"There's no need to negotiate for your safety, Doctor Grace," Stratt says sternly. "I can assure you, after saving the world, you will be looked after."
"Um, no," he says, shaking his head. "I'm not negotiating for my safety." He steps aside. “I’m negotiating for theirs.”
They walk into the light of the open doorway; Simon, squinting hard against the vivid sun with his hand raised to shield his eyes and Rocky, who chirps a casual "Hello, humans!" with a wave.
There’s a gasp; someone takes a step backward; one of the military personnel raises their rifle slightly.
Grace doesn’t have eyes for them - he only looks at Stratt.
And he decides, then and there, to replace the image of Stratt’s face sending him to his death, full of remorse and sadness, with the one in front of him: utter, complete disbelief.
Grace thinks he'll treasure it forever.or: rocky, grace and simon go to earth instead of erid

Prism sucks her teeth, eyes rolling behind her visor. “Like you don’t talk mad shit with us,” she says, hand coming up to wipe off the blood on her face. “We’re here ‘cause someone doesn’t know how to be a normal human being.”
“Fuck off, Princess Bubblegum,” Invisigal snaps. “It was a joke. If this fucking meeting wasn’t about ‘sexual harassment’,” she rolls her eyes and makes finger quotes, “it’d be about us being too loud on the radio, or us not being a picture-fucking-perfect hero squad, or us fucking up something on a call.”
Flambae hisses out another burst of sparks. “Don’t roll your fucking eyes,” he says, lip curled into a sneer, “you know full well that was a creepy fucking line, Invisibitch.”
OR: Invisgal makes another comment. Robert hits his limit, and so does the Z-Team.

A random villain-of-the-week makes Robert late for work. It's only by a few minutes, yet the encounter that hardly lasted a few seconds instills a sudden chill in Robert's bones. Its persistence is matched only by the Z-Team's stubbornness as they force their dispatcher to join them in activities they think will warm him up.
But none of it matters if Robert can't learn to believe he'll ever be warm again... or that he deserves the warmth this team brings him.

He stared up at them with wide blown-out eyes, flicking between all the adults in front of him.
“Robert? Are you-“
“Who the fuck are you?”
Uh oh.
After Visi accidentally drops a villain's weapon, Robert is transformed back into his ten year old self, both physically and mentally, remembering nothing of his future self. The Z-Team and co. must now deal with a half-feral and deeply traumatised child while they figure out how to get their beloved dispatcher back, and also learning a lot about why he is the way he is.

Summary

The humans threw Grace away. Grace, who worked so hard to save them, who came back for Rocky when he realized the taomoeba would eat through Rocky's ship. Grace, who gave up his chance to go home to save Erid too.
And then Rocky finds out exactly how Grace ended up in space.
They're not giving him back now. Grace will always have a place on Erid where he's beloved and cherished the way he should be, even if it takes Grace a while to believe he's worth that. Rocky may or may not have plans to fix up the Hail Mary for the trip back anyways- there were a few things they wanted to say directly to Stratt's face.

If they didn’t start harassing him, the Blonde Boss Lady would have benched them thinking they were being mind controlled.
Every handler thought they could “handle” the Phoenix team. Tame them, make them palatable, water them down. Turn them good. So they didn’t like Robert.
But they did like his voice.

No more coffees brought to her right as she starts to lag in the afternoon, no more bags of obnoxiously-colored candies hidden away in her pocket to slip to him, lest the vultures in the engineering department claim them all. No more staring at reports while he spins his chair around and talks about nothing, his voice soothing white noise to her after three years of hearing it practically nonstop. No more beers shared after a long day’s work, a brief respite before beginning another grueling day the next morning. It is all past tense now.
