“Cait,” Vi says quietly. Caitlyn opens her eyes slowly. One side of Vi’s mouth is turned up. “We're not gonna fuck anyone else.”

Words crowded her mouth, frantic and half-formed, but none of them made it past her lips. They pressed against her windpipe like hands. It felt like trying to speak underwater. With lungs full of stone. Vi didn’t speak. Her gaze was unbearable.
“I just… I wanted to see you.” The sentence dragged itself from her throat. “Maybe I shouldn’t have come.”

The dragon lowers her head, steel eyes narrowed. But… not threatening. Caitlyn can hardly breathe at the sight of them again.
“It’s you,” Caitlyn hears herself whisper as she crouches in the tall grass. The dragon chuffs, nostrils flaring with a low rumbling sound. She can see the way the muscles tense even from here a whole clearing away.
They sit there, unmoving with a sea of wild grass between them until the sound of another pair of wings whooshing high above startles them both. Caitlyn doesn’t move, heart thrumming as she waits for the moment to turn, for the dragon to remember herself and end Caitlyn once and for all. Or for her companion to land and finish the job. But instead, red wings take to the skies again, the clouds swallowing her whole.

Silence stretched between them. Caitlyn shifted her weight from one skate to the other.
“You said ten minutes.”
Vi glanced at the clock. “We’re at eight.” She hesitated. “And you’re… impressive.”
Caitlyn blinked, surprised. “Oh," she said. "Well, I suppose are you too.”
Vi frowned. “I'm just doing my job.”
Caitlyn smiled faintly, pushing off the boards. “Most people don’t do it like you.”

Vi shrugs. “Can you blame me?”
Caitlyn presses her hands to her face to muffle a frustrated noise. “I quit the force, Vi. I have nothing to give them. I was tossed in there just like you did, but I owe them nothing.” She pauses and swallows thickly. “You’re really willing to risk your life because of a twenty year old gripe?”
Ire rises hot in Vi’s stomach. “A gripe? I lost my sister for twenty years, because of you, Caitlyn!”
Or: It's been twenty five years since a strange outbreak took over Piltover and Zaun, making many people sick. Feral. Vi is back in the city after getting a note from the sister she believed dead, and has the misfortune to fall on the lap of the person she hated the most.
