Buck’s statement carried the cadence of a middle school math teacher reminding her pre-algebra class that two plus two equals four. Like it was an obvious, fundamental truth. There could be no other possibility.

The seconds flew past him. He should have fallen asleep hours ago, but his mind refused to let him rest. Instead, he watched as the sun began to kiss the sky through their bedroom window, painting it orange and pink. Through the sleepless fog of his mind, Buck mused that the colour of the morning sky matched Eddie's cheeks from the night before. His cheeks had flushed as his eyes fluttered shut when his lips parted in an inaudible gasp. Buck hadn't been able to look away, not until Eddie hid his face in the crook of his elbow to keep himself quiet.
