Summary
Barefooted, Eddie entered the kitchen, opening the door and closing it behind him. He rubbed his face, frustrated, telling himself it was to wash the sleepy numbness away, but all he wanted to do was to rip off that image from his skull, to bleach out the anguish that came with it and forget the day before had ever happened.
He should have known. He wished he had known. Maybe if he had, things would have been different; Christopher wouldn’t have fallen off the truck, and Buck wouldn’t have jumped off after him to wander for hours restlessly, looking for him till collapse.
Maybe if Eddie had known, he could have gone to their rescue, and neither would have suffered the living nightmare they did; or rather, they wouldn’t have undergone as much agony as they did. Just alleviating a thousandth part of it all would have been enough, a release for them and less guilt for himself.
If only he had known.
–
The memory of Buck and Christopher arriving at the hospital the night after the tsunami is still haunting Eddie. His parents decide to pay him an unexpected visit that will end with secrets being revealed. Chaos ensues.

Summary
Ponyboy tiredly fell back onto his bed, the springs protesting under his weight, and pressed his nose into the pillow as he rolled over. He glanced towards his backpack where an orange bottle and a letter from six years ago he had read a thousands times over were hidden away in several pairs of socks. His eyes drooped tiredly and he knew he wouldn't need them tonight. He had refused to let himself sleep on the airplane, wanting to make sure he was as exhausted as possible, and sleep was already trying to pull him down.
He hoped that the exhaustion would keep the nightmares of railroads tracks and hospitals and burning churches away for the night.
or
It's been six years and Ponyboy doesn't want to remember. It's hard trying to stay gold.

Summary
After the slap, Darry stops Ponyboy from running away.
But just because he wasn't at the fountain that night doesn't mean the Socs are going to let him off the hook (and, boy, in some ways, he's going to wish he made it to that fountain by the time they're done with him).

Summary
I sat at my desk, staring at the blank page. For a second, I almost wrote two words: The End. That would’ve been it.
My hand shook. I couldn’t bring myself to finish it.
That’s when the idea formed, sharp and clear: I’d give myself twelve days.
I wrote the words at the top of the page: 12 Days.
Beneath it, I drew twelve bullet points, each one waiting for a plan. On each day, I’d do something worth remembering. Something I could hold in my hands before I let go. I’d write down what I did as time went on.
Maybe it was selfish. Maybe it wasn’t. I couldn’t decide. But I liked the idea of leaving something behind. I’d leave memories that weren’t sudden and sharp, but slow and soft, something they could hold onto without wondering if they’d missed their chance.
After all, maybe after 12 days I’d change my mind.
OR:
Ponyboy’s world has been turned upside down. In the wake of loss, he gives himself twelve days to find something worth holding onto— before letting go.
