Summary
“I would make you a queen, stronger than the foundations of the earth,” his words haunted her day and night for almost a year of this age. Given a secret mission that sends her into the heart of Sauron’s new kingdom, Galadriel must uncover what has been lost to the darkness, without succumbing to it herself.

“Before I pull you into my lap and ride you into my lands,” he cocked an eyebrow in twisted delight as she trembled a moment at his phrasing, “you must give me your word I am not to be deceived.”
“What do you fear I am doing?” Galadriel furrowed her brows in perfect confusion.
“You come to me seeking all I have offered you before, a place at my side, and I have had a lifetime of distraction to forget your rejection a year ago. What makes you certain I will be so willing to repeat my offer?”
Galadriel smiled softly, “Because you would never forget something you wanted that was denied you. It is not your way, Lord Sauron.”
His answering grin bared all his teeth. “Perhaps you do know me well enough, my lady,” he rumbled a laugh as he reached out his gauntleted hand towards her.

Summary
Sauron may have left Eregion but he did not leave Galadriel’s dreams.
…He looks at her as if she is a lost dream long mourned. He looks at her as if she is the vision of his desires incarnate. He looks hungry, reverent, admiring.
Her heart shifts, and her mouth opens slightly. Not to speak but to let more air in, her lungs feel so tight.
“You shouldn’t be here,” he says and then his lips are on hers.
He is but a dream, she thinks. This is not real. And she lets him kiss her…
