy.”

He honestly doesn’t know which is more concerning. Ian hearing his dead mother just outside their cell door, or Ian thinking he’s actually trapped in here with his shithead brother instead of his boyfriend.
When Mickey doesn’t say anything, Ian turns back to the door and starts banging on it again, faster and louder than before. He doesn’t stop. The guards start to take notice.
“Jesus Christ,” Mickey mumbles, finally getting his brain to work again.

“Will you go somewhere with me?” he asks instead, his voice quiet and unsure.
There are a million questions going through Mickey’s head right now, but he answers with, “Sure.” He doesn’t even hesitate.
Ian licks his lips, nods his head a little. He shifts the keys in his grip, tries to take a few slow breaths.
Mickey reaches over and cups the back of Ian’s neck, his fingers cold and the skin under Ian’s collar warm. Mickey squeezes gently, more of a reassurance than anything.
He’d go with Ian anywhere. No questions asked.
