Severus Snape had always been dogged by bad luck. That doesn’t change when he begins his sixth year at Hogwarts. But the world around him is shifting with the escalating war, and suddenly everybody seems to take an interest in the scrawny half-blood’s allegiances. His free time is haunted by Dumbledore’s minions, Voldemort’s followers, pure-blood families and of course the bloody Marauders.
Is it too much to ask for some peace and quiet and a cauldron to call his own?
Severus is brilliant, lonely, and far too young to be standing at the front lines, but fate doesn’t agree with that. With increasing responsibilities comes increasing confidence, and he slowly starts to believe in a future worth fighting for.

This is a 'what if' about what would happen if 'Draco isn't an Idiot', and paid attention to the lessons Narcissa taught about the Black, and following their motto, ‘family first.’ Naturally, Draco would invite Harry to join his family, and from there he actually learns the truth, instead of the lies told by Dumbledore. With proper supervision and the love of family, Harry excels in ways never dreamed.
Because that wasn't enough of a challenge, I also made a world very similar to Victorian England with harsh discipline, honor, and proper comportment. I created a world where first-gens are used to replenish the magic of families, so while second-class citizens, they are necessary every three generations to keep the family magic alive. Beloved Hekate is the goddess of magic, and she does occasionally interfere, too.

What he doesn't expect is a middle-aged French Witch grieving the loss of her English husband to stumble upon a baby out in the cold and be moved to help him. By any means necessary.
He also doesn't expect her to be the Great Niece of Perenelle Flamel, or related to the deposed Queen of Magical France who lives in exile while engaged in a dirty tug-of-war for power against the French Ministry.
But then, Dumbledore always was a short-sighted man too fixated upon his own chess pieces to look beyond the board He's set up to play with.

Following their tumultuous first year of acquaintance (for context please read book 1: "Albus and Emrys"), Albus and Merlin were again in the relatively quiet Hogwarts castle with the summer staff. Albus did not spend as many days in the lab as he had the previous summer, for several reasons, chief amongst them being Merlin. The elder sorcerer would sometimes take him away from his lab for a break, or for no particular reason. But they had also decided they would hunt dangerous things in the school, a sort of planned daring and recklessness that the two went for with a will. It was characteristic of the sort of men they were that the difference between planned and spontaneous recklessness was slight and mostly arbitrary.
