Tony’s head pops up from behind the toilet. “That’s what your essay is about?”

Batman being hit by a spell from a third rate villain really shouldn't have caused any issues. Except for the fact that he was hit with a love spell that was intent on making him fall in love with Superman. Of course. Perhaps it would have been less of an issue if he wasn't already in love with the Man of Steel.
Or, the one in which Bruce can't be away from Clark for too long and he has to fight off a spell trying to make him act on every Brucie instinct he has ever had.
Or, OR, the one in which they flirt, sleep in the same bed, wake up together- all before they start dating! They take their show on the road to the Daily Planet and subject Lois and Jimmy to the worst pre and post-lunch mating ritual they've ever seen. Not to mention briefly subjecting all of Bruce's kids to their dad being grossly in love.

It's not like Peter is paranoid.
He knows what he sees when he sees it, knows the implications of Tony's tired eyes and weakened smiles, knows the secret words that rest nicely behind his teeth and keep themselves quiet as they decay. Peter has seen this, felt this, maybe not firsthand but damn close enough, and though he loathes to admit it, he knows he's seeing it all over again. Same shit, different parental figure. The only difference is that, this time around, the curtain has been pulled back. This time, he knows exactly what kind of monster they're facing. He knows this demon by name.
It's not like Peter is paranoid. He knows what he sees when he sees it.
He just doesn't have a clue what the fuck he's supposed to do about it.

Peter indistinctively grips the railing tighter, metal bending slightly under his grip. He loosens his grip a bit, just enough so it wouldn't break the railing. He slowly turns around, dread pooling in his stomach. "Yes?" Peter bites out, annoyed.
Then he freezes.
"Kid, why don't you get behind the railing?" Sam Wilson--the frickin Falcon asks him, hands gripping the straps of his metal wings, almost as if he were trying to look casual, but failing miserably. "Why don't we talk about this?"
Or: Peter wants to go home, via jumping off a roof at SI. Sam Wilson lands on the very same roof at the same time and misunderstands the situation.

“Tony,” says a voice that isn’t Steve’s, “I need to talk to you.”
It’s Nat. She sounds rough, which gives him pause. His head is pounding and he’s still bitter about her switching sides, probably always will be, but he makes himself speak. “What could you possibly have to talk to me about?”
“Peter,” she says, and everything stops. His heart, his brain, the world.
His breath is caught in his throat and he almost chokes on it. “Natasha. I swear to God, if you’re fucking with me right now I’ll make you regret the day you were born.”
Nat takes a deep breath like this is just as hard for her as it is for him. “He’s alive,” she says, and Tony can’t—he can’t, he’s having a heart attack or something, maybe a stroke, maybe both.
“How do you figure?” he grits, eyes closed now. Picturing Peter. Laughing, he was always laughing. Peter at seven chasing his puppy around with a stick, Peter at eight hiding under the covers with Tony, tracing the outline of the arc reactor with a finger, does it hurt?
Yes it hurts. It hurts so much. It hurts every goddamn day.
