He woke up locked in a room. It would be a dungeon if not for the sounds of the underground trains speeding by. He quickly loses track of the days. His only thoughts are of living long enough for his friends to free him.
They only had the one night together. It quickly becomes a fleeting memory in his confused mind, but a memory that he holds on too.
His last wish isn’t even survival, it's just to see Mycroft one last time before he’d eaten alive by the rats that are circling him. Through it all he has one companion, a small cat that protects him even when he can't tell what's real and what's not.

In fact, suppose that Sherlock and Mycroft’s parents had decided to take John in as a foster child and then to adopt him, when they learned about his family situation? What if Mycroft and Sherlock had become John’s adoptive brothers? This AU Kidlock story shows how that could have come about. (I've borrowed the rest of Mycroft's full name from sgam76's own head canon with sgam76's permission—thanks, sgam76! Sherlock's own full name is, needless to say, canon-compliant, as is John's.)

John Watson- divorced at 37, recently moved back home, tentatively in love with his best friend- has had a lot to deal with recently. Finding his way back to his old life isn't simple, not even when Sherlock makes it as natural as breathing. He figures, if writing silly love notes takes a little off his shoulders, what could be the harm? It's not like Sherlock would ever know.
