Etho's content. He's surrounded by great friends, he has a great boyfriend, and he gets to play on a great hockey team. He just hopes nothing catches up to him that could ruin that. But nothing should happen, right?
Joel loves Etho. He thinks. Maybe. Either way, he knows it's way too early to say anything. And so instead, he focuses on enjoying himself and playing as well as possible. Hopefully nothing will come in the way of that.

It was quiet, Etho running his hands through his hair. A summons, from the king. Something Etho really couldn’t ignore. He wasn’t a prince, he wasn’t even the words behind the letters. Oh gods, had the king gotten a hold of some of Pearl’s letters? If that happened, there was no way Etho would be able to-
To do what? What was Etho even saying? To do…another scam? The biggest scam they could ever do. A robbery of the royal vault, filled to the brim with gold, more than any of them could spend in one lifetime.
It was like the three of them got to the same place at the same time, all three of them looking up at each other with varying degrees of excitement. “We can’t.” Tango instantly said, a smile already starting to grow on his face.
“It would be a death wish.” Etho agreed.
“I mean,” Pearl paused, eyes flicking down towards the letter again. “Ignoring a summons like that, that would be a death wish as well.” There was another pause, Pearl letting the sentiment really sink in. Then-
“It would be the greatest scam we could ever do.”

In the village of Slug Ravine, the bustling sounds of the townspeople echoed in the valley. The hearty folks were a close and happy bunch, and for the first time in forever, their constant murmuring stopped. They stopped to look at the sky, to look as a mysterious blue glow lit it up brighter than any full moon can.
It looked like a star. A blue star falling from the heavens.
As the star dipped into the ravine many of the townsfolk called home, the bustling sounds of the village returned, as if the people there had already forgotten the spectacular sight they will never see again.

Bdubs spluttered random nonsense before laughing, “First time you say?” He stopped laughing and wiped the forming tears on his face before smiling softly at Etho, “I say you're perfect...”
All of Etho's confidence suddenly melted as the golden boy beamed at him so brightly, it hurt to look at him. His face was probably as red as a tomato and Etho was grateful for the darkness of the night.

One day, on a foraging trip at the edge of the forest, Bdubs noticed something. A movement amidst the trees, a shift in the air, the faint scent of something that didn’t belong. Like cheap cologne and redstone dust.
And he let it be. Because this person was not threatening his home, Bdubs did his foraging and left him alone. But, strangely, he found him there the next day too, sitting at the base of a tree and tracing patterns into the dirt. The day after, the strange man hadn’t moved, acting like that of a trapped animal the way he paced back and forth, never doing much, always radiating…distress.
Bdubs didn’t care. He knew these people all moved on eventually.

The newest one, in a position on a ship that barely anybody had heard about, never mind thought about.
He was going to die.
The fact was suddenly becoming all too real, and all too clear.

Etho hears a quiet little, ‘meroww’ behind him.
He sets the knife in the sink next to him, turning around.
Scar stands in the kitchen, his cat, Jellie in his arms.
“Daddy, what are you making?” Scar asks, adjusting his hold on the gray and white cat.
"A peanut butter and jelly sandwich and ants on a log.” Etho says, grabbing the jar of peanut butter and a butter knife, spreading the peanut butter on the inside curve of the celery.
Scar sticks out his tongue, making a face, “Eww, I don’t want to eat bugs like Bdubs.”
“First, your brother does not eat bugs…anymore, and second, they don't actually want Scar, they are raisins.” Etho chuckles.
“Oh.” Scar says.
