Summary
Steven's Gem and Human halves were split shortly after birth.
After Blue Zircon looked over the case of Pink Diamonds shattering, the Diamonds discovered that Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond. However, when they arrived on Earth to find her, all that was left of her was a newborn organic infant. So, the Crystal Gems and the Diamonds made a deal that they would leave Earth alone if they could take the new Diamond with them, leaving the human half on Earth
Now, 18 years later, Pink Diamond has decided to visit their colony.

It's been so long since Steven's meltdown. You know? The one where he almost destroyed all Beach City and almost harmed the residents? Well, things were bad… but with time- and professional help- it was getting better. He was getting better.
He was happy, his friends and family were happy. Nothing bad was happening. No more ‘saving the world’ emergencies. No need for him to fix or help anyone in that matter. Things were peaceful just like he always wanted. His Happily Ever After, truthfully this time.
So why was he feeling so... dull?

Summary
The Gems didn’t tell him anything more about Pink Diamond—he was fine with that! Really! Not like they ever told him much anyway. Thus, all he knew about her was her name and she was shattered—by his mom—but he also knew she was a Diamond, and the Diamonds were bad. They wanted to hurt the earth and his mom wanted to protect it.
She did what she had to do for her cause, her home, her friends.
For his family.
Rose Quartz was a hero, and Pink Diamond a villain.
She did what she had to.
He knew that.
(But—if shattering her was right—
(Or—or even if she just thought it was right—
(T-Then why did she bubble Bismuth for suggesting the same thing? Why even fight just to do what she wanted in the end? Why not go back for her if Rose had changed her mind? Why—)
He couldn’t talk to the gems about it, they all looked up to her; it would hurt them to know what he was thinking…and Pearl had looked really upset back at the moon base, and he wasn’t even sure Amethyst knew anything either.
There was no one to answer any of his questions.Well…until two days ago.

Summary
At the end of Steven Universe Future, things don't look up for Steven like they were supposed to. His corruption affected him more severely than he thought. He knows the true cause of all his issues in life. His gem. He can't live with the reminder for the rest of his life. The best thing to do is remove it. But that choice might be worse in the long run.

I'm in pain, but not as much as Steven is.
An excellent work that knows how to put Steven and his components through The Horrors. Angst is par for the course in a Steven Universe fic, but the whump is more difficult to find. This fic has enough whump every chapter to power a city with horrific injuries and scenarios one might only think of in their worst nightmares!
Absolutely love Dog and Copter, truly Steven's number 1 allies. Which he really does need in going through all these situations. With the extra trauma for Steven, I can imagine extra crash-out later.
