Turns out, when Mann Co. fires you, they don't bother giving you time to process it. Three months' notice, contracts stripped, then let the law catch up with you later. You end up shoved in a cramped hotel, waiting to find out what kind of criminal the world has already decided you are.
Scout is used to running—it's all he's known. But the walls feel more suffocating than any battlefield ever did. It turns out the fastest guy in Boston can't outrun paperwork, being forced to share a hotel room with Sniper, or the epiphanies of living real life creeping in, rather than fighting for gravel.
The battlefield is gone; the noise is gone. Running doesn't work when there's no where else to go but down.
