When Sammi Slott fails to make the call that would have ended everything, the trajectory of Ian's life shifts. Instead of handcuffs and a desert border, there is a bloody fight on a baseball field, a surprisingly expensive steak at Sizzler's, and a choice to finally stop running.

Trinity has had to live with cystic fibrosis her whole life. Constant supervision, hospital trips, homeschool, it's always been like a piece of caution tape blocking her from living. She didn't expect anyone to get it.
But Baran Al-Hashimi has a way of understanding people.
