The wedding.
He doesn’t need to say this part for Phainon to know. It’s eerie how well they already seem to know each other, and it’s only been less than a day.
Nonetheless, the question gives Phainon pause. It’s the first time Mydei has seen him falter in his composure, even in his more relaxed state. Phainon’s bright, bright eyes dim for a second and no longer, before he says, “Because it is my duty.”
His duty.
Mydei huffs, leaning back against the cold quartz wall of the gazebo. His eyes settle on the sickled moon, the stars glinting faintly around her.
“That’s the most relatable thing you’ve said to me all day,” Mydei says, and allows himself to delight in the soft laugh he receives in response.
It is time for Prince Mydei of Castrum Kremnos to be wed, and for him to provide his kingdom with a new heir. Good thing there's a convenient dragon willing to help him!

Years (decades? centuries? he stopped caring) pass, and his only connections to the surface are reduced to the constant whispers of the souls crossing his domain and young heroes seeking the souls of their beloveds in acts of bravery.
However, the calm of his self-imposed exile is disrupted when the newly appointed god of war decides to publicly challenge Death itself to a duel. Phainon, completely uninterested in a meaningless fight, ends up going to Okhema merely to speak with Aglaea.

Only then does Mydei fully turn to his side to face him, eyeing the way the dim light seems to catch the silver of Phainon’s hair. He reaches over without thinking. “Like this,” he mutters, thumb pressing against Phainon’s bottom lip to force the correct shape. “Your tongue here,” his touch lingers. “And don’t enunciate the last syllable too much.”
Or, when Phainon asked Mydei to teach him the Kremnoan language, he expected refusal. Much to his surprise, Mydei agrees. But as the words come easier, so does everything else Phainon was never supposed to understand.

It's immature. It's satisfying.
When Phainon kicks him in the stomach to knock him back, he returns the favor. As the other man’s feet readjust to the floor, he spins his sword and hits squarely towards his face with the hilt. The prince's groan is music to his ears. Phainon watches as Mydeimos touches his nose, his hand staining crimson.
Yet, his eyes gradually widen when, instead of cursing, a grin spreads across Mydeimos’ face. Phainon follows those bloody fingers reaching to tempting lips, showing a tongue that tastes them until they are clean.
Fuck. If that’s not the most erotic thing Phainon has witnessed.
“Not bad…” Mydeimos mutters, “... Deliverer.”
In which Phainon sails to confront the captain of The Ruler, Mydeimos the undying, to find out about Nikador's treasure whereabouts. What he gains from their encounters ends up being better than any penny.
