In his PTSD-scorched psyche, no moral dilemmas arose. The order had never been canceled. Laura was a tool, an accomplice to the terrorist attack. A viable target. A witness. Trash that needed to be cleaned up. According to protocol, he should have crushed her trachea ten minutes ago and burned the room.
And he would eliminate her. Without question.
But not yet. She could die anytime. While she was still alive, while her pulse hammered in hysteria and her body was paralyzed by his presence, he would test on her this new, malfunctioning reflex in his system. To him, it was like field-stripping a new weapon.

“Can I help you with something?” Vivian asks without looking up from her mail.“No,” Peter says with a shake of his head and narrowing eyes. “Not at all. Just wondering how you’re moving around like that, is all.” He stares at her bruises.
She slams her mailbox closed and turns to face him. “You know,” she says, “you seem awfully concerned with how I’m doing. Maybe you should talk to a therapist. Work out that hero complex.”
His jaw clenches so hard she hears it. “Oh wow… You’re sorta amazing, you know that?” He takes a small step away from the stairwell towards her. “I’ve never meet anyone who,” he pauses before briefly looking around the lobby. “Who could just,” he holds up his hand as he speaks and mimics an explosion. “Blow up any interaction that fast. And that’s really saying something because if you could see the people I know? I mean, wow…”
