Luis blinks once, twice. "Are you, are you busy?"
Max blinks. "I mean, I guess I am technically not." He frowns. "Why?"
"Uh," Luis rubs the back of his head. Maybe it's Max's imagination, but he looks nervous. "Would you want to join Red and I on an outing?"
"An outing?" Hazel blinks. "You sure have interesting words for a date."
Luis flushes red. "Its not a date! It's an outing among friends."
"Back on the isle, we just call that a date."
Luis blinks. "Do you not have friends on the isle?"
"No," Hazel responds deadpan. "You have those that are above you, and those that are below you."
"That doesn't make sense; you most likely,"
"Ignore her." Max turns, glaring at Hazel, who just smiles. "She's kidding. Probably. Anyway," Max tries to calm his beating heart. "Yes, I would like to join you." -

Summary
There are those that want him enough to hunt him, till their hands close around his neck, pressing bruises to his necks, a collar around his neck, till he can't breathe.
There are those, or just the one more like it, that loves him enough to set him loose. But he's been captured in his gilded cage for so long, he doesn't think he knows how to be free.
And there are those that care about him, the way you care about a weapon, constantly feeding him, the way you would treat your horse. Not with love, but with a rough sort of care.
Anything's better than London, though.

It's not like a bullet wound, that would heal, scab over, and return to unblemished skin in a matter of minutes. But a deep poison, deeper than flesh, deeper than grief, even deeper than guilt, but a burning desire.
His hands curl around him.
It hurts. It hurts so badly, James wants to rip his skin in two, digging his hands into flesh, to extract his blood, his poison. He looks like his father, and he hates how much he acts like him.
