Maybe he expected he’d melt into the conversation with Makoto until Haru finally said something to him again. Maybe he expected to ignite Haru’s touch-me-not nature and instigate a playful fight that would inevitably end with them back in the water.
What he *didn’t* expect was for Haru to cry out like he’d been stabbed and crumple to his knees.
Rin instantly took a step back, eyes wide as Haru clutched at his throat and began gasping.
“Haru!” Makoto knelt beside him, quickly followed by Gou and Nagisa.
Haru slumped further, dropping onto the tile and spasming as he choked on his own breath. He began clawing at the sides of his neck like he wanted to tear away his flesh as he writhed on the ground.
And then, he screamed.
