"Give them nothing." His voice was vicious.
Liam nodded, as did they all, and they would obey. They were painfully aware that Xaden Riorson was the only reason they were standing here, and not about to be led up onto the stone platform with their parents.
Though perhaps it would have been kinder, Liam thought bitterly as the stands slowly filled with people, dragons circling above. He and Sloane moved obediently towards the front, coming to a stop a few rows from Riorson, who had placed himself front and center, flanked by his cousin Bodhi Durran and his friend Garrick Tavis. Fen Riorson's son tried his best to look steady, but Liam could see the blood soaking through the back of his shirt, the way Durran and Tavis kept him standing.
Sloane gripped his hand and he turned to his sister, hugging her tightly when he saw that her lower lip was trembling and tears were gathering. Would it be their last hug? He wasn't sure when they would be ripped apart and he clung to her as tightly as he could.
