Summary
The accusation the Truth had levelled at him had stung, but it had been — well, true. He’d trusted, blindly, in men who’d only been trustworthy according to some bullshit metric cryptically communicated to him by an old man with his own agenda. He’d trusted his contingencies and his double-blinds, his schemes and his whisper network. And what did all that get him? He’d completely lost the capacity to care for those who had entrusted themselves to him, much less the whole country he’d been proud enough to envision under his wing.
Can he really become worthy of their faith again? Does he have any capacity to care and to protect, now that the illusions have all been stripped away?
“I’ll be back in the morning, sir,” says the one person whose answer he already knows.Or: in the ten days after Roy leaves the hospital, he learns how to cook an egg blind, loses his comfortable pants, prepares for his reinstatement evaluations, dreams of Maes Hughes dying, ponders the domestic applications of flame alchemy, second-guesses everything he ever believed about his role in his country's future, and moves in with his lieutenant.

Trapped beyond death in a hell of someone else's making, Ortus discovers that "stop flirting with my wife" has multiple semantic valences. Some of which, when followed to their logical conclusion, turn out to be worthwhile exegetical opportunities.

A chase, a getaway, a crash. Pidge's day couldn't get much worse, especially since she's enduring all of this with the biggest distraction in her life, who also happens to be a really annoying mission partner. But when Allura gets hurt, the life-or-death struggle becomes a little more urgent, a little more personal, and Pidge finds herself admitting to things she hasn't quite figured out for herself, yet.

Summary
She regrets the kiss much longer than a week.
This may be because Jeff clearly thinks it means something different than she intended, and it may be because, Troy's triumphant return notwithstanding, she really is moving on with her life and Jeff's inconvenient feelings are kind of harshing her vibe. But a Jeff Winger who's honest about what he wants is a remarkably seductive thing, and Annie's spin-off show may need a romantic lead after all. -

Summary
London is lonely, with all her bridges burned, but Jude’s writing more and better music than she ever has, and it feels like a perfectly legitimate trade-off. Only, when circumstances conspire to add a newly-divorced guitarist to her tour band, Jude begins to consider if, maybe, the music isn’t something she actually wants – or needs – to do alone.

Summary
It’s been four years, almost, since the last time Shiro flew anything, or held a weapon, or even spoke to his former teammates, and he’s still trying to figure out who he is if he’s not someone’s fearless leader. But when Kolivan calls to tell him Keith’s gone missing, all Shiro’s fragile peace falls away. Soon enough, he’s back in a cockpit with a ragtag team around him, feeling the weight of the universe settling back onto his shoulders. And he’s not sure how long he can hold up under it, without Keith there to catch him.

Summary
Shiro could get himself un-lost on his own, but there's a comforting familiarity to Keith's teasing about rescues past and present - and, after so many decades of adventures, there are few places he'd rather be than tramping down his favourite mountain with his best friend. Even if that best friend is still carrying a torch that Shiro wishes he'd finally let go of.

Summary
For a decade and a half, Kakashi has been able to rely on the perfect recall of Obito’s promotion present, but now, with another promotion looming and Obito and his present both gone for good, the recall, too, is going. At first, it’s just a jutsu, but then he begins to lose people, his traitorous brain killing the memories of everyone he’s ever loved. All too soon, Kakashi must grapple with the greatest loss of all: himself.
(But he’s not the only one with memories. And the people who love him aren’t ready to give him up without a fight.)

Summary
The Mithraeum is full of ghosts, and Gideon can't do anything about the fact that she's one of them. Five-plus-one moments of loneliness and fear, set sometime in the first half-ish of Harrow the Ninth.
(You can also, somehow, imagine him growling imprecations – which is probably a sign that you’ve lost it; Ortus never growled a day in his short, unimaginative life – at the idea that you weren’t capable of loving him. In your mind’s eye, his paint is sloppy and beaded with sweat, and he says, “One death, one end. You said it, too. Did you not know what it meant?”)

Summary
“Kakashi,” he sticks out his hands to take the cake from the other man’s arms by way of introduction. “Sasuke’s foster figure, to use this month’s approved phrasing. For what it’s worth, we’re working on the whole lashing-out-when-uncomfortable thing.”
He’s met with a smile that’s…a little dazzling, if he’s honest. Woah. Okay. “Iruka,” the man says, letting Kakashi take the cake. Their fingers brush. Iruka’s hands are warm.

Summary
“I need you to marry me,” Harrow says, a propos of absolutely nothing that Gideon can see. And, uh, okay, this is not what childhood best frenemies say to each other upon discovering that both of their graduate programs have weird residence requirements.
“What,” Gideon asks, “the fuck?” -

Summary
Sometimes, when you don't believe you deserve the good thing that’s coming for you, you spend a lot of time trying to jump out of the way. Kakashi and Iruka are shinobi. Evasion is almost second nature.
(It begins with a long weekend onsen meet-cute, and then, as is only right for two people who love romance novels as much as they do, it takes ten years for them to figure out that they're in one.)

Summary
“Iruka fell asleep in my bed,” Naruto complains. “But I wasn’t tired.”
“Oh?” Kakashi asks. This wouldn’t be the first time that Iruka has gone in for a bedtime story and come stumbling out an hour or two later, rubbing sleep from his eyes. Kakashi doesn’t know how he manages it; Naruto is not a peaceful sleeper by any stretch of the imagination.
“The poor guy was really tuckered out,” Naruto says, a perfect imitation of Iruka, and Kakashi doesn’t bother hiding his smile. He’d probably mind Naruto having a favourite parent more if Iruka wasn’t his favourite, too.
(or: Iruka's longer-than-usual work hours are making him exhausted and cranky, so Naruto and Kakashi assign themselves the important mission of getting him to take some time off. Predictably, it goes a little sideways.)

Summary
In a way, they’ve been sleeping together since BJ arrived in Korea, only now it’s hard to really differentiate “my tentmate sometimes holds me when I have nightmares” from “co-sleeping with my partner almost makes this entire goddamn war worth it.” Especially since Peg seems to think that the answer to the Problem of Hawkeye is to sleep together in a more metaphorical sense.

Summary
I gestured with my free hand. “Sarkan. The coat, off.”
“The coat, only?” he asked, and his voice held a promise of something I had not known it could. The last time, the first time we had come together, he had let me set every part of the pace, but here we were on more even footing. Here, in my house, he was in my power, and he would challenge me at every step. The anticipation of it had my toes curling into the soft moss.
“To begin with,” I said. “Shall I help?”

“Morochka,” she says to him one night, lying piled up in snowdrift blankets while he stares into the fir bough fire, “How many girls have you loved, since the beginning of time?”
(of the two of them, it was always going to be Vasya who took matters into her own two hands, and Morozko, for all his many ages in the world, is almost entirely oblivious)

Summary
“You know, you talk a lot of shit for someone with such soft, kissable lips.”
Kakashi, to his credit, looks as surprised as Iruka feels, although Iruka’s inner monologue points out with no small amount of acidity that Kakashi is the one swearing in the mission room (talking about kissing, in the mission room!) while Iruka is the one who has been interrupted in the midst of delivering a long-overdue, well-deserved chewing out. Only one of them is really justified in being surprised.(rated for some swears and mentions of, like, the indisputable in-universe fact that we're up here killing children)
