The gun trembled in his brother’s hand as they kept staring at each other, the words almost as pleading as Ilya’s own. If his eyes hadn’t started to sting, he might have seen his brother’s well up as well. Instead, that childish, naive little part of his heart spoke the next words out of his mouth.
"We are family Alexei. We always have been."

Summary
Jaskier is captured by Nilfgaard and tortured for information about Geralt an Ciri, the twist though, is that Ciri has been arrested for stealing and is in the cell next to his. Nilfgaard is none the wiser and Jaskier has to make sure that his mouth remains shut during the interrogations. Will he succed or will he break?

Summary
Taylor broke up with him a month ago and he hadn’t told anyone, not because it was a secret, but because he hadn’t gotten the chance to talk to them. It reminded him so strongly of the time after the bombing that he wanted to cry. How easily forgettable he was.
Apparently punchable, as well. He’d been punched before; it came with the job as a bartender or when he tried out for Navy SEALS. Even his dad had gotten in a few good ones when he disobeyed to get their attention. None of the people who punched him mattered. Not like Chimney did. His brother, someone he loved.
But maybe Buck’s love just wasn’t enough. Not to stop people from leaving or from wanting him gone.OR: Buck is badly hurt when the flor of a building caves in. Eddie talks to him through dispatch and Chim finally apologies.

Summary
When Eddie told Buck that he would become Chris’s legal guardian if something happened to him, they’d both assumed that it was just as a precaution.
Eddie is called in to a short military mission, Buck steps into his role as Chris's guardian. It was only supposed to be two weeks and Eddie's assignment was only to identify a person on sight. It shouldn't have been dangerous. Eddie should have been okay.
So why did a uniformed officer show up with a box and a flag on Eddie's doorstep?

“Watch it Buckley!” Buck sighed and tried not to react to the shove when he closed his locker and followed Smith and Anderson out of the room, trying not to let the emptiness grow inside of him. It was hard though, standing alone against the darkness in his chest. It had always been there, ever since childhood. Having uncaring parents will do that to you. But ever since the ladder truck, the tsunami and then, the lawsuit, it had grown so much stronger. Threatening to swallow him whole. The bomb would have been enough but then he had to lose Chris, and even though Eddie tried to tell him that it wasn’t his fault, he still lost him. He lost his family, and he lost his job. And what did he do to make things better? He sued the city and Bobby. He’d been desperate for sure, but in hindsight it would have been better to just lose his job instead of losing everything.
Summary: Post- lawsuit, Buck get's hurt by two new team members.

Summary
His mom fills him in, standing with hunched shoulders in a cramped, too-bright hallway at The Ottawa Hospital. An illegal check into the boards; they were worried about a head injury, because Ilya wasn’t moving and he’s usually so, so hard to take down like that. But then his heart stopped, and they had to CPR right there on the ice to bring it back. To bring him back.
Shane buckles, crouching against the wall with his head in his hands. His mom’s voice is fuzzy above him, her hair tickling his shoulder when she leans down to comfort him. Ilya’s heart fucking stopped. On the ice, in the middle of a game, he died.
Or: Ilya goes into a coma after an accident on the ice. Shane figures out how to build him a life worth waking up for.

"Why," The officer repeats, leaning forward, "Were you at his apartment? You have to admit, it's pretty strange to—"
"We're together." Shane interrupts, tone flat. It doesn't make his stomach churn to say it out loud. It doesn't make him want to shrink into the uncomfortable plastic chair he's sitting in. "We had a three-day stretch with no games, so I was staying with him."
The officer bristles. He has a nametag, but Shane has no interest in reading it. He seems, overall, unconvinced. Shane supposes if he was a cop who was clearly awful at his job and stuck on the night shift, he'd probably be just as miserable.
"Okay," He sighs, "Let's start again. Tell us what happened, from the beginning."

Ilya knows that he’s throwing Shane for a loop, because in time gone by this was the prime opportunity for Ilya to flip them, pin Shane to the wall with one hand tightly gripping Shane’s wrists, and shut him up firmly. But all he can do now is stare at Shane and think I miss you, I’ve missed you, I will keep missing you. It’s like his eyes and his mind are having two different conversations. His eyes see Shane, and fuck, it’s good – but his mind sees tomorrow, and the next day, and the next, and finds them all lacking.
Ilya isn’t doing so well during his first few months in Ottawa. He tries not to make a thing of it.
