hello! i recently read the original atyd fic and sirius' pov of it, and i absolutely loved both of them. this fic will, like sirius' pov be every chapter of atyd but from james' pov and this fanfic is inspired by both the original by MsKingBean89 and sirius' pov by Rollercoasterwords all the credit for those works goes to them, please go read theirs first if you haven't, then come back here to get the story from our favorite bambi's perspective.
ps. the writing style of this fic is intended to match the two previous works.

“Well, I am a considerate person.”
James wished he were brave enough to look into Regulus’ eyes. It shouldn't come as a surprise that Regulus never listened to what James had to say, considering he couldn't even look at the youngest Black without his head getting too foggy to concentrate on his words.
So James looked away subtly. It was easier talking to Regulus’ forehead, because while it was perfectly smooth and home to a few strands of black, silky hair, it couldn’t stare into James’ soul and corrupt it with weird thoughts.“I promise if you do.”
“I promise, Potter,” Regulus scoffed, impatiently readjusting the collar of his shirt. James really had to bore him.
“Good, then so do I.”
They held out their hands to shake on the deal. James’ hand was firmly pressed against Regulus’ then, warm skin meeting cold, dark skin meeting pale. Before James could get a hold of the sensation, Regulus pulled him close and attacked him.
James Potter can't stop playing the hero to make himself feel useful. Somehow, that makes him end up closer to Regulus Black than he had ever imagined.

“Scary even.” James agreed with a soft snort.
The group halted to a stop. James did not. For the second time that day, his body slammed into the girl in front of him, which he now knew was Dr. Evans. The very angry and slightly frightening Dr. Evans. He winced and ducked behind Sirius before she had the chance to actually say something, he received a look so putrid even his mother, as proud as she was, would have shrunk two sizes.
Lily Evans had spent her whole life working towards one goal. Determined to become one of the greatest surgeons in history, nothing was going to stop her.
Especially not meaningless distractions that came in the form of James Potter.

Summary
James got outed in year seven. His best friend, Peter, had mentioned it to a few people, who started bullying him. He has since accepted that those people will still be in his classes and he can’t avoid them forever. His band teacher approaches him asking if he’s interested in an all-day queer jazz workshop at another school.
Regulus has about 200 secrets he’s holding from his parents, but 2 of these would be the end of Beauxbatons Academy of the Arts for him if they found out. He focuses more on jazz band than his classical music studies, and he despises the idea of continuing their family line with a woman. When waiting outside his orchestra director's office for a meeting, he spots a poster announcing that Hogwarts is hosting a jazz workshop for LGBTQ+ people.
