"Mom went through a phase where she was really into astrology," Bella's voice is soft and melodic. She stands next to Charlie, their shoulders nearly touching. He can feel the coldness that seems to radiate off of all of the Cullens.
Charlie huffs out a laugh. "Yeah?" Renee had always been into that kind of spiritual stuff.
"Uh huh. She talked about it all the time when I was in middle school. I didn't really care about it, but I thought parts of it were cool. I liked learning about the different phases of the moon, and what each one meant."
Charlie hums. He nods to the moon. "What does this phase mean?"
"Waning crescent," Bella says. "A time for rest and relaxation."
Charlie snorts, his heart feeling a little lighter at Bella's answering grin. "Yeah. After the last few years, I think that's exactly what this damn town needs."

Summary
Charlie doesn't like change, it brings about all sort of trouble. Of course, he proves himself right when a spontaneous drive out to a bar hours away from home leads him to meeting an alluring stranger who ends up saving his life. They share a night together, and he thinks that's all it'll be, but a week later sees the same man moving in to Forks. With a family.
Carlisle hasn't had a taste of human blood in centuries. But when a handsome cop nearly dies fighting a rabid werewolf, he inadvertedly learns that the cop's blood is almost impossible to resist. He's never had trouble controlling himself up until now, but now that he's got a taste of something so sweet he's not going to let it go.

I laugh lightly. His voice is still off, but at least he’s respecting my wish to lighten the mood by making jokes.
“Blobs need to be flexible, don’t they?”
“Yes. Endoskeleton very fascinating.”
“For sure. Also, at the end of my spine, I have a tailbone. It’s a vestigial feature, meaning it’s something human ancestors once needed but modern humans have absolutely no use for.”
I hear him shift again, then he makes a note that I’ve come to realize is an Eridian’s version of ‘ugh’.
“Not fascinating. Inefficient.”

Grace grows severely emaciated towards the end of the journey to Erid. He uses this as an opportunity to teach a worried Rocky about the structure of his bones in a poor attempt to distract Rocky from the severity of his malnourishment.

All life on Earth evolved, in the beginning, from aquatic life forms. To many, the call to return to the ocean is instinctual, a feeling deep in their bones that goes far beyond any rational reasoning. To float amongst the waves, to kick and splash until it feels as though you were always part of the water, is to be entirely free.
