Oh, and by the way, in this story like half the world's population are racist towards hybrids, and many people hunt them. Tommy's aunt is one of those people.

Tommy narrowed his eyes, wrinkled his nose, and it was his turn to examine behind the stranger. There was a horse in the clearing, with several bundles of clothes on it.
“Is Phil the horse? He doesn’t look sick to me, though I’m not an expert. I don’t do horse bodies as well as I do human bodies though,” Tommy said, considering.
“What, no,” the man said. “The horse is Carl. This is Phil,” he said, and plucked the crow right off his shoulder to hold him at eye height.
“Oh you smarmy little fucker,” Tommy said, eyes narrowing. “You knew exactly what you were doing when you stole those berries.”

One final step had the two a foot apart, the younger tilting his head up slightly from where he was backed up to look at the man.
Techno smiled bitterly at the boy.
"But, we will always be the monsters to them."
A damning silence.
"You'd do well to remember that."

Tommy lived in a place where people with magic are seen as scum - which probably wasn't great seeing as he had magic - but he was used to it! He just wished it didn't hurt as much when it came from his only family.
Techno was content living by himself. Sure, it got a little lonely sometimes - when he couldn't keep his voices in check, or when the memories he tried so hard to forget kept surfacing, but he's fine.

Techno huffs as Wilbur walks past and he grabs Wilbur’s shoulder. “Hey, come back, alright? If I don’t hear that you’re back before the meeting’s over, I’m coming to look for you.” Wilbur rolls his eyes.
“Such a worrier,” Wilbur lightheartedly punches at his shoulder and Techno grabs onto Wilbur’s hoof.
“You’re my brother, you’re the reason we have a bastion, of course, I’m going to worry,” Techno’s eyes dig holes into Wilbur’s own. Wilbur gives a soft laugh and gives his brother a hug.
“We can go to the den when I get back, okay?” Wilbur feels Techno nod and one last squeeze before they’re separating to go their own ways. “Love you!”
“Yeah, whatever.” The small smile that flits across Techno’s snout makes Wilbur feel better about leaving his brother, even if only for a short while.

“I was just gonna say that you could stay in one of the rooms of the castle, if you wanted to get out of the cold.” Techno stared at the teenager but Tommy was too busy reeling to properly process what he just said.
The hesitation and disbelief must’ve shown on his face because the man before him just did a weird shuffle in place, like he also wanted to be anywhere but there. Although this was objectively his doing so Tommy couldn’t spare much sympathy.
“I’ll,” Tommy paused, unsure how to respond. “I’ll think about it.”
Techno just kinda curtly nodded, scratching his head and looking off to the side. Tommy went to mirror his movements, if just to avoid locking eyes with the man, but when he looked back in front of him Techno was nowhere to be seen.
If anything, it just solidified what a fever dream that entire interaction was.

Tommy hasn't been very subtle about stealing food from the royal's storehouse, and Techno is going to do something about it
