“I have something for you," Essi says, "a letter.”
“A letter?” Sam asks, confused, as he puts the last pastry in her box.
“From Jaskier.”
The pastry drops from his wooden tongs. He eyes the letter in her hand and slowly, willing his hand not to shake, reaches out for it. His hand shakes, because of course it does, he’s always fallen with the intensity of a twelve-year-old with their first crush and this is no exception. He takes the letter, staring at it as if it might reveal its secrets while he sets two more pastries in the box.
“I didn’t order those,” Essi says, sounding amused.
“On the house,” Sam says, absently.
Sam and Jaskier fall in love at first sight, but with Jaskier leaving Oxenfurt to follow the White Wolf their relationship takes far, far longer to develop. But that's alright with Sam— he'll be right here when Jaskier is ready to come home.

Summary
Someone is knocking on the large, wooden double doors that serve as the entrance to Kaer Morhen. In the middle of winter. In the middle of a blizzard.
The witchers move almost as one, grabbing their weapons. They make their way to the door, Geralt stepping up and preparing to open it as the others fall into formation behind him, ready for a fight. Geralt opens the door.
On the other side, Geralt sees… well, Geralt thinks he sees Jaskier, though he looks different, very different. Smells different, even.
“Jaskier?” Geralt asks, startled.
Jaskier smiles widely at him. Terrifyingly, there is blood in his teeth.
“I brought you a present,” Jaskier says, nonsensically.
For years, Jaskier has been silently telling Geralt he loves him. Only, certain secrets have always prevented Geralt from understanding. But now those secrets are out, and there are two cats loose in Kaer Morhen.

Meanwhile, Geralt is in denial, Jaskier is absolutely fine, thanks, and the internet is having a bit of a breakdown.

Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)

Summary
When the firefighter walks into Eddie's coffeeshop, Eddie immediately knows two things about him: he's not human, and he's the love of Eddie's life.
Oh, he knows a bunch of other things too, obviously. He's about thirty, a few months younger than Eddie himself. He has a scar on his throat, like he got stabbed there, and one of his legs has some metal rods in it that must have come from a bad injury. The guy doesn't know he's not human, which is a tricky thing to figure out, but Eddie's almost positive. Most of the non-humans he knows have always known they aren't people, but there are exceptions, and they tend to carry themselves differently. Ana before her first full moon as a werewolf had a very different vibe from Ana after.
The firefighter moves like he knows he doesn't belong, but not like he knows why. Like he's afraid of taking up space, afraid of being noticed.
As if Eddie is even capable of not noticing him.
