Her hair is blunt from weeks under the burning sun, but he likes the way it falls over her shoulder all the same when she leans closer towards his face. He’s delirious, feels the drool of radiated saliva drip from his mouth. Everything inside him wants to eat her, to tear her to pieces, to dig into her stomach and make a home inside her chest cavity. He wants to kiss her like a dying man, wants to be so deep inside her that there’s no room for anything else, swallow any noise she would make.

A beat passes, as the thoughts run through her head. A low scoff as his hazel eyes sweep over her.
“Trust me, sweetheart.” He rasps, “‘ve got no interest in what’s beneath that suit of yours. Can’t say the same ‘bout the alternative.”(Or - Lucy’s insistence on stopping at the town leads to some close quarters and some finally acted-upon feelings)

Not for the lack of other options, no, it was a deep specificity tangled with that very sweetness that she wasn’t going to think about right now.

She’s not sure what he’s referring to, but she listens. Walks back to the camp without so much as another word between them. Not even a glance. She doesn’t look again until she’s sitting on her bedroll and the Ghoul is just a shadow in the distance.
She doesn’t want him to disappear with the light.

Cooper watches Lucy most of the night. Can’t help himself. He never thought they’d have nights like this again. Never anticipated she’d actually forgive him. Then again, she hasn’t outright forgiven him just yet, but he gets the sense she’s not angry anymore. For whatever godforsaken reason. He doesn’t deserve her kindness. Her empathy.
He almost forgets about the goddamn tin soldier until he wakes up. Cooper quickly sits back, crossing his legs at his ankles and covering his face with his hat.

AKA, after a few weeks apart, cooper and dogmeat cross paths with lucy and maximus which turns into all of them traveling together seeing as they seem to temporarily be going in the same direction...which then turns into cooper and lucy having to confront feelings they never imagined they'd have

Lucy followed the Ghoul out of that shell-struck old observatory and through the ruins of things lost so many times over by this point it was a miracle anyone was around who could still put a name to them. Idly, she figured, he might be the only one left around here who could.
So maybe that was why she had thrown her lot in with his without much thought about it. Or maybe it was because she figured he, at least, would be upfront with her if he ever decided to throw her to the wolves. Or maybe, for the briefest of seconds, she had looked at him and thought, wildly, impossibly, that they might be on the same page. Or in the same boat, rather, one without any oars, and which was pitching dangerously.
Or maybe it was something else. Something lesser known. Something like fate, like a little whisper spoken so quietly she didn’t even know she had heard it. But she was listening, now, and the best thing she could do, she figured, was see this through to the end.
The Ghoul walked ahead, having similar internal dilemmas unbeknownst, albeit with significantly more swearing.
