But this wasn't a movie, nor one of the morning cartoon shows that she swore she was "too old to watch," but still secretly enjoyed. There was no sequel to the story, no epilogue to the adventure, it was already hard to hope for a happy ending when the heroes were weakened, far from confrontation, going against the clock on a plan that was unlikely to work, leaving all their lives and comfort behind again toward a future that was uncertain and an ending they couldn't predict.
Or: Anne is 'backstabbed', bringing back unfortunate memories.

Stanford and Stanley Pines never expected their anomaly detector to point towards the town of Gravesfield, Connecticut, but since their 13-year-old niece and nephew were staying with the brothers again this summer, the family figured it would make for a nice adventure. After all, nothing too crazy could happen in a typical American town, right?
Girlfriends Anne and Marcy moved with their BFF Sasha to the town of Gravesfield, where Sasha gets a new therapy job and Anne is running an amphibian exhibit in a nearby aquarium. Sasha’s newest patient, however, is a boy named Hunter Noceda, with pointed ears and a scarred body.
After her mom officially adopted Hunter and the rebuilding process on the Isles was finally getting somewhere, Luz thought things were back to a routine. But when Hunter’s new therapist turns out to know more than expected about other dimensions and town rumors spread about a six-fingered man hunting for anomalies, everything gets weird again.
Three worlds collide, but in the confusion and possibility for friendship lurks the danger of past memories being dredged up, information falling into the wrong hands, and worst of all, a certain triangle god bringing back two other villains with him.

Sasha let out a growl and lunged, catching the creature, whatever it was, by its hood. She wasn't about to let it get away, not without a fight.
"Get over here!"
The hood comes down, but before she can get a good look at it, something slams against the side of Sasha's face. Her hand is still in the hood, though, and so they go down together. A body landing atop Sasha's and pressing her into the dirt. Something presses against her throat-- probably the same thing that hit her in the face-- and she's forced to look up into the eyes of her attacker or risk getting her wind-pipe crushed like a twig.
"Anne?!" She wheezes.
"GRAAH!" Anne snarls, pupils the size of pinpricks.

Anne never makes it to Wartwood. At least, not on her own.
