Tommy doesn’t answer. He’s learned not to.
As “Hex,” Dream’s young vampire hunter, Tommy has no choice but to obey—or bleed. It’s a cruel life of servitude and survival, but one he’s convinced himself is righteous. That is, until a shift at his second job—a grimy, warm-lit bar owned by Quackity—puts him face to face with three strangers who feel far too kind for this world.
They don’t know who he is. He doesn’t know what they are.
And somewhere between the drinks, the bruises, and a quiet smile from a man who looks like he could be his father, Tommy starts to wonder if maybe he doesn’t have to fight alone anymore.
But even light can bruise—and monsters can still bleed.

Tommy felt like he couldn’t breathe as panic clawed at his ribcage and sunk itself deep into his heart. Surely Dream was kidding? Surely Dream would wheeze out a laugh and jokingly berade Tommy for how scared he looked, say that it was just a joke. “You’re going to TheFirstEmpire. You’re going to become one of Philza’s humans,”
It felt like his whole world had been flipped upside down and mercilessly shook.
Every part of him wanted to believe Dream was lying.. He wanted to beg, plead, get down on his knees and cry for Dream to do something because Tommy didn’t want to leave!He didn’t want to be some dumb peace offering to another coven! He didn’t want to leave Dream, even as mean and cruel as he could be.

The plan had not involved getting punched in the face.
What plan would? Not one of Tommy’s. His usually had mountains of riches and countless villains bested with Tommy himself stood proudly over the rubble, the hero of his neighbourhood, the best that ever lived.
This plan was supposed to be that. Not another punch to the stomach.
He struggled again, yelling strangled curses to the two brutes that held him in place for the third to swing again. The fist met his jaw and a rush of iron pooled in his mouth, stars blinking their way into his vision.
Maybe this plan sucked.

Quickly, Tommy makes sure his mask is still on right and that his hair is covering his bruised jaw. Then he opens the door.
What Tommy expects to see when he owns the door is a Hero Headquarters employees in an ordinary suit or formal outfit with a clipboard and pen at the ready. What he doesn't expect is the hero Hades in his black and green hero robes at a table reading Tommy's resume.- Or -

In a world where for years, death has been the only consistency in anybody's life, Tommy is a member of the Guard in one of the few last remaining safe havens: Pogtopia. It is not an easy or fulfilling way to live but he is good at it and it helps keep him alive. When, in one of his night patrols to insure no infected have come near The City, he comes across a survivor by the name of Wilbur Soot, he learns that life might be able to be more than just a constant fight for survival after all.
