Zuko cocks his head, staring right back at his stupid handsome face. “You want to have sex with me?”
There is an infuriating shrug that happens, Sokka’s shoulder rolling as his features ease back into a humored smile. “Sure.”
Zuko’s eyes narrow. “Don’t hold back your enthusiasm. I’m not up for being pity fucked.” He ignores the hungry pang of want at even the thought of it in favour of getting his grip back on the door to start to shut it in Sokka’s face.
Except a hand slaps against it to stop it from closing, and suddenly Sokka is directly in his space staring right back at him. “Listen. If it is a clear no, that’s fine and I will see myself out. But for the record I always thought you were cute, in a ‘my sister’s roommate is unfairly hot and also untouchable’ kind of way.” Sokka’s head tilts, and there is the split second of danger flitting across his mouth as a half smile reveals the point of a canine. “Pity fucking is not what I’m after, but I am more than happy to help you break your bed.”
Or: Zuko has a trainwreck of a date, but ends up with someone far better.

Sokka took a small, steady breath, looking him dead in the eye. "Whatever this bond is, whatever this marriage becomes, I want us to be as honest as possible with each other. No political theater between us. Just real."
The unexpected sincerity hit Zuko right in the center of his chest, the lingering image of her hand resting against Sokka’s fur collar in the quiet corridor refused to leave his mind. They had looked so comfortable together, Zuko wasn't foolish, he knew what that kind of closeness usually meant. He assumed they were more than friends. Far more.
He probably wants her, Zuko thought, a sharp, familiar knot tightening in his stomach, probably loves her.
"I'd like that," Zuko said quietly, his voice rough but firm. If only you could give it to me.
