Beca looked down at the bathtub, at the ice cubes she'd dumped in from the freezer, at the way her skin had taken on that grayish quality that meant she'd been in here too long. The timer on her phone said thirty-nine minutes left.
"It b–burns calories," she heard herself say, the words tumbling out before she could stop them, because apparently the ice had frozen her brain from working too. "C–Cold water. It makes your b–body work harder to stay w–warm, so you burn m–more—"
"Get out." Aubrey's voice had gone hard, commanding, captain voice times a thousand. "Get out of the tub right now."
OR
Beca isn't well and has an eating disorder. One night, she discovered a forum online saying that being subjected to cold temperatures can burn calories. And that led to Beca having an ice bath.

Summary
Beca Mitchell never intended to learn about the Squip. The information was moreso forced upon her. At a party. An A Cappella party. That she didn't really want to go to in the first place.
"Squip" stands for Super Quantum Unit Intel Processor — apparently. It is essentially a supercomputer. A supercomputer packed into a pill that you can swallow, which then supposedly implants into your brain and speaks to you telepathically. According to admittedly not-so-reliable sources, this "Squip" can teach you how to live life to its fullest potential.
Especially in places like high school or university.
It can teach you how to be cool. How to get things you want — whether that be boys, girls, popularity, or careers. It's like having a cheat code — a cheat code for life itself.
Beca Mitchell never intended to learn about the Squip, let alone get one for herself. But sometimes the universe has a funny sense of humour.
And sometimes, that humour can be maliciously cruel.

Summary
Instead of answering with words, Aubrey stepped forward and, in one fluid motion that defied both physics and common sense, swept Beca off her feet in a classic bridal carry. Beca's surprised squeak echoed through the empty aisles as she found herself suddenly airborne, her arms instinctively wrapping around Aubrey's neck for stability.
"What the hell are you doing?" Beca demanded, though her voice carried more laughter than genuine protest. "Have you completely lost your mind? Put me down before someone sees us!"
"Nope," Aubrey replied with the satisfaction of someone who had just executed a perfect plan. "You're getting the full princess treatment tonight. No arguments. No protests. No sarcastic commentary about my decision-making skills."

The door opened with a creak, and Aubrey's voice became clearer. "Beca? I'm coming in, okay? I can't quite hear you over the water."
"I'm..." Beca started, then stopped. What was she going to say? That she was fine? That would be a lie, and they'd both know it. She gritted her teeth, biting the inside of her cheek to try and cope with the embarrassment she was currently feeling. "I can't stand up."
Silence. The only sound was the steady drumming of water against the tub.

"It's.. pretty bad," Benji said quietly, clearly biting emotions back, but she could hear the strain in his voice. "I've been working on it since six this morning, but every time I think I'm making progress..." He gestured helplessly at the chaos.
Beca nodded. She understood that feeling—when a task felt so overwhelming that every small step forward somehow made the whole thing seem more impossible.
"Okay," she said, slowly stepping into the room and quietly closing the door behind her. "Okay. Let's figure this out."
