Shouta's gaze moved to his hand, where a tiny, chubbier one wrapped around his index finger.
He looked at the kid whose eyes are puffy, red, and shiny like he's been crying and giant green irises stared at Shouta’s hand with a level of focus that only a child can have. He turned his gaze to the mother intending to get her attention but the notion died as he scanned the woman, distracted with a not-so-good looking phone call if the worried frown pinching her face and her fingers wringing in the front of her cardigan is any indication.
He sighed and let the kid play with his fingers, cooperating by turning his hand over when it was gently tugged, and watched the toddler count the lines on his palm in tiny murmurs and intense concentration, poking each one as he went, tired little sniffles every few seconds filling the silence. Looks like Shouta isn’t the only one who had a shitty day.

Aizawa Shouta, a new prohero, planned on getting some sleep on the train after a long exhausting day, like he always does, before heading back to the police station, but his plans get left at the train stop when a young mother and her toddler board his train.

Something moved.
Eijirou's eyes snapped back to the far right corner of the rock, watching as something moved on it.
The melody got louder as the thing writhed, and Eijirou's body moved without his permission, bringing him closer to the thing until he was only a few metres away.
His eyes went wide at what he saw, the singing rising in volume and desperation as the thing wriggled on the rock.
It was...
A fish.
But it was more than that.
It was part fish… and part boy.
Eijirou, the Prince of Kansai meets Izuku, a siren trapped beneath a net on a tiny island in the middle of the sea. Both of them are lonely, and desperately want to go home. One of them pays the other a good deed, and the other takes it upon themselves to help the other should they ever cross paths again.
Let it be known that Fate never leaves a story half-told. This is only the beginning, after all.
Or: a very self-indulgent MerMay fic about everyone's favourite Strong Sunshine Boys from 1-A!

“Okay. What's the last thing you remember?”
Izuku looks down at his lap, his small fingers tracing over a bruise on his stomach. “Papa was angry cause I was too loud. So I cried and took a nap and now I'm awake here... Did Papa take me here?”
Shota exhales and decides that the truth might be too confusing for now. “Well, I'm going to take care of you until you feel better, okay? You're going to be staying with me for now. Your dad's gone. He won't hurt you anymore.”
Izuku looks up, eyes full of hope that dares not be called hope, something so shaky and hesitant but desperate nonetheless. “Really?”
And for once, Shota gives his student a smile. “I promise. Cross my heart.”
