That he managed not to screw the kid up too badly, despite everything. So when Billy comes to stay with him and Rico in New York for part of summer break, he's more than a little bit apprehensive, and is suddenly forced to confront his whole concept of fatherhood, of manhood, and everything that happened back in the summer of '86.
Because after all, what twelve year is going to react well to figuring out his dad is queer?
